This reverts commit f86a3b83833e7cfe558ca4d70b64ebc48903efec.
Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all
commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were
correct or not.
Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons
below, so it must be reverted. It will be fixed up "correctly" in a
later kernel change.
The original commit causes a memory leak when it is trying to claim it
is properly handling errors. Revert this change and fix it up properly
in a follow-on commit.

Commit eaf4fac47807 ("net: stmmac: Do not accept invalid MTU values")
started using the TX FIFO size to verify what counts as a valid MTU
request for the stmmac driver. This is unset for the ipq806x variant.
Looking at older patches for this it seems the RX + TXs buffers can be
up to 8k, so set appropriately.
(I sent this as an RFC patch in June last year, but received no replies.
I've been running with this on my hardware (a MikroTik RB3011) since
then with larger MTUs to support both the internal qca8k switch and
VLANs with no problems. Without the patch it's impossible to set the
larger MTU required to support this.)

There have chance to re-enable the eee_ctrl_timer and fire the timer
in napi callback after delete the timer in .stmmac_release(), which
introduces to access eee registers in the timer function after clocks
are disabled then causes system hang. Found this issue when do
suspend/resume and reboot stress test.
It is safe to delete the timer after napi disabled and disable lpi mode.

EEE should be only be enabled during stmmac_mac_link_up() when the
link are up and being set up properly. set_eee should only do settings
configuration and disabling the eee.
Without this fix, turning on EEE using ethtool will return
"Operation not supported". This is due to the driver is in a dead loop
waiting for eee to be advertised in the for eee to be activated but the
driver will only configure the EEE advertisement after the eee is
activated.
Ethtool should only return "Operation not supported" if there is no EEE
capbility in the MAC controller.

If we don't have a hardware multicast filter available then instead of
silently failing to listen for the requested ethernet broadcast
addresses fall back to receiving all multicast packets, in a similar
fashion to other drivers with no multicast filter.

The IPQ806x does not appear to have a functional multicast ethernet
address filter. This was observed as a failure to correctly receive IPv6
packets on a LAN to the all stations address. Checking the vendor driver
shows that it does not attempt to enable the multicast filter and
instead falls back to receiving all multicast packets, internally
setting ALLMULTI.
Use the new fallback support in the dwmac1000 driver to correctly
achieve the same with the mainline IPQ806x driver. Confirmed to fix IPv6
functionality on an RB3011 router.

The ipq806x_gmac_probe() function enables the PTP clock but not the
appropriate interface clocks. This means that if the bootloader hasn't
done so attempting to bring up the interface will fail with an error
like:

entries") cleared the unused mac address entries, but introduced an
out-of bounds mac address register programming bug -- After setting
the secondary unicast mac addresses, the "reg" value has reached
netdev_uc_count() + 1, thus we should only clear address entries
if (addr < perfect_addr_number)

The field "name" in struct ptp_clock_info has a fixed size of 16
chars and is used as zero terminated string by clock_name_show()
in drivers/ptp/ptp_sysfs.c
The current initialization value requires 17 chars to fit also the
null termination, and this causes overflow to the next bytes in
the struct when the string is read as null terminated:

There is no strict requirement for the "name" content and in the
comment in ptp_clock_kernel.h it's reported it should just be 'A
short "friendly name" to identify the clock'.
Replace it with "stmmac ptp".

Allow all the RGMII modes to be used. This would allow us to represent
the hardware better in the device tree with RGMII_ID where in most

Currently, if we drop a packet, we exit from NAPI loop before the budget
is consumed. In some situations this will make the RX processing stall
e.g. when flood pinging the system with oversized packets, as the
errorneous packets are not dropped efficiently.
If we drop a packet, we should just continue to the next one as long as
the budget allows.

We always program the maximum DMA buffer size into the receive descriptor,
although the allocated size may be less. E.g. with the default MTU size
we allocate only 1536 bytes. If somebody sends us a bigger frame, then
memory may get corrupted.
Fix by using exact buffer sizes.

The devicetree binding lists the phy phy as optional. As such, the
driver should not bail out if it can't find a regulator. Instead it
should just skip the remaining regulator related code and continue
on normally.
Skip the remainder of phy_power_on() if a regulator supply isn't
available. This also gets rid of the bogus return code.

Commit 984203ceff27 ("net: stmmac: mdio: remove reset gpio free")
removed the reset gpio free, when the driver is unbinded or rmmod,
we miss the gpio free.
This patch uses managed API to request the reset gpio, so that the
gpio could be freed properly.

stmmac_check_ether_addr() checks the MAC address and assigns one in
driver open(). In many cases when we create slave netdevice, the dev
addr is inherited from master but the master dev addr maybe NULL at
that time, so move this call to driver probe so that address is
always valid.

We are saving the status of EEE even before we try to enable it. This
leads to a race with XMIT function that tries to arm EEE timer before we
set it up.
Fix this by only saving the EEE parameters after all operations are
performed with success.

