If a NFSv4 client uses the cache_consistency_bitmask in order to
request only information about the change attribute, timestamps and
size, then it has not revalidated all attributes, and hence the
attribute timeout timestamp should not be updated.

Setting the change attribute has been mandatory for all NFS versions, since
commit 3a1556e8662c ("NFSv2/v3: Simulate the change attribute"). We should
therefore not have anything be conditional on it being set/unset.

If we pass in an empty nfs_fattr struct to nfs_update_inode, it will
(correctly) not update any of the attributes, but it then clears the
NFS_INO_INVALID_ATTR flag, which indicates that the attributes are
up to date. Don't clear the flag if the fattr struct has no valid
attrs to apply.

If clp->cl_cb_ident is zero, then nfs_cb_idr_remove_locked() skips removing
it when the nfs_client is freed. A decoding or server bug can then find
and try to put that first nfs_client which would lead to a crash.

Now that we have file locking helpers that can deal with an inode
instead of a filp, we can change the NFSv4 locking code to use that
instead.
This should fix the case where we have a filp that is closed while flock
or OFD locks are set on it, and the task is signaled so that it doesn't
wait for the LOCKU reply to come in before the filp is freed. At that
point we can end up with a use-after-free with the current code, which
relies on dereferencing the fl_file in the lock request.

If all other conditions in nfs_can_extend_write() are met, and there
are no locks, then we should be able to assume close-to-open semantics
and the ability to extend our write to cover the whole page.
With this patch, the xfstests generic/074 test completes in 242s instead
of >1400s on my test rig.

We really want sizeof(struct page *) instead. Otherwise we limit
maximum IO size to 64 pages rather than 512 pages on a 64bit system.

According to RFC5661 Section 18.2.4, CLOSE is supposed to return
the zero stateid. This means that nfs_clear_open_stateid_locked()
cannot assume that the result stateid will always match the 'other'
field of the existing open stateid when trying to determine a race
with a parallel OPEN.
Instead, we look at the argument, and check for matches.

According to the flexfiles protocol, the layoutreturn should specify an
array of errors in the following format:

This patch fixes up the code to ensure that our ffie_errors is indeed
encoded as an array (albeit with only a single entry).

If the ctime or mtime or change attribute have changed because
of an operation we initiated, we should make sure that we force
an attribute update. However we do not want to mark the page cache
for revalidation.

We should ensure that we always set the pgio_header's error field
if a READ or WRITE RPC call returns an error. The current code depends
on 'hdr->good_bytes' always being initialised to a large value, which
is not always done correctly by callers.
When this happens, applications may end up missing important errors.

- Switch back to using list_for_each_entry(). Fixes an incorrect test
for list NULL termination.
- Do not assume that lists are sorted.
- Finally, consider an existing entry to match if it consists of a subset
of the addresses in the new entry.

Chuck reports seeing cases where a GETATTR that happens to race
with an asynchronous WRITE is overriding the file size, despite
the attribute barrier being set by the writeback code.
The culprit turns out to be the check in nfs_ctime_need_update(),
which sees that the ctime is newer than the cached ctime, and
assumes that it is safe to override the attribute barrier.
This patch removes that override, and ensures that attribute
barriers are always respected.

It is unusual to combine the open flags O_RDONLY and O_EXCL, but
it appears that libre-office does just that.

NFSv4 takes O_EXCL as a sign that a setattr command should be sent,
probably to reset the timestamps.
When it was an O_RDONLY open, the SETATTR command does not
identify any actual attributes to change.
If no delegation was provided to the open, the SETATTR uses the
all-zeros stateid and the request is accepted (at least by the
Linux NFS server - no harm, no foul).
If a read-delegation was provided, this is used in the SETATTR
request, and a Netapp filer will justifiably claim
NFS4ERR_BAD_STATEID, which the Linux client takes as a sign
to retry - indefinitely.
So only treat O_EXCL specially if O_CREAT was also given.

pNFS writes don't return attributes, however that doesn't mean that we
should ignore the fact that they may be extending the file. This patch
ensures that if a write is seen to extend the file, then we always set
an attribute barrier, and update the cached file size.

A ds can be associated with more than one mirror, but we currently skip
setting a mirror's credentials if we find that it's already set up with
a connected client.
The upshot is that we can end up sending DS writes with MDS credentials
instead of properly setting them up. Fix nfs4_ff_layout_prepare_ds to
always verify that the mirror's credentials are set up, even when we
have a DS that's already connected.

If we have two tasks racing to update a mirror's credentials, then they
can end up leaking one (or more) sets of credentials. The first task
will set mirror->cred and then the second task will just overwrite it.
Use a cmpxchg to ensure that the creds are only set once. If we get to
the point where we would set mirror->cred and find that they're already
set, then we just release the creds that were just found.

Problem: When an operation like WRITE receives a BAD_STATEID, even though
recovery code clears the RECLAIM_NOGRACE recovery flag before recovering
the open state, because of clearing delegation state for the associated
inode, nfs_inode_find_state_and_recover() gets called and it makes the
same state with RECLAIM_NOGRACE flag again. As a results, when we restart
looking over the open states, we end up in the infinite loop instead of
breaking out in the next test of state flags.
Solution: unset the RECLAIM_NOGRACE set because of
calling of nfs_inode_find_state_and_recover() after returning from calling
recover_open() function.

