commit 2ac6bf4ddc87c3b6b609f8fa82f6ebbffeac12f4 upstream.
The ConnectX Programmer's Reference Manual states that the "SO" bit
must be set when posting Fast Register and Local Invalidate send work
requests. When this bit is set, the work request will be executed
only after all previous work requests on the send queue have been
executed. (If the bit is not set, Fast Register and Local Invalidate
WQEs may begin execution too early, which violates the defined
semantics for these operations)
This fixes the issue with NFS/RDMA reported in

commit 3b0fde0fac19c180317eb0601b3504083f4b9bf5 upstream.
Addresses http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13484
Peer reported:
| The bug is introduced from kernel 2.6.27, if E820 table reserve the memory
| above 4G in 32bit OS(BIOS-e820: 00000000fff80000 - 0000000120000000
| (reserved)), system will report Int 6 error and hang up. The bug is caused by
| the following code in drivers/firmware/memmap.c, the resource_size_t is 32bit
| variable in 32bit OS, the BUG_ON() will be invoked to result in the Int 6
| error. I try the latest 32bit Ubuntu and Fedora distributions, all hit this
| bug.
|======
|static int firmware_map_add_entry(resource_size_t start, resource_size_t end,
| const char *type,
| struct firmware_map_entry *entry)
and it only happen with CONFIG_PHYS_ADDR_T_64BIT is not set.
it turns out we need to pass u64 instead of resource_size_t for that.

commit 4576145c1ecdaaea9ef8976a48335206aa1ebf91 upstream.
When ptrace_detach() takes tasklist, the tracee can be SIGKILL'ed. If it
has already passed exit_notify() we can leak a zombie, because a) ptracing
disables the auto-reaping logic, and b) ->real_parent was not notified
about the child's death.
ptrace_detach() should follow the ptrace_exit's logic, change the code
accordingly.

commit b3c2d2ddd63944ef2a1e4a43077b602288107e01 upstream.
Split up __splice_from_pipe() into four helper functions:
splice_from_pipe_begin()
splice_from_pipe_next()
splice_from_pipe_feed()
splice_from_pipe_end()
splice_from_pipe_next() will wait (if necessary) for more buffers to
be added to the pipe. splice_from_pipe_feed() will feed the buffers
to the supplied actor and return when there's no more data available
(or if all of the requested data has been copied).
This is necessary so that implementations can do locking around the
non-waiting splice_from_pipe_feed().
This patch should not cause any change in behavior.

commit c2ec175c39f62949438354f603f4aa170846aabb upstream.
Change the page_mkwrite prototype to take a struct vm_fault, and return
VM_FAULT_xxx flags. There should be no functional change.
This makes it possible to return much more detailed error information to
the VM (and also can provide more information eg. virtual_address to the
driver, which might be important in some special cases).
This is required for a subsequent fix. And will also make it easier to
merge page_mkwrite() with fault() in future.

commit d9ad8bc0ca823705413f75b50c442a88cc518b35 upstream.
One of the changes between kernels 2.6.28 and 2.6.29 is that a branch profiler
has been added for if() statements. Unfortunately this patch makes the sparse
output unusable with CONFIG_TRACE_BRANCH_PROFILING=y: when branch profiling is
enabled, sparse prints so much false positives that the real issues are no
longer visible. This behavior can be reproduced as follows:
* enable CONFIG_TRACE_BRANCH_PROFILING, e.g. by running make allyesconfig or
make allmodconfig.
* run make C=2
Result: a huge number of the following sparse warnings.
...
include/linux/cpumask.h:547:2: warning: symbol '______r' shadows an earlier one
include/linux/cpumask.h:547:2: originally declared here
...
The patch below fixes this by disabling branch profiling while analyzing the
kernel code with sparse.
This patch is already included in 2.6.30-rc1 -- see also

commit 00a62ce91e554198ef28234c91c36f850f5a3bc9 upstream
The Committed_AS field can underflow in certain situations:

