2015-10-06word-at-a-time.h: fix some Kbuild filesChris Metcalf
arch/tile added word-at-a-time.h after the patch that added generic-y entries; the generic-y entry is now stale. arch/h8300 is newer than the generic-y patch for word-at-a-time.h, and needs a generic-y entry. arch/powerpc seems to have gotten a generic-y entry by mistake in the first patch; this change removes it. 2015-10-04Merge branch 'strscpy' of ↵Linus Torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile Pull strscpy string copy function implementation from Chris Metcalf. Chris sent this during the merge window, but I waffled back and forth on the pull request, which is why it's going in only now. The new "strscpy()" function is definitely easier to use and more secure than either strncpy() or strlcpy(), both of which are horrible nasty interfaces that have serious and irredeemable problems. strncpy() has a useless return value, and doesn't NUL-terminate an overlong result. To make matters worse, it pads a short result with zeroes, which is a performance disaster if you have big buffers. strlcpy(), by contrast, is a mis-designed "fix" for strlcpy(), lacking the insane NUL padding, but having a differently broken return value which returns the original length of the source string. Which means that it will read characters past the count from the source buffer, and you have to trust the source to be properly terminated. It also makes error handling fragile, since the test for overflow is unnecessarily subtle. strscpy() avoids both these problems, guaranteeing the NUL termination (but not excessive padding) if the destination size wasn't zero, and making the overflow condition very obvious by returning -E2BIG. It also doesn't read past the size of the source, and can thus be used for untrusted source data too. So why did I waffle about this for so long? Every time we introduce a new-and-improved interface, people start doing these interminable series of trivial conversion patches. And every time that happens, somebody does some silly mistake, and the conversion patch to the improved interface actually makes things worse. Because the patch is mindnumbing and trivial, nobody has the attention span to look at it carefully, and it's usually done over large swatches of source code which means that not every conversion gets tested. So I'm pulling the strscpy() support because it *is* a better interface. But I will refuse to pull mindless conversion patches. Use this in places where it makes sense, but don't do trivial patches to fix things that aren't actually known to be broken. * 'strscpy' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile: tile: use global strscpy() rather than private copy string: provide strscpy() Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architectures

2015-07-17mm: clean up per architecture MM hook header filesLaurent Dufour
Commit 2ae416b142b6 ("mm: new mm hook framework") introduced an empty header file (mm-arch-hooks.h) for every architecture, even those which doesn't need to define mm hooks. As suggested by Geert Uytterhoeven, this could be cleaned through the use of a generic header file included via each per architecture asm/include/Kbuild file. The PowerPC architecture is not impacted here since this architecture has to defined the arch_remap MM hook. 2015-07-08Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architecturesChris Metcalf
Added the x86 implementation of word-at-a-time to the generic version, which previously only supported big-endian. Omitted the x86-specific load_unaligned_zeropad(), which in any case is also not present for the existing BE-only implementation of a word-at-a-time, and is only used under CONFIG_DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS. Added as a "generic-y" to the Kbuilds of all architectures that didn't previously have it. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@ezchip.com>

2015-04-17tile: support arch_irq_work_raiseChris Metcalf
Tile includes a hypervisor hook to deliver messages to arbitrary tiles, so we can use that to raise an interrupt as soon as possible on our own core. Unfortunately the Tilera hypervisor disabled that support on principle in previous releases, but it will be available in MDE 4.3.4 and later. 2012-11-13tracing,x86: Add a TSC trace_clockDavid Sharp
In order to promote interoperability between userspace tracers and ftrace, add a trace_clock that reports raw TSC values which will then be recorded in the ring buffer. Userspace tracers that also record TSCs are then on exactly the same time base as the kernel and events can be unambiguously interlaced. Tested: Enabled a tracepoint and the "tsc" trace_clock and saw very large timestamp values. v2: Move arch-specific bits out of generic code. v3: Rename "x86-tsc", cleanups v7: Generic arch bits in Kbuild. 2012-07-18tile pci: enable IOMMU to support DMA for legacy devicesChris Metcalf
This change uses the TRIO IOMMU to map the PCI DMA space and physical memory at different addresses. We also now use the dma_mapping_ops to provide support for non-PCI DMA, PCIe DMA (64-bit) and legacy PCI DMA (32-bit). We use the kernel's software I/O TLB framework (i.e. bounce buffers) for the legacy 32-bit PCI device support since there are a limited number of TLB entries in the IOMMU and it is non-trivial to handle indexing, searching, matching, etc. For 32-bit devices the performance impact of bounce buffers should not be a concern. 2012-06-28Remove useless wrappers of asm-generic/ipc.hPaul Bolle
mn10300 has a header (in its include/asm directory) that is a thin wrapper around asm-generic/ipc.h. This wrapper is useless, since that header doesn't exist. It is also unused (no file includes asm/ipc.h). hexagon and tile generate similar headers at build time (using a generic-y entry in include/asm/Kbuild). These generated headers are useless and unused too. Remove this header and these generic-y entries. 2012-05-25arch/tile: support <asm/cachectl.h> header for cacheflush() syscallChris Metcalf
We already had a syscall that did some dcache flushing, but it was not used in practice. Make it MIPS compatible instead so it can do both the DCACHE and ICACHE actions. 2012-05-25arch/tile: Allow tilegx to build with either 16K or 64K page sizeChris Metcalf
This change introduces new flags for the hv_install_context() API that passes a page table pointer to the hypervisor. Clients can explicitly request 4K, 16K, or 64K small pages when they install a new context. In practice, the page size is fixed at kernel compile time and the same size is always requested every time a new page table is installed. The <hv/hypervisor.h> header changes so that it provides more abstract macros for managing "page" things like PFNs and page tables. For example there is now a HV_DEFAULT_PAGE_SIZE_SMALL instead of the old HV_PAGE_SIZE_SMALL. The various PFN routines have been eliminated and only PA- or PTFN-based ones remain (since PTFNs are always expressed in fixed 2KB "page" size). The page-table management macros are renamed with a leading underscore and take page-size arguments with the presumption that clients will use those macros in some single place to provide the "real" macros they will use themselves. I happened to notice the old hv_set_caching() API was totally broken (it assumed 4KB pages) so I changed it so it would nominally work correctly with other page sizes. Tag modules with the page size so you can't load a module built with a conflicting page size. (And add a test for SMP while we're at it.) Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
2011-11-03arch/tile: add the <arch> headers to the set of installed kernel headersChris Metcalf
These headers are similar to the <asm> headers that describe kernel APIs, but instead describe aspects of the actual hardware in an OS- and application-independent manner.
