2017-01-06ptrace: Don't allow accessing an undumpable mmEric W. Biederman
commit 84d77d3f06e7e8dea057d10e8ec77ad71f721be3 upstream. It is the reasonable expectation that if an executable file is not readable there will be no way for a user without special privileges to read the file. This is enforced in ptrace_attach but if ptrace is already attached before exec there is no enforcement for read-only executables. As the only way to read such an mm is through access_process_vm spin a variant called ptrace_access_vm that will fail if the target process is not being ptraced by the current process, or the current process did not have sufficient privileges when ptracing began to read the target processes mm. In the ptrace implementations replace access_process_vm by ptrace_access_vm. There remain several ptrace sites that still use access_process_vm as they are reading the target executables instructions (for kernel consumption) or register stacks. As such it does not appear necessary to add a permission check to those calls. This bug has always existed in Linux. 2016-10-19mm: replace access_process_vm() write parameter with gup_flagsLorenzo Stoakes
This removes the 'write' argument from access_process_vm() and replaces it with 'gup_flags' as use of this function previously silently implied FOLL_FORCE, whereas after this patch callers explicitly pass this flag. We make this explicit as use of FOLL_FORCE can result in surprising behaviour (and hence bugs) within the mm subsystem. 2016-08-04dma-mapping: use unsigned long for dma_attrsKrzysztof Kozlowski
The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value. Semantic patches for this change (at least most of them): virtual patch virtual context @r@ identifier f, attrs; @@ f(..., - struct dma_attrs *attrs + unsigned long attrs , ...) { ... } @@ identifier r.f; @@ f(..., - NULL + 0 ) and // Options: --all-includes virtual patch virtual context @r@ identifier f, attrs; type t; @@ t f(..., struct dma_attrs *attrs); @@ identifier r.f; @@ f(..., - NULL + 0 ) Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1468399300-5399-2-git-send-email-k.kozlowski@samsung.com Signed-off-by: Krzysztof Kozlowski <k.kozlowski@samsung.com> Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> Acked-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Noren Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no> Acked-by: Mark Salter <msalter@redhat.com> [c6x] Acked-by: Jesper Nilsson <jesper.nilsson@axis.com> [cris] Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> [drm] Reviewed-by: Bart Van Assche <bart.vanassche@sandisk.com> Acked-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de> [iommu] Acked-by: Fabien Dessenne <fabien.dessenne@st.com> [bdisp] Reviewed-by: Marek Szyprowski <m.szyprowski@samsung.com> [vb2-core] Acked-by: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com> [xen] Acked-by: Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk <konrad.wilk@oracle.com> [xen swiotlb] Acked-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de> [iommu] Acked-by: Richard Kuo <rkuo@codeaurora.org> [hexagon] Acked-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> [m68k] Acked-by: Gerald Schaefer <gerald.schaefer@de.ibm.com> [s390] Acked-by: Bjorn Andersson <bjorn.andersson@linaro.org> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Noren Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no> [avr32] Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> [arc] Acked-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com> [arm64 and dma-iommu] Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2016-02-16mm/gup: Switch all callers of get_user_pages() to not pass tsk/mmDave Hansen
We will soon modify the vanilla get_user_pages() so it can no longer be used on mm/tasks other than 'current/current->mm', which is by far the most common way it is called. For now, we allow the old-style calls, but warn when they are used. (implemented in previous patch) This patch switches all callers of: get_user_pages() get_user_pages_unlocked() get_user_pages_locked() to stop passing tsk/mm so they will no longer see the warnings. 2015-08-10cris/time: Migrate to new 'set-state' interfaceViresh Kumar
Migrate cris driver to the new 'set-state' interface provided by clockevents core, the earlier 'set-mode' interface is marked obsolete now. This also enables us to implement callbacks for new states of clockevent devices, for example: ONESHOT_STOPPED. 2015-06-16cris: don't use module_init for non-modular core intmem.c codePaul Gortmaker
The intmem.c code is always built in. It will never be modular, so using module_init as an alias for __initcall is rather misleading. Fix this up now, so that we can relocate module_init from init.h into module.h in the future. If we don't do this, we'd have to add module.h to obviously non-modular code, and that would be a worse thing. Direct use of __initcall is discouraged, vs prioritized ones. Use of device_initcall is consistent with what __initcall maps onto, and hence does not change the init order, making the impact of this change zero. Should someone with real hardware for boot testing want to change it later to arch_initcall or something different, they can do that at a later date.
