2017-04-14mn10300/cevt-mn10300: Set ->min_delta_ticks and ->max_delta_ticksNicolai Stange
In preparation for making the clockevents core NTP correction aware, all clockevent device drivers must set ->min_delta_ticks and ->max_delta_ticks rather than ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns: a clockevent device's rate is going to change dynamically and thus, the ratio of ns to ticks ceases to stay invariant. Make the mn10300 arch's clockevent driver initialize these fields properly. This patch alone doesn't introduce any change in functionality as the clockevents core still looks exclusively at the (untouched) ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns. As soon as this has changed, a followup patch will purge the initialization of ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns from this driver. 2017-03-24net: Introduce SO_INCOMING_NAPI_IDSridhar Samudrala
This socket option returns the NAPI ID associated with the queue on which the last frame is received. This information can be used by the apps to split the incoming flows among the threads based on the Rx queue on which they are received. If the NAPI ID actually represents a sender_cpu then the value is ignored and 0 is returned. 2017-03-09arch, mm: convert all architectures to use 5level-fixup.hKirill A. Shutemov
If an architecture uses 4level-fixup.h we don't need to do anything as it includes 5level-fixup.h. If an architecture uses pgtable-nop*d.h, define __ARCH_USE_5LEVEL_HACK before inclusion of the header. It makes asm-generic code to use 5level-fixup.h. If an architecture has 4-level paging or folds levels on its own, include 5level-fixup.h directly. Signed-off-by: Kirill A. 2017-02-27mm: add new mmgrab() helperVegard Nossum
Apart from adding the helper function itself, the rest of the kernel is converted mechanically using: git grep -l 'atomic_inc.*mm_count' | xargs sed -i 's/atomic_inc(&\(.*\)->mm_count);/mmgrab\(\1\);/' git grep -l 'atomic_inc.*mm_count' | xargs sed -i 's/atomic_inc(&\(.*\)\.mm_count);/mmgrab\(\&\1\);/' This is needed for a later patch that hooks into the helper, but might be a worthwhile cleanup on its own. 2017-02-27kprobes: move kprobe declarations to asm-generic/kprobes.hLuis R. Rodriguez
Often all is needed is these small helpers, instead of compiler.h or a full kprobes.h. This is important for asm helpers, in fact even some asm/kprobes.h make use of these helpers... instead just keep a generic asm file with helpers useful for asm code with the least amount of clutter as possible. Likewise we need now to also address what to do about this file for both when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES, and when they do not. Then for when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES but have disabled CONFIG_KPROBES. Right now most asm/kprobes.h do not have guards against CONFIG_KPROBES, this means most architecture code cannot include asm/kprobes.h safely. Correct this and add guards for architectures missing them. Additionally provide architectures that not have kprobes support with the default asm-generic solution. This lets us force asm/kprobes.h on the header include/linux/kprobes.h always, but most importantly we can now safely include just asm/kprobes.h on architecture code without bringing the full kitchen sink of header files. Two architectures already provided a guard against CONFIG_KPROBES on its kprobes.h: sh, arch. The rest of the architectures needed gaurds added. We avoid including any not-needed headers on asm/kprobes.h unless kprobes have been enabled. In a subsequent atomic change we can try now to remove compiler.h from include/linux/kprobes.h. During this sweep I've also identified a few architectures defining a common macro needed for both kprobes and ftrace, that of the definition of the breakput instruction up. Some refer to this as BREAKPOINT_INSTRUCTION. This must be kept outside of the #ifdef CONFIG_KPROBES guard. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/paulg/linux Pull exception table module split from Paul Gortmaker: "Final extable.h related changes. This completes the separation of exception table content from the module.h header file. This is achieved with the final commit that removes the one line back compatible change that sourced extable.h into the module.h file. The commits are unchanged since January, with the exception of a couple Acks that came in for the last two commits a bit later. The changes have been in linux-next for quite some time[1] and have got widespread arch coverage via toolchains I have and also from additional ones the kbuild bot has. Maintaners of the various arch were Cc'd during the postings to lkml[2] and informed that the intention was to take the remaining arch specific changes and lump them together with the final two non-arch specific changes and submit for this merge window. 2017-02-01sched/cputime: Remove generic asm headersFrederic Weisbecker
cputime_t is now only used by two architectures: * powerpc (when CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE=y) * s390 And since the core doesn't use it anymore, we don't need any arch support from the others. So we can remove their stub implementations. A final cleanup would be to provide an efficient pure arch implementation of cputime_to_nsec() for s390 and powerpc and finally remove include/linux/cputime.h . 2016-11-30tcp: SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS option for SO_TIMESTAMPINGFrancis Yan
This patch exports the sender chronograph stats via the socket SO_TIMESTAMPING channel. Currently we can instrument how long a particular application unit of data was queued in TCP by tracking SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_SOFTWARE and SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_SCHED. Having these sender chronograph stats exported simultaneously along with these timestamps allow further breaking down the various sender limitation. For example, a video server can tell if a particular chunk of video on a connection takes a long time to deliver because TCP was experiencing small receive window. It is not possible to tell before this patch without packet traces. To prepare these stats, the user needs to set SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS and SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_TSONLY flags while requesting other SOF_TIMESTAMPING TX timestamps. When the timestamps are available in the error queue, the stats are returned in a separate control message of type SCM_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS, in a list of TLVs (struct nlattr) of types: TCP_NLA_BUSY_TIME, TCP_NLA_RWND_LIMITED, TCP_NLA_SNDBUF_LIMITED. Unit is microsecond. 2016-11-16locking/core: Introduce cpu_relax_yield()Christian Borntraeger
For spinning loops people do often use barrier() or cpu_relax(). For most architectures cpu_relax and barrier are the same, but on some architectures cpu_relax can add some latency. For example on power,sparc64 and arc, cpu_relax can shift the CPU towards other hardware threads in an SMT environment. On s390 cpu_relax does even more, it uses an hypercall to the hypervisor to give up the timeslice. In contrast to the SMT yielding this can result in larger latencies. In some places this latency is unwanted, so another variant "cpu_relax_lowlatency" was introduced. Before this is used in more and more places, lets revert the logic and provide a cpu_relax_yield that can be called in places where yielding is more important than latency. By default this is the same as cpu_relax on all architectures. Writes to u16 has a special handling on 3 PXA platforms, where the hardware wiring forces these writes to be u32 aligned. This patch isolates this handling for PXA platforms as before, but enables this "workaround" to be set up dynamically, which will be the case in device-tree build types. 2016-10-07nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpusChris Metcalf
When doing an nmi backtrace of many cores, most of which are idle, the output is a little overwhelming and very uninformative. Suppress messages for cpus that are idling when they are interrupted and just emit one line, "NMI backtrace for N skipped: idling at pc 0xNNN". We do this by grouping all the cpuidle code together into a new .cpuidle.text section, and then checking the address of the interrupted PC to see if it lies within that section. This commit suitably tags x86 and tile idle routines, and only adds in the minimal framework for other architectures. 2016-08-04dma-mapping: use unsigned long for dma_attrsKrzysztof Kozlowski
The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value.
