2012-11-28atm: add owner of push() callback to atmvccKrzysztof Mazur
The atm is using atmvcc->push(vcc, NULL) callback to notify protocol that vcc will be closed and protocol must detach from it. This callback is usually used by protocol to decrement module usage count by module_put(), but it leaves small window then module is still used after module_put(). Now the owner of push() callback is kept in atmvcc and module_put(atmvcc->owner) is called after the protocol is detached from vcc. This bug-fix makes sure that of_iomap is defined extern for sparc so that the sparc-specific implementation of_iomap is once again used when including include/linux/of_address.h in a sparc context. OF_GPIO that is now available for sparc relies on this. The bug was inadvertently introduced in a850a75, "of/address: add empty static inlines for !CONFIG_OF", that added a static dummy inline for of_iomap when !CONFIG_OF_ADDRESS. However, CONFIG_OF_ADDRESS is never defined for sparc, but there is a sparc-specific implementation /arch/sparc/kernel/of_device_common.c. This fix takes the same approach as 0bce04b that solved the equivalent problem for of_address_to_resource. - Current is implicitly avaiable so passing current->nsproxy isn't useful. - The ctl_table_header is needed to find how the sysctl table is connected to the rest of sysctl. - ctl_table_root is avaiable in the ctl_table_header so no need to it. With these changes it becomes possible to write a version of net_sysctl_permission that takes into account the network namespace of the sysctl table, an important feature in extending the user namespace. Revert commit 7f1290f2f2a4 ("mm: fix-up zone present pages") That patch tried to fix a issue when calculating zone->present_pages, but it caused a regression on 32bit systems with HIGHMEM. With that change, reset_zone_present_pages() resets all zone->present_pages to zero, and fixup_zone_present_pages() is called to recalculate zone->present_pages when the boot allocator frees core memory pages into buddy allocator. Because highmem pages are not freed by bootmem allocator, all highmem zones' present_pages becomes zero. Various options for improving the situation are being discussed but for now, let's return to the 3.6 code. 2012-11-16memcg: fix hotplugged memory zone oopsHugh Dickins
When MEMCG is configured on (even when it's disabled by boot option), when adding or removing a page to/from its lru list, the zone pointer used for stats updates is nowadays taken from the struct lruvec. (On many configurations, calculating zone from page is slower.) But we have no code to update all the lruvecs (per zone, per memcg) when a memory node is hotadded. The natural solution might be to use a memcg callback whenever memory is hotadded; but that solution has not been scoped out, and it happens that we do have an easy location at which to update lruvec->zone. The lruvec pointer is discovered either by mem_cgroup_zone_lruvec() or by mem_cgroup_page_lruvec(), and both of those do know the right zone. So check and set lruvec->zone in those; and remove the inadequate attempt to set lruvec->zone from lruvec_init(), which is called before NODE_DATA(node) has been allocated in such cases. Ah, there was one exceptionr. For no particularly good reason, mem_cgroup_force_empty_list() has its own code for deciding lruvec. Change it to use the standard mem_cgroup_zone_lruvec() and mem_cgroup_get_lru_size() too. In fact it was already safe against such an oops (the lru lists in danger could only be empty), but we're better proofed against future changes this way. I've marked this for stable (3.6) since we introduced the problem in 3.5 (now closed to stable); but I have no idea if this is the only fix needed to get memory hotadd working with memcg in 3.6, and received no answer when I enquired twice before. If enabled, the kernel will transmit an unsolicited neighbour advertisement on link-layer address change to update the neighbour tables of the corresponding hosts more quickly. Reported by Meelis Roos. 2) Make the montgomery multiple/square and mpmul instructions actually usable in 32-bit tasks. Essentially this involves providing 32-bit userspace with a way to use a 64-bit stack when it needs to. 3) Our sparc64 atomic backoffs don't yield cpu strands properly on Niagara chips. for sparc again This bug-fix makes sure that of_address_to_resource is defined extern for sparc so that the sparc-specific implementation of of_address_to_resource() is once again used when including include/linux/of_address.h in a sparc context. A number of drivers in mainline relies on this function working for sparc. The bug was introduced in a850a7554442f08d3e910c6eeb4ee216868dda1e, "of/address: add empty static inlines for !CONFIG_OF". Contrary to that commit title, the static inlines are added for !CONFIG_OF_ADDRESS, and CONFIG_OF_ADDRESS is never defined for sparc. This is good behavior for the other functions in include/linux/of_address.h, as the extern functions defined in drivers/of/address.c only gets linked when OF_ADDRESS is configured. 2012-11-07mmc: sdhci-of-esdhc: disable CMD23 for some Freescale SoCsJerry Huang
CMD23 causes lots of errors in kernel on some freescale SoCs (P1020, P1021, P1022, P1024, P1025 and P4080) when MMC card used, which is because these controllers does not support CMD23, even on the SoCs which declares CMD23 is supported. Therefore, we'll not use CMD23. Some years ago, the ktime_t helper functions ktime_now() and ktime_lt() have been introduced. Instead of defining them inside pktgen.c, they should either use ktime_t library functions or, if not available, they should be defined in ktime.h, so that also others can benefit from them. ktime_compare() is introduced with a similar notion as in timespec_compare(). Orphaning frags for zero copy skbs needs to allocate data in atomic context so is has a chance to fail. If it does we currently discard the skb which is safe, but we don't report anything to the caller, so it can not recover by e.g. disabling zero copy. Even if skb is marked for zero copy, net core might still decide to copy it later which is somewhat slower than a copy in user context: besides copying the data we need to pin/unpin the pages. Add a parameter reporting such cases through zero copy callback: if this happens a lot, device can take this into account and switch to copying in user context. This patch removes the timecompare code from the kernel. The top five reasons to do this are: 1. There are no more users of this code. 2. The original idea was a bit weak. 3. The original author has disappeared. 4. The code was not general purpose but tuned to a particular hardware, 5. There are better ways to accomplish clock synchronization.
