The adjust_link() disables interrupts before taking the queue
locks. On RT those locks are converted to "sleeping" locks and
therefor the local_irq_save/restore must be converted to
local_irq_save/restore_nort.

Argh, cut and paste wasn't enough...
Use this patch instead. It needs an irq disable. But, believe it or not,
on SMP this is actually better. If the irq is shared (as it is in Mark's
case), we don't stop the irq of other devices from being handled on
another CPU (unfortunately for Mark, he pinned all interrupts to one CPU).

Preempt-RT runs into a live lock issue with the NETDEV_TX_LOCKED micro
optimization. The reason is that the softirq thread is rescheduling
itself on that return value. Depending on priorities it starts to
monoplize the CPU and livelock on UP systems.
Remove it.

Neither the phy interrupt nor the timer callback which updates the
link status in absense of a phy interrupt are taking lp->lock which
serializes the MDIO access. This works on mainline as at91 is an UP
machine. On preempt-rt the timer callback can run even in the
spin_lock_irq(&lp->lock) protected code pathes because spin_lock_irq
is neither disabling interrupts nor disabling preemption.
Fix this by adding proper locking to at91ether_phy_interrupt() and
at91_check_ether() which serializes the access on -rt.

The underlying hardware is edge triggered but presented by XICS as level
triggered. The edge triggered interrupts are not reissued after masking. This
is not a problem in mainline which does not mask the interrupt (relying on the
EOI mechanism instead). The threaded interrupts in PREEMPT_RT do mask the
interrupt, and can lose interrupts that occurred while masked, resulting in a
hung ethernet interface.
The receive handler simply calls napi_schedule(), as such, there is no
significant additional overhead in making this non-threaded, since we either
wakeup the threaded irq handler to call napi_schedule(), or just call
napi_schedule() directly to wakeup the softirqs. As the receive handler is
lockless, there is no need to convert any of the ehea spinlock_t's to
raw_spinlock_t's.
Without this patch, a simple scp file copy loop would fail quickly (usually
seconds). We have over two hours of sustained scp activity with the patch
applied.
Credit goes to Will Schmidt for lots of instrumentation and tracing which
clarified the scenario and to Thomas Gleixner for the incredibly simple
solution.

[ Upstream commit ff3bc1e7527504a93710535611b2f812f3bb89bf ]
When pre-allocating skbs for received packets, we set ip_summed =
CHECKSUM_UNNCESSARY. We used to change it back to CHECKSUM_NONE when
the received packet had an incorrect checksum or unhandled protocol.
Commit bc8acf2c8c3e43fcc192762a9f964b3e9a17748b ('drivers/net: avoid
some skb->ip_summed initializations') mistakenly replaced the latter
assignment with a DEBUG-only assertion that ip_summed ==
CHECKSUM_NONE. This assertion is always false, but it seems no-one
has exercised this code path in a DEBUG build.
Fix this by moving our assignment of CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY into
efx_rx_packet_gro().

[ Upstream commit 11aad99af6ef629ff3b05d1c9f0936589b204316 ]
This driver attempts to use two TX rings but lacks proper support :
1) IRQ handler only takes care of TX completion on first TX ring
2) the stop/start logic uses the legacy functions (for non multiqueue
drivers)
This means all packets witk skb mark set to 1 are sent through high
queue but are never cleaned and queue eventualy fills and block the
device, triggering the infamous "NETDEV WATCHDOG" message.
Lets use a single TX ring to fix the problem, this driver is not a real
multiqueue one yet.
Minimal fix for stable kernels.

commit 5d69703263d588dbb03f4e57091afd8942d96e6d upstream.
This patch fixes a regression that was introduced by
commit 0a5f38467765ee15478db90d81e40c269c8dda20
davinci_emac: Add Carrier Link OK check in Davinci RX Handler
Said commit adds a check whether the carrier link is ok. If the link is
not ok, the skb is freed and no new dma descriptor added to the rx dma
channel. This causes trouble during initialization when the carrier
status has not yet been updated. If a lot of packets are received while
netif_carrier_ok returns false, all dma descriptors are freed and the
rx dma transfer is stopped.
The bug occurs when the board is connected to a network with lots of
traffic and the ifconfig down/up is done, e.g., when reconfiguring
the interface with DHCP.
The bug can be reproduced by flood pinging the davinci board while doing
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 up
on the board.
After that, the rx path stops working and the overrun value reported
by ifconfig is counting up.
This patch reverts commit 0a5f38467765ee15478db90d81e40c269c8dda20
and instead issues warnings only if cpdma_chan_submit returns -ENOMEM.

If one only selects mx23-based boards, compile fails:
drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/fec.c:410:2: error: 'FEC_HASH_TABLE_HIGH' undeclared (first use in this function)
drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/fec.c:411:2: error: 'FEC_HASH_TABLE_LOW' undeclared (first use in this function)
This is because fec.h uses CONFIG_SOC_IMX28 to determine the register
layout of the core which makes sense since the MX23 does not have a fec.
However, Kconfig uses the broader ARCH_MXS symbol and this way even
makes the fec-driver default for MX23. Adapt Kconfig to use the more
precise SOC_IMX28 as well.

