The cts protection vdev parameter, in new QCA9377 TF2.0 firmware,
requires bss peer to be created for the STATION vdev type.
bss peer is being allocated by the firmware after vdev_start/_up commands.
mac80211 may call the cts protection setup at any time, so the
we needs to track the situation and defer the cts configuration
to prevent firmware asserts, like below:

With command to get board_id from otp, in the case of following
boot get otp board id result 0x00000000 board_id 0 chip_id 0
boot using board name 'bus=pci,bmi-chip-id=0,bmi-board-id=0"
...
failed to fetch board data for bus=pci,bmi-chip-id=0,bmi-board-id=0 from
ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/board-2.bin
The invalid board_id=0 will be used as index to search in the board-2.bin.
Ignore the case with board_id=0, as it means the otp is not carrying
the board id information.

Ath10k reports the phy capability that supports P2P_DEVICE interface.
When we use the P2P supported wpa_supplicant to start connection, it'll
create two interfaces, one is wlan0 (vdev_id=0) and one is P2P_DEVICE
p2p-dev-wlan0 which is for p2p control channel (vdev_id=1).

And the txpower in per vif bss_conf will only be set to valid tx power when
the interface is assigned with channel_ctx.
But this P2P_DEVICE interface will never be used for any connection, so
that the uninitialized bss_conf.txpower=0 is assinged to the
arvif->txpower when interface created.
Since the txpower configuration is firmware per physical interface.
So the smallest txpower of all vifs will be the one limit the tx power
of the physical device, that causing the low txpower issue on other
active interfaces.
wlan0: Limiting TX power to 21 (24 - 3) dBm

In a few cases the err-variable is not set to a negative error code if a
function call in typhoon_init_one() fails and thus 0 is returned
instead.
It may be better to set err to the appropriate negative error
code before returning.

Lennart reported the following race condition:

This problem arises because the single flag get_link_status is used to
signal two different states: link status needs checking and link status is
down.
Avoid the problem by using the return value of .check_for_link to signal
the link status to e1000e_has_link().

This patch fixes an issue seen on Power systems with ixgbe which results
in skb list corruption and an eventual kernel oops. The following is what
was observed:

The read_barrier_depends is insufficient to ensure that tx_buffer->skb does not
get loaded prior to tx_buffer->next_to_watch, which then results in loading
a stale skb pointer. This patch replaces the read_barrier_depends with
smp_rmb to ensure loads are ordered with respect to the load of
tx_buffer->next_to_watch.

We set rtlhal->last_suspend_sec to an uninitialized stack variable,
but unfortunately gcc never warned about this, I only found it
while working on another patch. I opened a gcc bug for this.
Presumably the value of rtlhal->last_suspend_sec is not all that
important, but it does get used, so we probably want the
patch backported to stable kernels.

In routine rtl92ee_set_fw_rsvdpagepkt(), the driver allocates an skb, but
never calls rtl_cmd_send_packet(), which will free the buffer. All other
rtlwifi drivers perform this operation correctly.
This problem has been in the driver since it was included in the kernel.
Fortunately, each firmware load only leaks 4 buffers, which likely
explains why it has not previously been detected.

After commit 07f4c90062f8 ("tcp/dccp: try to not exhaust ip_local_port_range
in connect()"), we will try to use even ports for connect(). Then if an
application (seen clearly with iperf) opens multiple streams to the same
destination IP and port, each stream will be given an even source port.
So the bonding driver's simple xmit_hash_policy based on layer3+4 addressing
will always hash all these streams to the same interface. And the total
throughput will limited to a single slave.
Change the tcp code will impact the whole tcp behavior, only for bonding
usage. Paolo Abeni suggested fix this by changing the bonding code only,
which should be more reasonable, and less impact.
Fix this by discarding the lowest hash bit because it contains little entropy.
After the fix we can re-balance between slaves.

A retry count of 10 is likely to run into problems on X550 devices that
have to detect and reset unresponsive CS4227 devices. So, reduce the I2C
retry count to 3 for X550 and above. This should avoid any possible
regressions in existing devices.