> 5 Committed_AS: 18446744073709454080 kB
> 6 Committed_AS: 18446744073709320960 kB
Because NR_CPUS can be greater than 1000 and meminfo_proc_show() does
not check for underflow.
But NR_CPUS proportional isn't good calculation. In general,
possibility of lock contention is proportional to the number of online
cpus, not theorical maximum cpus (NR_CPUS).
The current kernel has generic percpu-counter stuff. using it is right
way. it makes code simplify and percpu_counter_read_positive() don't
make underflow issue.

commit 498052bba55ecaff58db6a1436b0e25bfd75a7ff upstream.
* all changes of current->fs are done under task_lock and write_lock of
old fs->lock
* refcount is not atomic anymore (same protection)
* its decrements are done when removing reference from current; at the
same time we decide whether to free it.
* put_fs_struct() is gone
* new field - ->in_exec. Set by check_unsafe_exec() if we are trying to do
execve() and only subthreads share fs_struct. Cleared when finishing exec
(success and failure alike). Makes CLONE_FS fail with -EAGAIN if set.
* check_unsafe_exec() may fail with -EAGAIN if another execve() from subthread
is in progress.

commit 71982a409f12c50d011325a4471aa20666bb908d upstream.
/proc/diskstats used to show stats for all disks whether they're
zero-sized or not and their non-zero partitions. Commit
074a7aca7afa6f230104e8e65eba3420263714a5 accidentally changed the
behavior such that it doesn't print out zero sized disks. This patch
implements DISK_PITER_INCL_EMPTY_PART0 flag to partition iterator and
uses it in diskstats_show() such that empty part0 is shown in

upstream commit: 0ad30b8fd5fe798aae80df6344b415d8309342cc
When POSIX capabilities were introduced during the 2.1 Linux
cycle, the fs mask, which represents the capabilities which having
fsuid==0 is supposed to grant, did not include CAP_MKNOD and
CAP_LINUX_IMMUTABLE. However, before capabilities the privilege
to call these did in fact depend upon fsuid==0.
This patch introduces those capabilities into the fsmask,
restoring the old behavior.
See the thread starting at http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/3/11/157 for
reference.
Note that if this fix is deemed valid, then earlier kernel versions (2.4
and 2.2) ought to be fixed too.

upstream commit: 7f1e2ca9f04b02794597f60e7b1d43f0a1317939
It appears I inadvertly introduced rq->lock recursion to the
hrtimer_start() path when I delegated running already expired
timers to softirq context.
This patch fixes it by introducing a __hrtimer_start_range_ns()
method that will not use raise_softirq_irqoff() but
__raise_softirq_irqoff() which avoids the wakeup.
It then also changes schedule() to check for pending softirqs and
do the wakeup then, I'm not quite sure I like this last bit, nor
am I convinced its really needed.

upstream commit: e3c8ca8336707062f3f7cb1cd7e6b3c753baccdd
Freezing tasks via the cgroup freezer causes the load average to climb
because the freezer's current implementation puts frozen tasks in
uninterruptible sleep (D state).
Some applications which perform job-scheduling functions consult the
load average when making decisions. If a cgroup is frozen, the load
average does not provide a useful measure of the system's utilization
to such applications. This is especially inconvenient if the job
scheduler employs the cgroup freezer as a mechanism for preempting low
priority jobs. Contrast this with using SIGSTOP for the same purpose:
the stopped tasks do not count toward system load.
Change task_contributes_to_load() to return false if the task is
frozen. This results in /proc/loadavg behavior that better meets
users' expectations.

upstream commit: 9a896c9a48ac6704c0ce8ee081b836644d0afe40
A new "address_space flag"--AS_MM_ALL_LOCKS--was defined to use the next
available AS flag while the Unevictable LRU was under development. The
Unevictable LRU was using the same flag and "no one" noticed. Current
mainline, since 2.6.28, has same value for two symbolic flag names.
So, define a unique flag value for AS_UNEVICTABLE--up close to the other
flags, [at the cost of an additional #ifdef] so we'll notice next time.
Note that #ifdef is not actually required, if we don't mind having the
unused flag value defined.

upstream commit: 1662e3a7f076e51e3073faf9ce77157b529c475b
Apparently the Configuration and Interface strings aren't used as
often as the Vendor, Product, and Serial strings. In at least one
device (a Saitek Cyborg Gold 3D joystick), attempts to read the
Configuration string cause the device to stop responding to Control
requests.
This patch (as1226) adds a quirks flag, telling the kernel not to
read a device's Configuration or Interface strings, together with a
new quirk for the offending joystick.

dma_map_sg could return a value different to 'nents' argument of
dma_map_sg so the ide stack needs to save it for the later usage
(e.g. for_each_sg).
The ide stack also needs to save the original sg_nents value for
pci_unmap_sg.

