2024-02-15genetlink: Add per family bind/unbind callbacksStanislaw Gruszka
Add genetlink family bind()/unbind() callbacks when adding/removing multicast group to/from netlink client socket via setsockopt() or bind() syscall. They can be used to track if consumers of netlink multicast messages emerge or disappear. Thus, a client implementing callbacks, can now send events only when there are active consumers, preventing unnecessary work when none exist. 2024-02-15update workarounds for gcc "asm goto" issueLinus Torvalds
In commit 4356e9f841f7 ("work around gcc bugs with 'asm goto' with outputs") I did the gcc workaround unconditionally, because the cause of the bad code generation wasn't entirely clear. In the meantime, Jakub Jelinek debugged the issue, and has come up with a fix in gcc [2], which also got backported to the still maintained branches of gcc-11, gcc-12 and gcc-13. Note that while the fix technically wasn't in the original gcc-14 branch, Jakub says: "while it is true that no GCC 14 snapshots until today (or whenever the fix will be committed) have the fix, for GCC trunk it is up to the distros to use the latest snapshot if they use it at all and would allow better testing of the kernel code without the workaround, so that if there are other issues they won't be discovered years later. Most userland code doesn't actually use asm goto with outputs..." so we will consider gcc-14 to be fixed - if somebody is using gcc snapshots of the gcc-14 before the fix, they should upgrade. Note that while the bug goes back to gcc-11, in practice other gcc changes seem to have effectively hidden it since gcc-12.1 as per a bisect by Jakub. So even a gcc-14 snapshot without the fix likely doesn't show actual problems. Also, make the default 'asm_goto_output()' macro mark the asm as volatile by hand, because of an unrelated gcc issue [1] where it doesn't match the documented behavior ("asm goto is always volatile"). 2024-02-13can: canxl: add virtual CAN network identifier supportOliver Hartkopp
CAN XL data frames contain an 8-bit virtual CAN network identifier (VCID). A VCID value of zero represents an 'untagged' CAN XL frame. To receive and send these optional VCIDs via CAN_RAW sockets a new socket option CAN_RAW_XL_VCID_OPTS is introduced to define/access VCID content: - tx: set the outgoing VCID value by the kernel (one fixed 8-bit value) - tx: pass through VCID values from the user space (e.g. for traffic replay) - rx: apply VCID receive filter (value/mask) to be passed to the user space With the 'tx pass through' option CAN_RAW_XL_VCID_TX_PASS all valid VCID values can be sent, e.g. to replay full qualified CAN XL traffic. The VCID value provided for the CAN_RAW_XL_VCID_TX_SET option will override the VCID value in the struct canxl_frame.prio defined for CAN_RAW_XL_VCID_TX_PASS when both flags are set. With a rx_vcid_mask of zero all possible VCID values (0x00 - 0xFF) are passed to the user space when the CAN_RAW_XL_VCID_RX_FILTER flag is set. Without this flag only untagged CAN XL frames (VCID = 0x00) are delivered to the user space (default). The 8-bit VCID is stored inside the CAN XL prio element (only in CAN XL frames!) to not interfere with other CAN content or the CAN filters provided by the CAN_RAW sockets and kernel infrastruture. 2024-02-12ipv4: Set the routing scope properly in ip_route_output_ports().Guillaume Nault
Set scope automatically in ip_route_output_ports() (using the socket SOCK_LOCALROUTE flag). This way, callers don't have to overload the tos with the RTO_ONLINK flag, like RT_CONN_FLAGS() does. For callers that don't pass a struct sock, this doesn't change anything as the scope is still set to RT_SCOPE_UNIVERSE when sk is NULL. Callers that passed a struct sock and used RT_CONN_FLAGS(sk) or RT_CONN_FLAGS_TOS(sk, tos) for the tos are modified to use ip_sock_tos(sk) and RT_TOS(tos) respectively, as overloading tos with the RTO_ONLINK flag now becomes unnecessary. In drivers/net/amt.c, all ip_route_output_ports() calls use a 0 tos parameter, ignoring the SOCK_LOCALROUTE flag of the socket. But the sk parameter is a kernel socket, which doesn't have any configuration path for setting SOCK_LOCALROUTE anyway. Therefore, ip_route_output_ports() will continue to initialise scope with RT_SCOPE_UNIVERSE and amt.c doesn't need to be modified. Also, remove RT_CONN_FLAGS() and RT_CONN_FLAGS_TOS() from route.h as these macros are now unused. The objective is to eventually remove RTO_ONLINK entirely to allow converting ->flowi4_tos to dscp_t. This will ensure proper isolation between the DSCP and ECN bits, thus minimising the risk of introducing bugs where TOS values interfere with ECN. This causes the security hook to be called in situation were it wasn't called before as the fast permission checks were left in do_clone_file_range(). Fix this by merging the two implementations back together and restoring the old ordering: fast permission checks first, expensive ones later. - Tweak mount_setattr() permission checking so that mount properties on the real rootfs can be changed. When we added mount_setattr() we added additional