2016-06-01hpfs: implement the show_options methodMikulas Patocka
commit 037369b872940cd923835a0a589763180c4a36bc upstream. The HPFS filesystem used generic_show_options to produce string that is displayed in /proc/mounts. However, there is a problem that the options may disappear after remount. If we mount the filesystem with option1 and then remount it with option2, /proc/mounts should show both option1 and option2, however it only shows option2 because the whole option string is replaced with replace_mount_options in hpfs_remount_fs. To fix this bug, implement the hpfs_show_options function that prints options that are currently selected. 2016-06-01hpfs: fix remount failure when there are no options changedMikulas Patocka
commit 44d51706b4685f965cd32acde3fe0fcc1e6198e8 upstream. Commit ce657611baf9 ("hpfs: kstrdup() out of memory handling") checks if the kstrdup function returns NULL due to out-of-memory condition. However, if we are remounting a filesystem with no change to filesystem-specific options, the parameter data is NULL. In this case, kstrdup returns NULL (because it was passed NULL parameter), although no out of memory condition exists. The mount syscall then fails with ENOMEM. This patch fixes the bug. We fail with ENOMEM only if data is non-NULL. The patch also changes the call to replace_mount_options - if we didn't pass any filesystem-specific options, we don't call replace_mount_options (thus we don't erase existing reported options). 2016-03-03hpfs: don't truncate the file when delete failsMikulas Patocka
commit b6853f78e763d42c7a158d8de3549c9827c604ab upstream. The delete opration can allocate additional space on the HPFS filesystem due to btree split. The HPFS driver checks in advance if there is available space, so that it won't corrupt the btree if we run out of space during splitting. If there is not enough available space, the HPFS driver attempted to truncate the file, but this results in a deadlock since the commit 7dd29d8d865efdb00c0542a5d2c87af8c52ea6c7 ("HPFS: Introduce a global mutex and lock it on every callback from VFS"). This patch removes the code that tries to truncate the file and -ENOSPC is returned instead. If the user hits -ENOSPC on delete, he should try to delete other files (that are stored in a leaf btree node), so that the delete operation will make some space for deleting the file stored in non-leaf btree node. 2014-04-03mm + fs: store shadow entries in page cacheJohannes Weiner
Reclaim will be leaving shadow entries in the page cache radix tree upon evicting the real page. As those pages are found from the LRU, an iput() can lead to the inode being freed concurrently. At this point, reclaim must no longer install shadow pages because the inode freeing code needs to ensure the page tree is really empty. Add an address_space flag, AS_EXITING, that the inode freeing code sets under the tree lock before doing the final truncate. Reclaim will check for this flag before installing shadow pages. 2014-03-13fs: push sync_filesystem() down to the file system's remount_fs()Theodore Ts'o
Previously, the no-op "mount -o mount /dev/xxx" operation when the file system is already mounted read-write causes an implied, unconditional syncfs(). This seems pretty stupid, and it's certainly documented or guaraunteed to do this, nor is it particularly useful, except in the case where the file system was mounted rw and is getting remounted read-only. However, it's possible that there might be some file systems that are actually depending on this behavior. In most file systems, it's probably fine to only call sync_filesystem() when transitioning from read-write to read-only, and there are some file systems where this is not needed at all (for example, for a pseudo-filesystem or something like romfs). 2014-02-02hpfs: optimize quad buffer loadingMikulas Patocka
HPFS needs to load 4 consecutive 512-byte sectors when accessing the directory nodes or bitmaps. We can't switch to 2048-byte block size because files are allocated in the units of 512-byte sectors. Previously, the driver would allocate a 2048-byte area using kmalloc, copy the data from four buffers to this area and eventually copy them back if they were modified. In the current implementation of the buffer cache, buffers are allocated in the pagecache. That means that 4 consecutive 512-byte buffers are stored in consecutive areas in the kernel address space. So, we don't need to allocate extra memory and copy the content of the buffers there. This patch optimizes the code to avoid copying the buffers. It checks if the four buffers are stored in contiguous memory - if they are not, it falls back to allocating a 2048-byte area and copying data there. 2014-02-02hpfs: remember free spaceMikulas Patocka
Previously, hpfs scanned all bitmaps each time the user asked for free space using statfs. This patch changes it so that hpfs scans the bitmaps only once, remembes the free space and on next invocation of statfs it returns the value instantly. New versions of wine are hammering on the statfs syscall very heavily, making some games unplayable when they're stored on hpfs, with load times in minutes. This should be backported to the stable kernels because it fixes user-visible problem (excessive level load times in wine). git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs Pull vfs update from Al Viro: - big one - consolidation of descriptor-related logics; almost all of that is moved to fs/file.c (BTW, I'm seriously tempted to rename the result to fd.c. As it is, we have a situation when file_table.c is about handling of struct file and file.c is about handling of descriptor tables; the reasons are historical - file_table.c used to be about a static array of struct file we used to have way back). A lot of stray ends got cleaned up and converted to saner primitives, disgusting mess in android/binder.c is still disgusting, but at least doesn't poke so much in descriptor table guts anymore. A bunch of relatively minor races got fixed in process, plus an ext4 struct file leak. - related thing - fget_light() partially unuglified; see fdget() in there (and yes, it generates the code as good as we used to have). - also related - bits of Cyrill's procfs stuff that got entangled into that work; _not_ all of it, just the initial move to fs/proc/fd.c and switch of fdinfo to seq_file. - Alex's fs/coredump.c spiltoff - the same story, had been easier to take that commit than mess with conflicts. The rest is a separate pile, this was just a mechanical code movement. - a few misc patches all over the place. Not all for this cycle, there'll be more (and quite a few currently sit in akpm's tree)." Fix up trivial conflicts in the android binder driver, and some fairly simple conflicts due to two different changes to the sock_alloc_file() interface ("take descriptor handling from sock_alloc_file() to callers" vs "net: Providing protocol type via system.sockprotoname xattr of /proc/PID/fd entries" adding a dentry name to the socket) * 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs: (72 commits) MAX_LFS_FILESIZE should be a loff_t compat: fs: Generic compat_sys_sendfile implementation fs: push rcu_barrier() from deactivate_locked_super() to filesystems btrfs: reada_extent doesn't need kref for refcount coredump: move core dump functionality into its own file coredump: prevent double-free on an error path in core dumper usb/gadget: fix misannotations fcntl: fix misannotations ceph: don't abuse d_delete() on failure exits hypfs: ->d_parent is never NULL or negative vfs: delete surplus inode NULL check switch simple cases of fget_light to fdget new helpers: fdget()/fdput() switch o2hb_region_dev_write() to fget_light() proc_map_files_readdir(): don't bother with grabbing files make get_file() return its argument vhost_set_vring(): turn pollstart/pollstop into bool switch prctl_set_mm_exe_file() to fget_light() switch xfs_find_handle() to fget_light() switch xfs_swapext() to fget_light() ...
2012-10-02fs: push rcu_barrier() from deactivate_locked_super() to filesystemsKirill A. Shutemov
There's no reason to call rcu_barrier() on every deactivate_locked_super(). We only need to make sure that all delayed rcu free inodes are flushed before we destroy related cache. Removing rcu_barrier() from deactivate_locked_super() affects some fast paths. E.g. on my machine exit_group() of a last process in IPC namespace takes 0.07538s. rcu_barrier() takes 0.05188s of that time. Signed-off-by: Kirill A. boolean "does it have to be exclusive?" flag is passed instead; Local filesystem should just ignore it - the object is guaranteed not to be there yet. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
