2017-12-20writeback: fix memory leak in wb_queue_work()Tahsin Erdogan
[ Upstream commit 4a3a485b1ed0e109718cc8c9d094fa0f552de9b2 ] When WB_registered flag is not set, wb_queue_work() skips queuing the work, but does not perform the necessary clean up. In particular, if work->auto_free is true, it should free the memory. The leak condition can be reprouced by following these steps: mount /dev/sdb /mnt/sdb /* In qemu console: device_del sdb */ umount /dev/sdb Above will result in a wb_queue_work() call on an unregistered wb and thus leak memory. 2017-12-20NFSD: fix nfsd_reset_versions for NFSv4.NeilBrown
[ Upstream commit 800a938f0bf9130c8256116649c0cc5806bfb2fd ] If you write "-2 -3 -4" to the "versions" file, it will notice that no versions are enabled, and nfsd_reset_versions() is called. This enables all major versions, not no minor versions. So we lose the invariant that NFSv4 is only advertised when at least one minor is enabled. [ Upstream commit 6bbc4a4144b1a69743022ac68dfaf6e7d993abb9 ] __do_fault assumes vmf->page has been initialized and is valid if VM_FAULT_NOPAGE is not returned by vma->vm_ops->fault(vma, vmf). handle_userfault() in turn should return VM_FAULT_NOPAGE if it doesn't return VM_FAULT_SIGBUS or VM_FAULT_RETRY (the other two possibilities). This VM_FAULT_NOPAGE case is only invoked when signal are pending and it didn't matter for anonymous memory before. It only started to matter since shmem was introduced. hugetlbfs also takes a different path and doesn't exercise __do_fault. This causes 'nblocks' to have a value of zero. ext4_bread_batch() ends up not reading any of the directory file's blocks. This renders the entries in bh_use[] array to continue to have garbage data. buffer_uptodate() on bh_use[0] can then return a zero value upon which brelse() function is invoked. This commit fixes the bug by returning -ENOENT when the directory file has no associated blocks. 2017-12-20ext4: fix fdatasync(2) after fallocate(2) operationEryu Guan

Currently, fallocate(2) with KEEP_SIZE followed by a fdatasync(2) then crash, we'll see wrong allocated block number (stat -c %b), the blocks allocated beyond EOF are all lost. fstests generic/468 exposes this bug. Commit 67a7d5f561f4 ("ext4: fix fdatasync(2) after extent manipulation operations") fixed all the other extent manipulation operation paths such as hole punch, zero range, collapse range etc., but forgot the fallocate case. So similarly, fix it by recording the correct journal tid in ext4 inode in fallocate(2) path, so that ext4_sync_file() will wait for the right tid to be committed on fdatasync(2). This addresses the test failure in xfstests test generic/468. 2017-12-09NFSv4: Fix client recovery when server reboots multiple timesTrond Myklebust
[ Upstream commit c6180a6237174f481dc856ed6e890d8196b6f0fb ] If the server reboots multiple times, the client should rely on the server to tell it that it cannot reclaim state as per section 9.6.3.4 in RFC7530 and section 8.4.2.1 in RFC5661. Currently, the client is being to conservative, and is assuming that if the server reboots while state recovery is in progress, then it must ignore state that was not recovered before the reboot. 2017-12-09nfs: Don't take a reference on fl->fl_file for LOCK operationBenjamin Coddington
[ Upstream commit 4b09ec4b14a168bf2c687e1f598140c3c11e9222 ] I have reports of a crash that look like __fput() was called twice for a NFSv4.0 file. It seems possible that the state manager could try to reclaim a lock and take a reference on the fl->fl_file at the same time the file is being released if, during the close(), a signal interrupts the wait for outstanding IO while removing locks which then skips the removal of that lock. Since 83bfff23e9ed ("nfs4: have do_vfs_lock take an inode pointer") has removed the need to traverse fl->fl_file->f_inode in nfs4_lock_done(), taking that reference is no longer necessary. Use sget_userns and force &init_user_ns instead of calling sget so that even if called from a weird context the internal filesystem will be considered to be in the intial user namespace. Luis Ressel reported that the the failure to pass MS_KERNMOUNT into mount_pseudo broke his in development graphics driver that uses the generic drm infrastructure. I am not certain the deriver was bug free in it's usage of that infrastructure but since mount_pseudo_xattr can never be triggered by userspace it is clearer and less error prone, and less problematic for the code to be explicit. 2017-12-09dax: Avoid page invalidation races and unnecessary radix tree traversalsJan Kara
[ Upstream commit e3fce68cdbed297d927e993b3ea7b8b1cee545da ] Currently dax_iomap_rw() takes care of invalidating page tables and evicting hole pages from the radix tree when write(2) to the file happens. This invalidation is only necessary when there is some block allocation resulting from write(2). Furthermore in current place the invalidation is racy wrt page fault instantiating a hole page just after we have invalidated it. So perform the page invalidation inside dax_iomap_actor() where we can do it only when really necessary and after blocks have been allocated so nobody will be instantiating new hole pages anymore. 2017-12-05NFS: revalidate "." etc correctly on "open".NeilBrown
commit b688741cb06695312f18b730653d6611e1bad28d upstream. For correct close-to-open semantics, NFS must validate the change attribute of a directory (or file) on open. Since commit ecf3d1f1aa74 ("vfs: kill FS_REVAL_DOT by adding a d_weak_revalidate dentry op"), open() of "." or a path ending ".." is not revalidated reliably (except when that direct is a mount point). Prior to that commit, "." was revalidated using nfs_lookup_revalidate() which checks the LOOKUP_OPEN flag and forces revalidation if the flag is set. Since that commit, nfs_weak_revalidate() is used for NFSv3 (which ignores the flags) and nothing is used for NFSv4. This is fixed by using nfs_lookup_verify_inode() in nfs_weak_revalidate(). This does the revalidation exactly when needed. Also, add a definition of .d_weak_revalidate for NFSv4. The incorrect behavior is easily demonstrated by running "echo *" in some non-mountpoint NFS directory while watching network traffic. Without this patch, "echo *" sometimes doesn't produce any traffic. With the patch it always does. From kernel 4.9, my two nfsv4 servers sometimes suffer from "panic: unable to handle kernel page request" in posix_unblock_lock() called from nfs4_laundromat(). These panics diseappear if we revert the commit "nfsd: add a LRU list for blocked locks". The cause appears to be a typo in nfs4_laundromat(), which is also present in nfs4_state_shutdown_net(). 2017-12-05nfsd: Fix another OPEN stateid raceTrond Myklebust