When an interface is part of a namespace it is possible that
ixgbe_close() may be called while __ixgbe_shutdown() is running
which ends up in a double free WARN and/or a BUG in free_msi_irqs().
To handle this situation we extend the rtnl_lock() to protect the
call to netif_device_detach() and ixgbe_clear_interrupt_scheme()
in __ixgbe_shutdown() and check for netif_device_present()
to avoid clearing the interrupts second time in ixgbe_close();
Also extend the rtnl lock in ixgbe_resume() to netif_device_attach().

Make sure that we free the IRQs in ixgbe_io_error_detected() when
responding to an PCIe AER error and also restore them when the
interface recovers from it.
Previously it was possible to trigger BUG_ON() check in free_msix_irqs()
in the case where we call ixgbe_remove() after a failed recovery from
AER error because the interrupts were not freed.

Similar to ixgbe, when an interface is part of a namespace it is

Several people have reported firmware leaving the I210/I211 PHY's page
select register set to something other than the default of zero. This
causes the first accesses, PHY_IDx register reads, to access something
else, resulting in device probe failure:

Resetting the PHY before reading from it, ensures the page select
register is in its default state and doesn't make assumptions about
the PHY's register set before the PHY has been probed.

Multiple IES API resets can cause a race condition where the mailbox
interrupt request bits can be cleared before being handled. This can
leave certain mailbox messages from the PF to be untreated and the PF
will enter in some inactive state. If this situation occurs, the IES API
will initiate a mailbox version reset which, then, trigger a mailbox
state change. Once this mailbox transition occurs (from OPEN to CONNECT
state), a request for reset will be returned.
This ensures that PF will undergo a reset whenever IES API encounters an
unknown global mailbox interrupt event or whenever the IES API
terminates.

Upon stopping an AP interface the driver disable INFRA mode effectively
setting the interface in IBSS mode. However, this may affect other
interfaces running in INFRA mode. For instance, if user creates and stops
hostap daemon on virtual interface, then association cannot work on
primary interface because default BSS has been set to IBSS mode in
firmware side. The IBSS mode should be set when cfg80211 changes the
interface.

ppp_release() tries to ensure that netdevices are unregistered before
decrementing the unit refcount and running ppp_destroy_interface().
This is all fine as long as the the device is unregistered by
ppp_release(): the unregister_netdevice() call, followed by
rtnl_unlock(), guarantee that the unregistration process completes
before rtnl_unlock() returns.
However, the device may be unregistered by other means (like
ppp_nl_dellink()). If this happens right before ppp_release() calling
rtnl_lock(), then ppp_release() has to wait for the concurrent
unregistration code to release the lock.
But rtnl_unlock() releases the lock before completing the device
unregistration process. This allows ppp_release() to proceed and
eventually call ppp_destroy_interface() before the unregistration
process completes. Calling free_netdev() on this partially unregistered
device will BUG():

We could set the ->needs_free_netdev flag on PPP devices and move the
ppp_destroy_interface() logic in the ->priv_destructor() callback. But
that'd be quite intrusive as we'd first need to unlink from the other
channels and units that depend on the device (the ones that used the
PPPIOCCONNECT and PPPIOCATTACH ioctls).
Instead, we can just let the netdevice hold a reference on its
ppp_file. This reference is dropped in ->priv_destructor(), at the very
end of the unregistration process, so that neither ppp_release() nor
ppp_disconnect_channel() can call ppp_destroy_interface() in the interim.

If the name argument of dev_get_valid_name() contains "%d", it will try
to assign it a unit number in __dev__alloc_name() and return either the
unit number (>= 0) or an error code (< 0).
Considering positive values as error values prevent tun device creations
relying this mechanism, therefor we should only consider negative values
as errors here.

register_netdevice() could fail early when we have an invalid
dev name, in which case ->ndo_uninit() is not called. For tun
device, this is a problem because a timer etc. are already
initialized and it expects ->ndo_uninit() to clean them up.
We could move these initializations into a ->ndo_init() so
that register_netdevice() knows better, however this is still
complicated due to the logic in tun_detach().
Therefore, I choose to just call dev_get_valid_name() before
register_netdevice(), which is quicker and much easier to audit.
And for this specific case, it is already enough.