When building stmmac, it is only possible to select CONFIG_DWMAC_GENERIC,
or any of the glue drivers, when CONFIG_STMMAC_PLATFORM is set.
The only exception is CONFIG_STMMAC_PCI.
When calling of_mdiobus_register(), it will call our ->reset()
callback, which is set to stmmac_mdio_reset().
Most of the code in stmmac_mdio_reset() is protected by a
"#if defined(CONFIG_STMMAC_PLATFORM)", which will evaluate
to false when CONFIG_STMMAC_PLATFORM=m.
Because of this, the phy reset gpio will only be pulled when
stmmac is built as built-in, but not when built as modules.
Fix this by using "#if IS_ENABLED()" instead of "#if defined()".

128 unicast filter entries. (Table 7-8 MAC Address Registers from

As for today STMMAC_ALIGN macro (which is used to align DMA stuff)
relies on L1 line length (L1_CACHE_BYTES).
This isn't correct in case of system with several cache levels
which might have L1 cache line length smaller than L2 line. This
can lead to sharing one cache line between DMA buffer and other
data, so we can lose this data while invalidate DMA buffer before
DMA transaction.
Fix that by using SMP_CACHE_BYTES instead of L1_CACHE_BYTES for
aligning.

Note in the databook - Section 4.4 - EEE :
" The EEE feature is not supported when the MAC is configured to use the
TBI, RTBI, SMII, RMII or SGMII single PHY interface. Even if the MAC
supports multiple PHY interfaces, you should activate the EEE mode only
when the MAC is operating with GMII, MII, or RGMII interface."
Applying this restriction solves a stability issue observed on Amlogic
gxl platforms operating with RMII interface and the internal PHY.

Fix this by making sure that register_netdev() is the last thing being done,
which guarantees that the clock and the MDIO bus are available.

dwmac-sunxi has 2 callbacks that were called from stmmac_platform as
part of the probe and remove sequences.
Ater the conversion of dwmac-sunxi into a standalone platform driver,
the .init function is called before calling into the stmmac driver
core, but .exit is not called to clean up if stmmac returns an error.
This patch fixes the probe error path. This properly cleans up and
releases resources when the driver core fails to probe.

There is a memleak when suspend/resume this driver version.
Currently the stmmac, during resume step, reallocates all the resources
but they are not released when suspend.
The patch is not to release these resources but the logic has been changed.
In fact, it is not necessary to free and reallocate all from scratch
because the memory data will be always preserved.
As final solution, the patch just reinit the descriptors and the rx/tx
pointers only when resume. Tested done on STi boxes.

The receive skb buffers can be preallocated when the link is opened
according to mtu size.
While testing on a network environment with not standard MTU (e.g. 3000),
a panic occurred if an incoming packet had a length greater than rx skb
buffer size. This is because the HW is programmed to copy, from the DMA,
an Jumbo frame and the Sw must check if the allocated buffer is enough to
store the frame.

When stmmac_mdio_reset, was called from stmmac_resume, it was not
resetting the PHY due to which MAC was not getting reset properly and
hence ethernet interface not was resumed properly.
The issue was currently only reproducible on stih301-b2204.

In case of the st,tx-retime-src is missing from device-tree
(it's an optional field) the driver will invoke the strcasecmp to check
which clock has been selected and this is a bug; the else condition
is needed.
In the dwmac_setup, the "rs" variable, passed to the strcasecmp, was not
initialized and the compiler, depending on the options adopted, could
take it in some different part of the stack generating the hang in such
configuration.

When resume the HW is re-configured but some settings can be lost.
For example, the MAC Address_X High/Low Registers used for VLAN tagging..
So, while resuming, the set_filter callback needs to be invoked to
re-program perfect and hash-table registers.

This is a result of the type conversion rules in C, when we take the
logical OR of multiple different types. In particular, we have
and unsigned long
QSGMII_PHY_CDR_EN == BIT(0) == (1ul << 0) == 0x0000000000000001ul
and a signed int
0xC << QSGMII_PHY_TX_DRV_AMP_OFFSET == 0xc0000000
which together gives a signed long value
0xffffffffc0000001l
and when this is passed into a function that takes an unsigned int type,
gcc warns about the signed overflow and the loss of the upper 32-bits that
are all ones.
This patch adds 'ul' type modifiers to the literal numbers passed in
here, so now the expression remains an 'unsigned long' with the upper
bits all zero, and that avoids the signed overflow and the warning.

priv->hwts_*_en indicate if timestamping is enabled/disabled at run
time. But priv->dma_cap.time_stamp and priv->dma_cap.atime_stamp
indicates HW is support for PTPv1/PTPv2.

We want to deprecate the use of 'struct timespec' on 32-bit
architectures, as it is will overflow in 2038. The stmmac
driver uses it to read the current time, and can simply
be changed to use ktime_get_real_ts64() instead.
Because of hardware limitations, there is still an overflow
in year 2106, which we cannot really avoid, but this documents
the overflow.

The reset delays used for stmmac are in the order of 10ms to 1 second,
which is far too long for udelay usage, so switch to using msleep.
Practically this fixes the PHY not being reliably detected in some cases
as udelay wouldn't actually delay for long enough to let the phy
reliably be reset.

Current check of phydev with IS_ERR(phydev) may make not much sense
because of_phy_connect() returns NULL on failure instead of error value.
Still for checking result of phy_connect() IS_ERR() makes perfect sense.
So let's use combined check IS_ERR_OR_NULL() that covers both cases.