This is a fix for the following crash observed in 2.6.29-rc3:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/1/29/150
On ARM it doesn't make sense to trace a naked function because then
mcount is called without stack and frame pointer being set up and there
is no chance to restore the lr register to the value before mcount was
called.

Comparing the layouts of struct detail_pixel_timing with
x.org's struct detailed_timings and how those are handled,
it appears that the hsync_positive and vsync_positive
fields are backwards.
This patch fixes https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20019
for me. It was tested on 2 monitors, LG FLATRON L225WS 22" and
a YAKUMO 17" for which more details are unknown.

Clean up/micro-optimatization: Make the AF_INET-only version of
nlm_cmp_addr() smaller. This matches the style of
nlm_privileged_requester(), and makes the AF_INET-only version of

Fix a memory leak due to allocation in the XDR layer. In cases where the
RPC call needs to be retransmitted, we end up allocating new pages without
clearing the old ones. Fix this by moving the allocation into
nfs3_proc_setacls().
Also fix an issue discovered by Kevin Rudd, whereby the amount of memory
reserved for the acls in the xdr_buf->head was miscalculated, and causing
corruption.

This was causing some test apps to exit due to write failure under heavy

This was due to a race around adding and removing tx frame skb in
fcoe_pending_queue, Chris Leech helped me to find that brief unlocking
period when pulling skb from fcoe_pending_queue in various contexts
(fcoe_watchdog and fcoe_xmit) and then adding skb back into fcoe_pending_queue
up on a failed fcoe_start_io could change skb/tx frame order in
fcoe_pending_queue. Thanks Chris.
This patch allows only single context to pull skb from fcoe_pending_queue
at any time to prevent above described ordering issue/race by use of
fcoe_pending_queue_active flag.
This patch simplified fcoe_watchdog with modified fcoe_check_wait_queue by
use of FCOE_LOW_QUEUE_DEPTH instead previously used several conditionals
to clear and set lp->qfull.
I think FCOE_MAX_QUEUE_DEPTH with FCOE_LOW_QUEUE_DEPTH will work better
in re/setting lp->qfull and these could be fine tuned for performance.

Comment from "Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org>"

unneeded/undesirable cast of void*. There are probably zillions of
instances of this - there always are.
This whole inline function was unnecessary. The FCoE layer knows
that it's data structure is stored in the lport private data, it
can just access it from lport_priv().

1) Added '()' for function names in kerneldoc comments
2) Changed comment bookends from '**/' to '*/'. The comment on the the
mailing list was that '**/' "is consistently unconventional. Not
wrong, just odd." The Documentation/kernel-doc-nano-HOWTO.txt
states that kerneldoc comment blocks should end with '**/' but most
(if not all) instance I found under drivers/scsi/ were only using
the '*/' so I converted to that style.
3) Removed incorrect linebreaks in kerneldoc comments where found
4) Removed a few unnecessary blank comment lines in kerneldoc comment
blocks

[CPUFREQ] Add p4-clockmod sysfs-ui removal to feature-removal schedule.
Revert "[CPUFREQ] Disable sysfs ui for p4-clockmod."
|
|
This reverts commit e088e4c9cdb618675874becb91b2fd581ee707e6.
Removing the sysfs interface for p4-clockmod was flagged as a
regression in bug 12826.
Course of action:
- Find out the remaining causes of overheating, and fix them
if possible. ACPI should be doing the right thing automatically.
If it isn't, we need to fix that.
- mark p4-clockmod ui as deprecated
- try again with the removal in six months.
It's not really feasible to printk about the deprecation, because
it needs to happen at all the sysfs entry points, which means adding
a lot of strcmp("p4-clockmod".. calls to the core, which.. bleuch.
