An empty __dtb_start to __dtb_end section might result in
initial_boot_params being null for arch/mips/ralink. This showed that the
boot process hangs indefinitely in of_scan_flat_dt().

The memory allocator passed to __unflatten_device_tree() (e.g. a wrapped

sparse gives the following warning for 'pci_space':

On imx6 boards with 2GiB of RAM we have several allocation errors due to
low available vmalloc size such as:
DMA: failed to allocate 100 KiB pool for atomic coherent allocation
imx-sdma: probe of 20ec000.sdma failed with error -12
fec: probe of 2188000.ethernet failed with error -12
This problem does not happen with the original 4.1.15_GA release, but
starting in 4.1.22 with commit 444cf5487d5f51a ("of: alloc anywhere
from memblock if range not specified") such boards fail to allocate memory.
There is no issue with 444cf5487d5f51a ("of: alloc anywhere from memblock
if range not specified") itself, but it is incompatible with the way
NXP kernel uses to allocate memory.
To be on the conservative side, let's simply revert such commmit while an
official fix comes from NXP when they upgrade their 4.1 kernel to something
newer than 4.1.22.

Fix a memory leak resulting from memory allocation in safe_name().
This patch fixes all call sites of safe_name().
Mathieu Malaterre reported the memory leak on boot:
On my PowerMac device-tree would generate a duplicate name:

in this case a newly allocated name is generated by `safe_name`. However
in this case it is never deallocated.

The kernel-doc for the of_irq_get[_byname]() is clearly inadequate in
describing the return values -- of_irq_get_byname() is documented better
than of_irq_get() but it still doesn't mention that 0 is returned iff
irq_create_of_mapping() fails (it doesn't return an error code in this
case). Document all possible return value variants, making the writing
of the word "IRQ" consistent, while at it...

early_init_dt_alloc_reserved_memory_arch passes end as 0 to
__memblock_alloc_base, when limits are not specified. But
__memblock_alloc_base takes end value of 0 as MEMBLOCK_ALLOC_ACCESSIBLE
and limits the end to memblock.current_limit. This results in regions
never being placed in HIGHMEM area, for e.g. CMA.
Let __memblock_alloc_base allocate from anywhere in memory if limits are
not specified.

There is an alignment mismatch issue between the of_reserved_mem and
the CMA setup requirement. The of_reserved_mem will try to get the
alignment value from the DTS and pass it to __memblock_alloc_base to
do the memory block base allocation, but the alignment value specified
in the DTS may not satisfy the CAM setup requirement since CMA setup
required the alignment as the following in the code:
align = PAGE_SIZE << max(MAX_ORDER - 1, pageblock_order);
The sanity check in the function of rmem_cma_setup will fail if the
alignment does not setup correctly and thus CMA will fail to setup.
This patch is to fixup the alignment to meet the CMA setup required.

of_alias_max_index will return the maximum number for which an
alias of a given stem exists. This is useful for frameworks
whishing to reserve a number of device slots from dynamic
allocation.

This defines a new compatible option for MFD devices "simple-mfd" that will
make the OF core spawn child devices for all subnodes of that MFD device.
It is optional but handy for things like syscon and possibly other
simpler MFD devices.
Since there was no file to put the documentation in, I took this opportunity
to make a small writeup on MFD devices and add the compatible definition
there.

Currently the PHY management type is selected by the MAC driver arbitrary.
The decision is based on the presence of the "fixed-link" node and on a
will of the driver's authors.
This caused a regression recently, when mvneta driver suddenly started
to use the in-band status for auto-negotiation on fixed links.
It appears the auto-negotiation may not work when expected by the MAC driver.
Sebastien Rannou explains:

a PHY that aggregates 4xSGMIIs to 1xQSGMII ; the MAC side of the PHY (with
inband status) is connected to the switch through QSGMII, and in this context

When parsing the memory nodes to populate the memblock memory
table, we check against high and low limits and clip any memory
that exceeds either one of them.
However, for arm64, the high limit of (phys_addr_t)~0 is not very
meaningful, since phys_addr_t is 64 bits (i.e., no limit) but there
may be other constraints that limit the memory ranges that we can
support.
So rename MAX_PHYS_ADDR to MAX_MEMBLOCK_ADDR (for clarity) and only
define it if the arch does not supply a definition of its own.