If nfsd4_process_open2() is initialising a new stateid, and yet the call to nfs4_get_vfs_file() fails for some reason, then we must declare the stateid closed, and unhash it before dropping the mutex. Right now, we unhash the stateid after dropping the mutex, and without changing the stateid type, meaning that another OPEN could theoretically look it up and attempt to use it. In order to avoid reusing such a stateid, and confusing the client, we need to recheck the nfs4_stid's type after taking the mutex. Otherwise, we risk reusing an old stateid that was already closed, which will confuse clients that expect new stateids to conform to RFC7530 Sections 9.1.4.2 and 16.2.5 or RFC5661 Sections 8.2.2 and 18.2.4. 2017-12-05btrfs: clear space cache inode generation alwaysJosef Bacik
commit 8e138e0d92c6c9d3d481674fb14e3439b495be37 upstream. We discovered a box that had double allocations, and suspected the space cache may be to blame. While auditing the write out path I noticed that if we've already setup the space cache we will just carry on. This means that any error we hit after cache_save_setup before we go to actually write the cache out we won't reset the inode generation, so whatever was already written will be considered correct, except it'll be stale. Fix this by _always_ resetting the generation on the block group inode, this way we only ever have valid or invalid cache. With this patch I was no longer able to reproduce cache corruption with dm-log-writes and my bpf error injection tool. This is more descriptive than EINVAL, which was ambiguous with some of the other error cases. I am not aware of any users who might be relying on the previous error code of EINVAL, which was never documented anywhere, and in some buggy kernels did not exist at all as the S_ISDIR() check was missing. This failure case will be exercised by an xfstest. 2017-11-30fscrypt: use ENOKEY when file cannot be created w/o keyEric Biggers
[ Upstream commit 54475f531bb8d7078f63c159e5e0615d486c498c ] As part of an effort to clean up fscrypt-related error codes, make attempting to create a file in an encrypted directory that hasn't been "unlocked" fail with ENOKEY. Previously, several error codes were used for this case, including ENOENT, EACCES, and EPERM, and they were not consistent between and within filesystems. ENOKEY is a better choice because it expresses that the failure is due to lacking the encryption key. It also matches the error code returned when trying to open an encrypted regular file without the key. I am not aware of any users who might be relying on the previous inconsistent error codes, which were never documented anywhere. This failure case will be exercised by an xfstest. 2017-11-30fscrypt: lock mutex before checking for bounce page poolEric Biggers
commit a0b3bc855374c50b5ea85273553485af48caf2f7 upstream. fscrypt_initialize(), which allocates the global bounce page pool when an encrypted file is first accessed, uses "double-checked locking" to try to avoid locking fscrypt_init_mutex. However, it doesn't use any memory barriers, so it's theoretically possible for a thread to observe a bounce page pool which has not been fully initialized. This is a classic bug with "double-checked locking". While "only a theoretical issue" in the latest kernel, in pre-4.8 kernels the pointer that was checked was not even the last to be initialized, so it was easily possible for a crash (NULL pointer dereference) to happen. This was changed only incidentally by the large refactor to use fs/crypto/. Solve both problems in a trivial way that can easily be backported: just always take the mutex. It's theoretically less efficient, but it shouldn't be noticeable in practice as the mutex is only acquired very briefly once per encrypted file. Later I'd like to make this use a helper macro like DO_ONCE(). However, DO_ONCE() runs in atomic context, so we'd need to add a new macro that allows blocking. 2017-11-30ext4: fix interaction between i_size, fallocate, and delalloc after a crashTheodore Ts'o