checks compared to legacy mount(2). If the mount had a parent then verify that the caller and the mount namespace the mount is attached to match and if not make sure that it's an anonymous mount. But the real rootfs falls into neither category. It is neither an anoymous mount because it is obviously attached to the initial mount namespace but it also obviously doesn't have a parent mount. So that means legacy mount(2) allows changing mount properties on the real rootfs but mount_setattr(2) blocks this. This causes regressions (See the commit for details). Fix this by relaxing the check. If the mount has a parent or if it isn't a detached mount, verify that the mount namespaces of the caller and the mount are the same. Technically, we could probably write this even simpler and check that the mount namespaces match if it isn't a detached mount. Pass the duration of a lifetime (in seconds) to the function rt6_add_dflt_router() so that it can properly set the expiration time. The function ndisc_router_discovery() is the only one that calls rt6_add_dflt_router(), and it will later set the expiration time for the route created by rt6_add_dflt_router(). However, there is a gap of time between calling rt6_add_dflt_router() and setting the expiration time in ndisc_router_discovery(). During this period, there is a possibility that a new route may be removed from the routing table. By setting the correct expiration time in rt6_add_dflt_router(), we can prevent this from happening. The reason for setting RTF_EXPIRES in rt6_add_dflt_router() is to start the Garbage Collection (GC) timer, as it only activates when a route with RTF_EXPIRES is added to a table. The submitting thread (one which called recvmsg/sendmsg) may exit as soon as the async crypto handler calls complete() so any code past that point risks touching already freed data. Add devm/of_phy_package_join helper to join PHYs in a PHY package. These are variant of the manual phy_package_join with the difference that these will use DT nodes to derive the base_addr instead of manually passing an hardcoded value. An additional value is added in phy_package_shared, "np" to reference the PHY package node pointer in specific PHY driver probe_once and config_init_once functions to make use of additional specific properties defined in the PHY package node in DT. The np value is filled only with of_phy_package_join if a valid PHY package node is found. A valid PHY package node must have the node name set to "ethernet-phy-package". 2024-02-09work around gcc bugs with 'asm goto' with outputsLinus Torvalds
We've had issues with gcc and 'asm goto' before, and we created a 'asm_volatile_goto()' macro for that in the past: see commits 3f0116c3238a ("compiler/gcc4: Add quirk for 'asm goto' miscompilation bug") and a9f180345f53 ("compiler/gcc4: Make quirk for asm_volatile_goto() unconditional"). Then, much later, we ended up removing the workaround in commit 43c249ea0b1e ("compiler-gcc.h: remove ancient workaround for gcc PR 58670") because we no longer supported building the kernel with the affected gcc versions, but we left the macro uses around. Now, Sean Christopherson reports a new version of a very similar problem, which is fixed by re-applying that ancient workaround. But the problem in question is limited to only the 'asm goto with outputs' cases, so instead of re-introducing the old workaround as-is, let's rename and limit the workaround to just that much less common case. It looks like there are at least two separate issues that all hit in this area: (a) some versions of gcc don't mark the asm goto as 'volatile' when it has outputs: https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=98619 https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=110420 which is easy to work around by just adding the 'volatile' by hand. (b) Internal compiler errors: https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=110422 which are worked around by adding the extra empty 'asm' as a barrier, as in the original workaround. but the problem Sean sees may be a third thing since it involves bad code generation (not an ICE) even with the manually added 'volatile'. but the same old workaround works for this case, even if this feels a bit like voodoo programming and may only be hiding the issue. Update set backend .insert, .deactivate and sync gc path to use the timestamp, this avoids that an element expires while control plane transaction is still unfinished. .lookup and .update, which are used from packet path, still use the current time to check if the element has expired. And .get path and dump also since this runs lockless under rcu read size lock. Then, there is async gc which also needs to check the current time since it runs asynchronously from a workqueue. exit_batch_rtnl() is called while RTNL is held, and devices to be unregistered can be queued in the dev_kill_list. unregister_nexthop_notifier() assumes the caller does not hold rtnl. We need in the following patch to use it from a context already holding rtnl. Add __unregister_nexthop_notifier(). unregister_nexthop_notifier() becomes a wrapper.