The D_CAN controller doesn't provide a triple sampling mode, so don't set
the CAN_CTRLMODE_3_SAMPLES flag in ctrlmode_supported. Currently enabling
triple sampling is a no-op.

SUN4Is CAN IP has a 64 byte deep FIFO buffer. If the buffer is not
drained fast enough (overrun) it's getting mangled. Already received
frames are dropped - the data can't be restored.

Some firmwares in Huawei E3372H devices have been observed to switch back
to NTB 32-bit format after altsetting switch.
This patch implements a driver flag to check for the device settings and
set NTB format to 16-bit again if needed.
The flag has been activated for devices controlled by the huawei_cdc_ncm.c
driver.

The default for the maximum number of tx/rx queues of one interface is
the number of cpus of the system today. As each queue pair reserves 512
grant pages this default consumes a ridiculous number of grants for
large guests.
Limit the queue number to 8 as default. This value can be modified
via a module parameter if required.

To avoid kernel warning "Unhandled message (68)", ignore the
CMD_FLUSH_QUEUE_REPLY message for now.
As of Leaf v2 firmware version v4.1.844 (2017-02-15), flush tx queue is
synchronous. There is a capability bit indicating whether flushing tx
queue is synchronous or asynchronous.
A proper solution would be to query the device for capabilities. If the
synchronous tx flush capability bit is set, we should wait for
CMD_FLUSH_QUEUE_REPLY message, while flushing the tx queue.

of REG_DBI_READ was changed from 16 to 8 bits. For unknown reasonsi

Here, I'm reducing the stack size by marking as many local variables as
'static const' as I can without changing the actual code.
This is the first of three patches to improve the stack usage in this
driver. It would be good to have this backported to stabl kernels
to get all drivers in 'allmodconfig' below the 2048 byte limit so
we can turn on the frame warning again globally, but I realize that
the patch is larger than the normal limit for stable backports.
The other two patches do not need to be backported.

The dlc member of the struct rx_msg contains also the ESD_RTR flag to
mark received RTR frames. Without the fix the can_dlc value for received
RTR frames would always be set to 8 by get_can_dlc() instead of the
received value.

If sending messages with no cable connected, it quickly happens that
there is no more TX context available. Then "gs_can_start_xmit()"
returns with "NETDEV_TX_BUSY" and the upper layer does retry
immediately keeping the CPU busy. To fix that issue, I moved
"atomic_dec(&dev->active_tx_urbs)" from "gs_usb_xmit_callback()" to
the TX done handling in "gs_usb_receive_bulk_callback()". Renaming
"active_tx_urbs" to "active_tx_contexts" and moving it into
"gs_[alloc|free]_tx_context()" would also make sense.

The mvpp2_txq_bufs_free() function is called upon TX completion to DMA
unmap TX buffers, and free the corresponding SKBs. It gets the
references to the SKB to free and the DMA buffer to unmap from a per-CPU
txq_pcpu data structure.
However, the code currently increments the pointer to the next entry
before doing the DMA unmap and freeing the SKB. It does not cause any
visible problem because for a given SKB the TX completion is guaranteed
to take place on the CPU where the TX was started. However, it is much
more logical to increment the pointer to the next entry once the current
entry has been completely unmapped/released.

In the VF driver, module parameter mlx4_log_num_mgm_entry_size was
mistakenly overwritten -- and in a manner which overrode the
device-managed flow steering option encoded in the parameter.
log_num_mgm_entry_size is a global module parameter which
affects all ConnectX-3 PFs installed on that host.
If a VF changes log_num_mgm_entry_size, this will affect all PFs
which are probed subsequent to the change (by disabling DMFS for
those PFs).

The cited commit makes a great job of finding optimal shift/multiplier
values assuming a 10 seconds wrap around, but forgot to change the
overflow_period computation.
It overflows in cyclecounter_cyc2ns(), and the final result is 804 ms,
which is silly.
Lets simply use 5 seconds, no need to recompute this, given how it is
supposed to work.
Later, we will use a timer instead of a work queue, since the new RX
allocation schem will no longer need mlx4_en_recover_from_oom() and the
service_task firing every 250 ms.