If there are pending writes subject to delayed allocation, then i_size will show size after the writes have completed, while i_disksize contains the value of i_size on the disk (since the writes have not been persisted to disk). If fallocate(2) is called with the FALLOC_FL_KEEP_SIZE flag, either with or without the FALLOC_FL_ZERO_RANGE flag set, and the new size after the fallocate(2) is between i_size and i_disksize, then after a crash, if a journal commit has resulted in the changes made by the fallocate() call to be persisted after a crash, but the delayed allocation write has not resolved itself, i_size would not be updated, and this would cause the following e2fsck complaint: Inode 12, end of extent exceeds allowed value (logical block 33, physical block 33441, len 7) This can only take place on a sparse file, where the fallocate(2) call is allocating blocks in a range which is before a pending delayed allocation write which is extending i_size. Since this situation is quite rare, and the window in which the crash must take place is typically < 30 seconds, in practice this condition will rarely happen. Nevertheless, it can be triggered in testing, and in particular by xfstests generic/456. If a delegation has been revoked by the server, operations using that delegation should error out with NFS4ERR_DELEG_REVOKED in the >4.1 case, and NFS4ERR_BAD_STATEID otherwise. The server needs NFSv4.1 clients to explicitly free revoked delegations. If the server returns NFS4ERR_DELEG_REVOKED, the client will do that; otherwise it may just forget about the delegation and be unable to recover when it later sees SEQ4_STATUS_RECALLABLE_STATE_REVOKED set on a SEQUENCE reply. 2017-11-30isofs: fix timestamps beyond 2027Arnd Bergmann

On architectures that use a signed char type by default, this results in an invalid date for anything beyond 2027. This changes the function argument to a 'u8' array, which is defined the same way on all architectures, and unambiguously lets us use years until 2155. This should be backported to all kernels that might still be in use by that date. 2017-11-30nilfs2: fix race condition that causes file system corruptionAndreas Rohner
commit 31ccb1f7ba3cfe29631587d451cf5bb8ab593550 upstream. There is a race condition between nilfs_dirty_inode() and nilfs_set_file_dirty(). When a file is opened, nilfs_dirty_inode() is called to update the access timestamp in the inode. It calls __nilfs_mark_inode_dirty() in a separate transaction. __nilfs_mark_inode_dirty() caches the ifile buffer_head in the i_bh field of the inode info structure and marks it as dirty. After some data was written to the file in another transaction, the function nilfs_set_file_dirty() is called, which adds the inode to the ns_dirty_files list. Then the segment construction calls nilfs_segctor_collect_dirty_files(), which goes through the ns_dirty_files list and checks the i_bh field. If there is a cached buffer_head in i_bh it is not marked as dirty again. Since nilfs_dirty_inode() and nilfs_set_file_dirty() use separate transactions, it is possible that a segment construction that writes out the ifile occurs in-between the two. If this happens the inode is not on the ns_dirty_files list, but its ifile block is still marked as dirty and written out. In the next segment construction, the data for the file is written out and nilfs_bmap_propagate() updates the b-tree. Eventually the bmap root is written into the i_bh block, which is not dirty, because it was written out in another segment construction. As a result the bmap update can be lost, which leads to file system corruption. Either the virtual block address points to an unallocated DAT block, or the DAT entry will be reused for something different. The error can remain undetected for a long time. A typical error message would be one of the "bad btree" errors or a warning that a DAT entry could not be found. This bug can be reproduced reliably by a simple benchmark that creates and overwrites millions of 4k files. 2017-11-30autofs: don't fail mount for transient errorNeilBrown

