2009-04-29sfc: Use generic MDIO functions and definitionsBen Hutchings
Make use of the newly-added generic MDIO clause 45 support and remove redundant definitions. Add an 'efx_' prefix to the remaining driver-specific MDIO functions and remove arguments which are redundant with efx->mdio.prtad. 2009-04-16gro: New frags interface to avoid copying shinfoHerbert Xu
It turns out that copying a 16-byte area at ~800k times a second can be really expensive :) This patch redesigns the frags GRO interface to avoid copying that area twice. The two disciples of the frags interface have been converted. Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <herbert@gondor.apana.org.au> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-04-14sfc: Use correct macro to set event bitfieldBen Hutchings
falcon_sim_phy_event() used EFX_OWORD_FIELD, which operates on bitfields in 128-bit values, on an event, which is a 64-bit value. This should be harmless - these macros always use little-endian ordering, so it would read and write back the following 8 bytes unchanged - but it is obviously wrong. 2009-04-14sfc: Match calls to netif_napi_add() and netif_napi_del()Ben Hutchings
sfc could call netif_napi_add() multiple times for the same napi_struct, corrupting the list of napi_structs for the associated device and leading to a busy-loop on device removal. Move the call to netif_napi_add() and add a call to netif_napi_del() in the obvious places. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-04-08sfc: Don't specify unexistent IRQJean Delvare
Neither the lm90 driver nor the lm87 driver do support interrupts, so there is no point in specifying one when declaring the devices. Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org> Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-03-31sfc: Call netif_napi_add() before registering our interrupt handlerBen Hutchings
If we use a shared legacy IRQ then our interrupt handler may be called as soon as it is registered even though IRQs are disabled on the NIC. Now that the legacy interrupt handler also checks for event delivery, it may decide to schedule polling in this case. Ensure that the NAPI context is valid but disabled at this point. 2009-03-21sfc: Implement adaptive IRQ moderationBen Hutchings
Calculate a score for each 1000 IRQs: - TX completions are worth 1 point - RX completions are worth 4 if merged using LRO or 2 otherwise Reduce moderation if the score is less than 10000, down to a minimum of 5 us. 2009-03-21sfc: Optimise falcon_writel_page_locked() for page > 0Ben Hutchings
The bug this function works around only applies to the first set of page-mapped registers; other pages can be written without locking. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2009-03-21sfc: Work around unreliable legacy interrupt statusBen Hutchings
In rare cases, reading the legacy interrupt status register can acknowledge an event queue whose attention flag has not yet been set in the register. Until we service this event queue it will not generate any more interrupts. Therefore, as a secondary check, poll the next slot in each active event queue whose flag is not set. 2009-03-21sfc: Pad packets to 33 bytes to prevent TX packet parser lockupBen Hutchings
The packet parser used in the TX data path for locating checksum fields can lose synchronisation with the TX queue manager when handling packets that look like IPv4 but are too short (17-32 bytes). Work around this by padding to 33 bytes. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-03-04sfc: Improve NIC internal error recoveryBen Hutchings

2009-03-04sfc: Fix search for flush completion eventsBen Hutchings
When flushing queues we disable normal interrupt and event handling and poll event queue 0 looking for flush completions. Unfortunately the flush event polling loop fails to move past any other type of event. This problem has not been observed in production hardware but appears to be a possibility. 2009-03-04sfc: Clear I2C adapter structure in falcon_remove_nic()Ben Hutchings
i2c_del_adapter() leaves dangling pointers in the structure. If we retry the NIC probe and pass the structure to i2c_add_adapter() again it will lead to an oops unless we clear it first. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2009-03-02sfc: Fix test for MDIO read failureBen Hutchings
Commit 27dd2caca4eabe7c13a052b7456495ba75535e6a changed mdio_clause45_check_mmds() to read both DEVS0 and DEVS1 registers and to combine their values into an unsigned 32-bit mask. 2009-01-30sfc: Replace stats_enabled flag with a disable countBen Hutchings
Currently we use a spin-lock to serialise statistics fetches and also to inhibit them for short periods of time, plus a flag to enable/disable statistics fetches for longer periods of time, during online reset. This was apparently insufficient to deal with the several reasons for stats being disabled. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2009-01-30sfc: SFX7101/SFT9001: Fix AN advertisementsBen Hutchings
All 10Xpress PHYs require autonegotiation all the time; enforce this in the set_settings() method and do not treat it as a workaround. Remove claimed support for 100M HD mode since it is not supported by current firmware. Do not set speed override bits when AN is enabled, and do not use register 1.49192 for AN configuration as it can override what we set elsewhere. Always set the AN selector bits to 1 (802.3). Fix confusion between Next Page and Extended Next Page. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2009-01-30sfc: Test for PHYXS faults whenever we cannot test link state bitsSteve Hodgson
Depending on the loopback mode, there may be no pertinent link state bits. In this case we test the PHYXS RX fault bit instead. Make sure to do this in all cases where there are no link state bits. 2009-01-30sfc: Reinitialise the PHY completely in case of a PHY or NIC resetSteve Hodgson

2009-01-30sfc: Fix post-reset MAC selectionSteve Hodgson

2009-01-30sfc: SFX7101: Remove workaround for bad link trainingSteve Hodgson
Early versions of the SFX7101 firmware could complete link training in a state where it would not adequately cancel noise (Solarflare bug 10750). We previously worked around this by resetting the PHY after seeing many Ethernet CRC errors. This workaround is unsafe since it takes no account of the interval between errors; it also appears to be unnecessary with production firmware. Therefore remove it. 2009-01-21sfc: Replace LRO with GROHerbert Xu
This patch makes sfc invoke the GRO hooks instead of LRO. As GRO has a compatible external interface to LRO this is a very straightforward replacement. Everything should appear identical to the user except that the offload is now controlled by the GRO ethtool option instead of LRO. I've kept the lro module parameter as is since that's for compatibility only. I have eliminated efx_rx_mk_skb as the GRO layer can take care of all packets regardless of whether GRO is enabled or not. So the only case where we don't call GRO is if the packet checksum is absent. This is to keep the behaviour changes of the patch to a minimum.
