commit b81b79f4eda2ea98ae5695c0b6eb384c8d90b74d upstream. Add a new wrapper to check if a file system supports the v3 inode format with a larger dinode core. Previously we used xfs_sb_version_hascrc for that, which is technically correct but a little confusing to read. Also move xfs_dinode_good_version next to xfs_sb_version_has_v3inode so that we have one place that documents the superblock version to inode version relationship. 2022-09-28xfs: don't commit sunit/swidth updates to disk if that would cause repair ↵Darrick J. Wong
failures commit 13eaec4b2adf2657b8167b67e27c97cc7314d923 upstream. Alex Lyakas reported[1] that mounting an xfs filesystem with new sunit and swidth values could cause xfs_repair to fail loudly. The problem here is that repair calculates the where mkfs should have allocated the root inode, based on the superblock geometry. The allocation decisions depend on sunit, which means that we really can't go updating sunit if it would lead to a subsequent repair failure on an otherwise correct filesystem. Port from xfs_repair some code that computes the location of the root inode and teach mount to skip the ondisk update if it would cause problems for repair. Along the way we'll update the documentation, provide a function for computing the minimum AGFL size instead of open-coding it, and cut down some indenting in the mount code. Note that we allow the mount to proceed (and new allocations will reflect this new geometry) because we've never screened this kind of thing before. We'll have to wait for a new future incompat feature to enforce correct behavior, alas. Note that the geometry reporting always uses the superblock values, not the incore ones, so that is what xfs_info and xfs_growfs will report. 2020-09-17xfs: fix off-by-one in inode alloc block reservation calculationBrian Foster
[ Upstream commit 657f101930bc6c5b41bd7d6c22565c4302a80d33 ] The inode chunk allocation transaction reserves inobt_maxlevels-1 blocks to accommodate a full split of the inode btree. A full split requires an allocation for every existing level and a new root block, which means inobt_maxlevels is the worst case block requirement for a transaction that inserts to the inobt. This can lead to a transaction block reservation overrun when tmpfile creation allocates an inode chunk and expands the inobt to its maximum depth. This problem has been observed in conjunction with overlayfs, which makes frequent use of tmpfiles internally. The existing reservation code goes back as far as the Linux git repo history (v2.6.12). It was likely never observed as a problem because the traditional file/directory creation transactions also include worst case block reservation for directory modifications, which most likely is able to make up for a single block deficiency in the inode allocation portion of the calculation. tmpfile support is relatively more recent (v3.15), less heavily used, and only includes the inode allocation block reservation as tmpfiles aren't linked into the directory tree on creation. Fix up the inode alloc block reservation macro and a couple of the block allocator minleft parameters that enforce an allocation to leave enough free blocks in the AG for a full inobt split. 2019-08-28xfs: fix maxicount division by zero errorDarrick J. Wong
In xfs_ialloc_setup_geometry, it's possible for a malicious/corrupt fs image to set an unreasonably large value for sb_inopblog which will cause ialloc_blks to be zero. If sb_imax_pct is also set, this results in a division by zero error in the second do_div call. Therefore, force maxicount to zero if ialloc_blks is zero. Note that the kernel metadata verifiers will catch the garbage inopblog value and abort the fs mount long before it tries to set up the inode geometry; this is needed to avoid a crash in xfs_db while setting up the xfs_mount structure. 2019-06-28xfs: remove unused header filesEric Sandeen
There are many, many xfs header files which are included but unneeded (or included twice) in the xfs code, so remove them. nb: xfs_linux.h includes about 9 headers for everyone, so those explicit includes get removed by this. I'm not sure what the preference is, but if we wanted explicit includes everywhere, a followup patch could remove those xfs_*.h includes from xfs_linux.h and move them into the files that need them. 2019-06-12xfs: fix inode_cluster_size rounding mayhemDarrick J. Wong
inode_cluster_size is supposed to represent the size (in bytes) of an inode cluster buffer. We avoid having to handle multiple clusters per filesystem block on filesystems with large blocks by openly rounding this value up to 1 FSB when necessary. However, we never reset inode_cluster_size to reflect this new rounded value, which adds to the potential for mistakes in calculating geometries. Fix this by setting inode_cluster_size to reflect the rounded-up size if needed, and special-case the few places in the sparse inodes code where we actually need the smaller value to validate on-disk metadata. The majority of remaining references to struct xfs_defer_ops in XFS are associated with xfs_defer_add(). At this point, there are no more external xfs_defer_ops users left. All instances of xfs_defer_ops are embedded in the transaction, which means we can safely pass the transaction down to the dfops add interface. Update xfs_defer_add() to receive the transaction as a parameter. Various subsystems implement wrappers to allocate and construct the context specific data structures for the associated deferred operation type. Update these to also carry the transaction down as needed and clean up unused dfops parameters along the way. This removes most of the remaining references to struct xfs_defer_ops throughout the code and facilitates removal of the structure. New verification functions like xfs_verify_fsbno() and xfs_verify_agino() are spread across multiple files and different header files. They really don't fit cleanly into the places they've been put, and have wider scope than the current header includes. Move the type verifiers to a new file in libxfs (xfs-types.c) and the prototypes to xfs_types.h where they will be visible to all the code that uses the types. By splitting the b_fspriv field into two different fields (b_log_item and b_li_list). It's possible to get rid of an old ABI workaround, by using the new b_log_item field to store xfs_buf_log_item separated from the log items attached to the buffer, which will be linked in the new b_li_list field. This way, there is no more need to reorder the log items list to place the buf_log_item at the beginning of the list, simplifying a bit the logic to handle buffer IO. This also opens the possibility to change buffer's log items list into a proper list_head. b_log_item field is still defined as a void *, because it is still used by the log buffers to store xlog_in_core structures, and there is no need to add an extra field on xfs_buf just for xlog_in_core. 2017-12-08xfs: remove "no-allocation" reservations for file creationsChristoph Hellwig