If the internal call to of_address_to_resource() fails, we end up
looping forever in of_find_matching_node_by_address(). This can be
caused by a defective device tree, or calling with an incorrect
matches argument.
Fix by calling of_find_matching_node() unconditionally at the end of
the loop.

41f8bba7f555 ("of/pci: Add pci_register_io_range() and
pci_pio_to_address()") added support for systems with several I/O ranges
described by OF bindings. It modified pci_address_to_pio() look up the
io_range for a given CPU physical address, but the conversion was wrong.
Fix the conversion of address to I/O port.

Commit 5590f3196b29 ("drivers/core/of: Add symlink to device-tree from
devices with an OF node") adds the symlink `of_node` for each device
pointing to it's device tree node while creating/initialising it.
However the devicetree sysfs is created and setup in of_init which is
executed at core_initcall level. For all the devices created before
of_init, the following error is thrown:
"Error -2(-ENOENT) creating of_node link"
Like many other components in driver model, initialize the sysfs support
for OF/devicetree from driver_init so that it's ready before any devices
are created.

During the course of the overlay selftests some of them remain
applied. While this does not pose a real problem, make sure you track
them and destroy them at the end of the test.

SoC peripherals can come in several different flavors:
- little-endian: registers always need to be accessed in LE mode (so the
kernel should perform a swap if the CPU is running BE)
- big-endian: registers always need to be accessed in BE mode (so the
kernel should perform a swap if the CPU is running LE)
- native-endian: the bus will automatically swap accesses, so the kernel
should never swap
Introduce a function that checks an OF device node to see whether it
contains a "big-endian" or "native-endian" property. For the former case,
always return true. For the latter case, return true iff the kernel was
built for BE (implying that the BE MMIO accessors do not perform a swap).
Otherwise return false, assuming LE registers.
LE registers are assumed by default because most existing drivers (libahci,
serial8250, usb) always use readl/writel in the absence of instructions
to the contrary, so that will be our fallback.

Commit 51975db0b7333 ("of/flattree: merge early_init_dt_scan_memory()
common code") consolidated some code from PowerPC (typically
big-endian), and ended-up adding a pr_debug() printing reg properties in
big-endian (DT native) format, not CPU endian.
This debug print suffers from two problems:
- we only print 4 "reg" values, while there could be more on typical
systems having multiple memory ranges
- we print these 4 "reg" values in FDT endianess, that is big-endian,
and these values could be confusing for little-endian configurations
Since we are already printing the base address and size of the memory
regions parsed by early_init_dt_scan_memory() later in a way that is
both endian correct, and takes into account arbitrary number of memory
banks, just remove that part of the debug print.

The previous commit, "of/unittest: early return from test skips tests"
exposed broken tests for the of_platform_unpopulate() function. The
problem was the populate and depopulate calls were not symmetrical like
they were intended to be, and unpopulate depends on the parent device to
have it's of_node pointer pointing to the parent device node. Fix these
bugs so that the test case works correctly.
In the process, the test_bus used as a container for the test devices
has been changed from a statically allocated struct device (which is
bad) to a properly allocated device with a .release() method (which is
good). This stops the test code from being a bad example of abusing the
device model.

of_get_mac_address() basically does the same thing thrice, every time with a
different property name, so it makes sense to factor out the repetitive code
into separate function. While at it, we can start using ETH_ALEN instead of the
bare number and drop unnecessary parens around the property length check.
The resulting ARM object file is 100 bytes less in size than before the patch.

Currently OF_DYNAMIC and OF_OVERLAY are not visible to the user, and are
selected automatically only when needed.
Allow them to be enabled manually to improve device tree unit test
coverage.
