2014-05-19inet: prevent leakage of uninitialized memory to user in recv syscallsHannes Frederic Sowa
[ Upstream commit bceaa90240b6019ed73b49965eac7d167610be69 ] Only update *addr_len when we actually fill in sockaddr, otherwise we can return uninitialized memory from the stack to the caller in the recvfrom, recvmmsg and recvmsg syscalls. Drop the the (addr_len == NULL) checks because we only get called with a valid addr_len pointer either from sock_common_recvmsg or inet_recvmsg. If a blocking read waits on a socket which is concurrently shut down we now return zero and set msg_msgnamelen to 0. 2012-10-07phonet: Check input from user before allocatingSasha Levin
[ Upstream commit bcf1b70ac6eb0ed8286c66e6bf37cb747cbaa04c ] A phonet packet is limited to USHRT_MAX bytes, this is never checked during tx which means that the user can specify any size he wishes, and the kernel will attempt to allocate that size. In the good case, it'll lead to the following warning, but it may also cause the kernel to kick in the OOM and kill a random task on the server. 2011-05-09Phonet: device notifier only runs on initial namespaceRémi Denis-Courmont
[bwh: This is only applicable to 2.6.32. Phonet was fixed upstream to work with multiple net namespaces.] This should really fix the OOPS when doing: unshare(CLONE_NEWNET); exit(0); while the phonet module is loaded. 2010-10-28Phonet: disable network namespace supportRémi Denis-Courmont
[Solved differently upstream] Network namespace in the Phonet socket stack causes an OOPS when a namespace is destroyed. This occurs as the loopback exit_net handler is called after the Phonet exit_net handler, and re-enters the Phonet stack. I cannot think of any nice way to fix this in kernel <= 2.6.32. For lack of a better solution, disable namespace support completely. If you need that, upgrade to a newer kernel. Signed-off-by: Rémi Denis-Courmont <remi.denis-courmont@nokia.com> Cc: Eric W. 2009-02-24netlink: change nlmsg_notify() return value logicPablo Neira Ayuso
This patch changes the return value of nlmsg_notify() as follows: If NETLINK_BROADCAST_ERROR is set by any of the listeners and an error in the delivery happened, return the broadcast error; else if there are no listeners apart from the socket that requested a change with the echo flag, return the result of the unicast notification. Thus, with this patch, the unicast notification is handled in the same way of a broadcast listener that has set the NETLINK_BROADCAST_ERROR socket flag. This patch is useful in case that the caller of nlmsg_notify() wants to know the result of the delivery of a netlink notification (including the broadcast delivery) and take any action in case that the delivery failed. For example, ctnetlink can drop packets if the event delivery failed to provide reliable logging and state-synchronization at the cost of dropping packets. This patch also modifies the rtnetlink code to ignore the return value of rtnl_notify() in all callers. The function rtnl_notify() (before this patch) returned the error of the unicast notification which makes rtnl_set_sk_err() reports errors to all listeners. This is not of any help since the origin of the change (the socket that requested the echoing) notices the ENOBUFS error if the notification fails and should resync itself.