If we create a new file we will need an inode, and usually some metadata in the parent direction. Aiming for everything to go well despite the lack of a reservation leads to dirty transactions cancelled under a heavy create/delete load. This patch removes those nospace transactions, which will lead to slightly earlier ENOSPC on some workloads, but instead prevent file system shutdowns due to cancelling dirty transactions for others. 2017-09-01xfs: don't log dirty ranges for ordered buffersBrian Foster
Ordered buffers are attached to transactions and pushed through the logging infrastructure just like normal buffers with the exception that they are not actually written to the log. Therefore, we don't need to log dirty ranges of ordered buffers. xfs_trans_log_buf() is called on ordered buffers to set up all of the dirty state on the transaction, buffer and log item and prepare the buffer for I/O. Now that xfs_trans_dirty_buf() is available, call it from xfs_trans_ordered_buf() so the latter is now mutually exclusive with xfs_trans_log_buf(). This reflects the implementation of ordered buffers and helps eliminate confusion over the need to log ranges of ordered buffers just to set up internal log state. 2017-08-22xfs: stop searching for free slots in an inode chunk when there are noneCarlos Maiolino
In a filesystem without finobt, the Space manager selects an AG to alloc a new inode, where xfs_dialloc_ag_inobt() will search the AG for the free slot chunk. When the new inode is in the same AG as its parent, the btree will be searched starting on the parent's record, and then retried from the top if no slot is available beyond the parent's record. To exit this loop though, xfs_dialloc_ag_inobt() relies on the fact that the btree must have a free slot available, once its callers relied on the agi->freecount when deciding how/where to allocate this new inode. In the case when the agi->freecount is corrupted, showing available inodes in an AG, when in fact there is none, this becomes an infinite loop. Add a way to stop the loop when a free slot is not found in the btree, making the function to fall into the whole AG scan which will then, be able to detect the corruption and shut the filesystem down. As pointed by Brian, this might impact performance, giving the fact we don't reset the search distance anymore when we reach the end of the tree, giving it fewer tries before falling back to the whole AG search, but it will only affect searches that start within 10 records to the end of the tree. 2017-08-11xfs: fix inobt inode allocation search optimizationOmar Sandoval
When we try to allocate a free inode by searching the inobt, we try to find the inode nearest the parent inode by searching chunks both left and right of the chunk containing the parent. As an optimization, we cache the leftmost and rightmost records that we previously searched; if we do another allocation with the same parent inode, we'll pick up the search where it last left off. There's a bug in the case where we found a free inode to the left of the parent's chunk: we need to update the cached left and right records, but because we already reassigned the right record to point to the left, we end up assigning the left record to both the cached left and right records. This isn't a correctness problem strictly, but it can result in the next allocation rechecking chunks unnecessarily or allocating inodes further away from the parent than it needs to. Fix it by swapping the record pointer after we update the cached left and right records. Also, mkfs.xfs would have set xfs_sb->sb_inoalignmt to 0. This causes xfs_ialloc_cluster_alignment() to return 0. 2016-08-03xfs: add owner field to extent allocation and freeingDarrick J. Wong
For the rmap btree to work, we have to feed the extent owner information to the the allocation and freeing functions. This information is what will end up in the rmap btree that tracks allocated extents. While we technically don't need the owner information when freeing extents, passing it allows us to validate that the extent we are removing from the rmap btree actually belonged to the owner we expected it to belong to. We also define a special set of owner values for internal metadata that would otherwise have no owner. This allows us to tell the difference between metadata owned by different per-ag btrees, as well as static fs metadata (e.g. AG headers) and internal journal blocks. There are also a couple of special cases we need to take care of - during EFI recovery, we don't actually know who the original owner was, so we need to pass a wildcard to indicate that we aren't checking the owner for validity. We also need special handling in growfs, as we "free" the space in the last AG when extending it, but because it's new space it has no actual owner... While touching the xfs_bmap_add_free() function, re-order the parameters to put the struct xfs_mount first. Extend the owner field to include both the owner type and some sort of index within the owner. The index field will be used to support reverse mappings when reflink is enabled. When we're freeing extents from an EFI, we don't have the owner information available (rmap updates have their own redo items). xfs_free_extent therefore doesn't need to do an rmap update. Make sure that the log replay code signals this correctly. This is based upon a patch originally from Dave Chinner. It has been extended to add more owner information with the intent of helping recovery operations when things go wrong (e.g. offset of user data block in a file).