When encoding the NFSACL SETACL operation, reserve just the estimated
size of the ACL rather than a fixed maximum. This eliminates needless
zero padding on the wire that the server ignores.

pnfs_do_write() expects the call to pnfs_write_through_mds() to free the
pgio header and to release the layout segment before exiting. The problem
is that nfs_pgio_data_destroy() doesn't actually do this; it only frees
the memory allocated by nfs_generic_pgio().
Ditto for pnfs_do_read()...
Fix in both cases is to add a call to hdr->release(hdr).

"Running locktests with a large number of iterations resulted in a
client crash. The test run took a while and hasn't finished after close
to 2 hours. The crash happened right after I gave up and killed the test
(after 107m) with Ctrl+C."
The crash happened because a NULL inode pointer got passed into
locks_get_lock_context. The call chain indicates that file_inode(filp)
returned NULL, which means that f_inode was NULL. Since that's zeroed
out in __fput, that suggests that this filp pointer outlived the last
reference.
Looking at the code, that seems possible. We copy the struct file_lock
that's passed in, but if the task is signalled at an inopportune time we
can end up trying to use that file_lock in rpciod context after the process
that requested it has already returned (and possibly put its filp
reference).
Fix this by taking an extra reference to the filp when we allocate the
lock info, and put it in nfs4_lock_release.

When running the Connectathon basic tests against a Solaris NFS
server over NFSv4.0, test5 reports that stat(2) returns a file size
of zero instead of 1MB.
On success, nfs_commit_inode() can return a positive result; see
other call sites such as nfs_file_fsync_commit() and
nfs_commit_unstable_pages().
The call site recently added in nfs_wb_all() does not prevent that
positive return value from leaking to its callers. If it leaks
through nfs_sync_inode() back to nfs_getattr(), that causes stat(2)
to return a positive return value to user space while also not
filling in the passed-in struct stat.
Additional clean up: the new logic in nfs_wb_all() is rewritten in
bfields-normal form.

do_blockdev_direct_IO() increments and decrements the inode
->i_dio_count for each IO operation. It does this to protect against
truncate of a file. Block devices don't need this sort of protection.
For a capable multiqueue setup, this atomic int is the only shared
state between applications accessing the device for O_DIRECT, and it
presents a scaling wall for that. In my testing, as much as 30% of
system time is spent incrementing and decrementing this value. A mixed
read/write workload improved from ~2.5M IOPS to ~9.6M IOPS, with
better latencies too. Before:

The more applications accessing the device, the worse it gets.
Add a new direct-io flags, DIO_SKIP_DIO_COUNT, which tells
do_blockdev_direct_IO() that it need not worry about incrementing
or decrementing the inode i_dio_count for this caller.

The brand new GCC 5.1.0 warns by default on using a boolean in the
switch condition. This results in the following warning:

Since commit 5a254d08b086 ("nfs: replace nfs_add_stats with
nfs_inc_stats when add one"), nfs_readpage and nfs_do_writepage use
nfs_inc_stats to increment NFSIOS_READPAGES and NFSIOS_WRITEPAGES
instead of nfs_add_stats.
However nfs_inc_stats does not do the same thing as nfs_add_stats with
value 1 because these functions work on distinct stats:
nfs_inc_stats increments stats from "enum nfs_stat_eventcounters" (in
server->io_stats->events) and nfs_add_stats those from "enum
nfs_stat_bytecounters" (in server->io_stats->bytes).

need to be in the global include path. I also renamed it from
nfs_idmap.h to nfs4idmap.h to emphasize that it's an NFSv4-only include
file.

d4b18c3e (pnfs: remove GETDEVICELIST implementation) removed the
GETDEVICELIST operation from the NFS client, but left a "hole" in the
nfs4_procedures array. This caused /proc/self/mountstats to report an
operation named "51" where GETDEVICELIST used to be. This patch adds a
stub to fix mountstats.

For flexfiles driver, we might choose to read from mirror index other
than 0 while mirror_count is always 1 for read.

For direct read that has IO size larger than rsize, we'll split
it into several READ requests and nfs_direct_good_bytes() would
count completed bytes incorrectly by eating last zero count reply.
Fix it by handling mirror and non-mirror cases differently such that
we only count mirrored writes differently.
This fixes 5fadeb47("nfs: count DIO good bytes correctly with mirroring").

2ef47eb1 (NFS: Fix use of nfs_attr_use_mounted_on_fileid()) was a good
start to fixing a circular directory structure warning for NFS v4
"junctioned" mountpoints. Unfortunately, further testing continued to
generate this error.
My server is configured like this:

I've been running chown across the entire mountpoint twice in a row to
hit this problem. The first run succeeds, but the second one fails with
the circular directory warning along with:
anna@client ~ % dmesg
[Apr 3 14:28] NFS: server 192.168.100.204 error: fileid changed
fsid 0:39: expected fileid 0x100080, got 0x80
WHere 0x80 is the mountpoint's fileid and 0x100080 is the mounted-on
fileid.
This patch fixes the issue by requesting an updated mounted-on fileid
from the server during nfs_update_inode(), and then checking that the
fileid stored in the nfs_inode matches either the fileid or mounted-on
fileid returned by the server.