Currently if the autofs kernel module gets an error when writing to the pipe which links to the daemon, then it marks the whole moutpoint as catatonic, and it will stop working. It is possible that the error is transient. This can happen if the daemon is slow and more than 16 requests queue up. If a subsequent process tries to queue a request, and is then signalled, the write to the pipe will return -ERESTARTSYS and autofs will take that as total failure. So change the code to assess -ERESTARTSYS and -ENOMEM as transient failures which only abort the current request, not the whole mountpoint. It isn't a crash or a data corruption, but having autofs mountpoints suddenly stop working is rather inconvenient. 2017-11-24coda: fix 'kernel memory exposure attempt' in fsyncJan Harkes

When an application called fsync on a file in Coda a small request with just the file identifier was allocated, but the declared length was set to the size of union of all possible upcall requests. This bug has been around for a very long time and is now caught by the extra checking in usercopy that was introduced in Linux-4.8. The exposure happens when the Coda cache manager process reads the fsync upcall request at which point it is killed. As a result there is nobody servicing any further upcalls, trapping any processes that try to access the mounted Coda filesystem. 2017-11-24ocfs2: fix cluster hang after a node diesChangwei Ge

As for ocfs2/dlm implementation, this is done by function - dlm_move_lockres_to_recovery_list which marks those lock rsources as DLM_LOCK_RES_RECOVERING and manages them via a list from which DLM changes lock resource's master later. So without invoking dlm_move_lockres_to_recovery_list, no master will be choosed after dlm recovery accomplishment since no lock resource can be found through ::resource list. What's worse is that if DLM_LOCK_RES_RECOVERING is not marked for lock resources mastered a dead node, it will break up synchronization among nodes. So invoke dlm_move_lockres_to_recovery_list again. 2017-11-08ext4: fix stripe-unaligned allocationsJan Kara
[ Upstream commit d9b22cf9f5466a057f2a4f1e642b469fa9d73117 ] When a filesystem is created using: mkfs.ext4 -b 4096 -E stride=512 <dev> and we try to allocate 64MB extent, we will end up directly in ext4_mb_complex_scan_group(). This is because the request is detected as power-of-two allocation (so we start in ext4_mb_regular_allocator() with ac_criteria == 0) however the check before ext4_mb_simple_scan_group() refuses the direct buddy scan because the allocation request is too large. Since cr == 0, the check whether we should use ext4_mb_scan_aligned() fails as well and we fall back to ext4_mb_complex_scan_group(). Fix the problem by checking for upper limit on power-of-two requests directly when detecting them. 2017-11-08ocfs2: fstrim: Fix start offset of first cluster group during fstrimAshish Samant
commit 105ddc93f06ebe3e553f58563d11ed63dbcd59f0 upstream. The first cluster group descriptor is not stored at the start of the group but at an offset from the start. We need to take this into account while doing fstrim on the first cluster group. Otherwise we will wrongly start fstrim a few blocks after the desired start block and the range can cross over into the next cluster group and zero out the group descriptor there. This can cause filesytem corruption that cannot be fixed by fsck. 2017-11-02ecryptfs: fix dereference of NULL user_key_payloadEric Biggers

In eCryptfs, we failed to verify that the authentication token keys are not revoked before dereferencing their payloads, which is problematic because the payload of a revoked key is NULL. request_key() *does* skip revoked keys, but there is still a window where the key can be revoked before we acquire the key semaphore. Fix it by updating ecryptfs_get_key_payload_data() to return -EKEYREVOKED if the key payload is NULL. For completeness we check this for "encrypted" keys as well as "user" keys, although encrypted keys cannot be revoked currently. Alternatively we could use key_validate(), but since we'll also need to fix ecryptfs_get_key_payload_data() to validate the payload length, it seems appropriate to just check the payload pointer. Marios Titas running a Haskell program noticed a problem with fuse's readdirplus: when it is interrupted by a signal, it skips one directory entry. The reason is that fuse erronously updates ctx->pos after a failed dir_emit(). The issue originates from the patch adding readdirplus support.