The code for setting the address of the internal TBI PHY was
convoluted enough without a maze of ifdefs. Clean it up a bit
so we allow the logic to fail down to -ENODEV at the end of
the if/else ladder, rather than using ifdefs to repeat the same
failure code over and over.
Also, remove the support for the auto-configuration. I'm not aware of

The pdev->id is used in several places for different purpose. All
these uses assume it's always the id of fec device which is >= 0.
However this is only true for non-DT case. When DT plays, pdev->id
is always -1, which will break these pdev->id users.
Instead of fixing all these users one by one, this patch introduces
a new member 'dev_id' to 'struct fec_enet_private' for holding the
correct fec device id, and replaces all the existing uses of pdev->id
with this dev_id.

Since 92fc43b4159b518f5baae57301f26d770b0834c9, rtl8169_tx_timeout ends up
resetting Rx and Tx indexes and thus racing with the NAPI handler via
-> rtl8169_hw_reset
-> rtl_hw_reset
-> rtl8169_init_ring_indexes
What about returning to the original state ?
rtl_hw_reset is only used by rtl8169_hw_reset and rtl8169_init_one.
The latter does not need rtl8169_init_ring_indexes because the indexes
still contain their original values from the newly allocated network
device private data area (i.e. 0).
rtl8169_hw_reset is used by:
1. rtl8169_down
Helper for rtl8169_close. rtl8169_open explicitely inits the indexes
anyway.
2. rtl8169_pcierr_interrupt
Indexes are set by rtl8169_reinit_task.
3. rtl8169_interrupt
rtl8169_hw_reset is needed when the device goes down. See 1.
4. rtl_shutdown
System shutdown handler. Indexes are irrelevant.
5. rtl8169_reset_task
Indexes must be set before rtl_hw_start is called.
6. rtl8169_tx_timeout
Indexes should not be set. This is the job of rtl8169_reset_task anyway.
The removal of rtl8169_hw_reset in rtl8169_tx_timeout and its move in
rtl8169_reset_task do not change the analysis.

Realtek has specified that the post 8168c gigabit chips and the post
8105e fast ethernet chips recover automatically from a Rx FIFO overflow.
The driver does not need to clear the RxFIFOOver bit of IntrStatus and
it should rather avoid messing it.
The implementation deserves some explanation:
1. events outside of the intr_event bit mask are now ignored. It enforces
a no-processing policy for the events that either should not be there
or should be ignored.
2. RxFIFOOver was already ignored in rtl_cfg_infos[RTL_CFG_1] for the
whole 8168 line of chips with two exceptions:
- RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_22 since b5ba6d12bdac21bc0620a5089e0f24e362645efd
("use RxFIFO overflow workaround for 8168c chipset.").
This one should now be correctly handled.
- RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_11 (8168b) which requires a different Rx FIFO
overflow processing.
Though it does not conform to Realtek suggestion above, the updated
driver includes no change for RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_12 and RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_17.
Both are 8168b. RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_12 is common and a bit old so I'd rather
wait for experimental evidence that the change suggested by Realtek really
helps or does not hurt in unexpected ways.
Removed case statements in rtl8169_interrupt are only 8168 relevant.
3. RxFIFOOver is masked for post 8105e 810x chips, namely the sole 8105e
(RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_30) itself.

We should only fill the jumbo ring once the MTU is increased but
for now halve it's size so it consumes 32MB. Also reduce the tiny
packet ring, with 4 queues we had 16k entries which is overkill.

When transmiting a fragmented skb, qlge fills a descriptor with the
fragment addresses, after DMA-mapping them. If there are more than eight
fragments, it will use the eighth descriptor as a pointer to an external
list. After mapping this external list, called OAL to a structure
containing more descriptors, it fills it with the extra fragments.
However, considering that systems with pages larger than 8KiB would have
less than 8 fragments, which was true before commit a715dea3c8e, it
defined a macro for the OAL size as 0 in those cases.
Now, if a skb with more than 8 fragments (counting skb->data as one
fragment), this would start overwriting the list of addresses already
mapped and would make the driver fail to properly unmap the right
addresses on architectures with pages larger than 8KiB.
Besides that, the list of mappings was one size too small, since it must
have a mapping for the maxinum number of skb fragments plus one for
skb->data and another for the OAL. So, even on architectures with page
sizes 4KiB and 8KiB, a skb with the maximum number of fragments would
make the driver overwrite its counter for the number of mappings, which,
again, would make it fail to unmap the mapped DMA addresses.

Reported issues when using dev_kfree_skb() on UP systems and
systems with low numbers of cores. dev_kfree_skb_irq() will
properly save IRQ state before freeing the skb.
Tested on 3.1.1 and 3.2_rc2

We need to mask the MMC irq otherwise if we raise the mmc
interrupts that are not handled the driver loops in the
handler.
In fact, by default all mmc counters (only used for stats)
are managed in SW and registers are cleared on each READ.

The hardware has a restriction that the minimum ring size possible
is 128. The number of elements used is controlled by tx_pending and
the overall number of elements in the ring tx_ring_size, therefore it
is okay to limit the number of elements in use to a small value (63)
but still provide a bigger ring.

This patch removes un-needed spin_lock in stmmac_ioctl while reading and
writing mdio registers. While holding spin_lock the code must be
atomic, which is not true in this case as both mdiobus_read and writes
have mutex locks.
Without this patch reading mdio registers via mii-tool results in below

New GMAC devices (newer than the databook 3.50a) have the
HW capability register that provides which features are actually
supported by the hardware.
On old devices many information have to be passed through the
platform, for example: enhanced descriptor structure,
TX COE etc. These are mandatory to properly configure the driver.
This remains still valid because the driver has to support old
Synopsys devices but now it's also able to override them using the
values from the HW capability register if supported.
