2014-05-06ALSA: hda - Fix silent speaker output due to mute LED fixupTakashi Iwai
commit 415d555e6b398b00fc1733f0113065a54df9106a upstream. The recent fixups for HP laptops to support the mute LED made the speaker output silent on some machines. It turned out that they use the NID 0x18 for the speaker while it's also used for controlling the LED via VREF bits although the current driver code blindly assumes that such a node is a mic pin (where 0x18 is usually so). This patch fixes the problem by only changing the VREF bits and keeping the other pin ctl bits. This leads to PCM core warnings like: snd_pcm_update_hw_ptr0: 105 callbacks suppressed ALSA pcm_lib.c:352 BUG: pcmC3D0c:0, pos = 5461, buffer size = 5461, period size = 2730 This patch fixes these checks to be placed after the proper unit conversions. 2014-03-06ASoC: da732x: Mark DC offset control registers volatileMark Brown

The driver reads from the DC offset control registers during callibration but since the registers are marked as volatile and there is a register cache the values will not be read from the hardware after the first reading rendering the callibration ineffective. It appears that the driver was originally written for the ASoC level register I/O code but converted to regmap prior to merge and this issue was missed during the conversion as the framework level volatile register functionality was not being used. 2014-03-06ALSA: hda - Enable front audio jacks on one HP desktop modelHui Wang

The front headphone and mic jackes on a HP desktop model (Vendor Id: 0x111d76c7 Subsystem Id: 0x103c2b17) can not work, the codec on this machine has 8 physical ports, 6 of them are routed to rear jackes and all of them work very well, while the remaining 2 ports are routed to front headphone and mic jackes, but the corresponding pin complex node are not defined correctly. After apply this fix, the front audio jackes can work very well. 2014-03-06ALSA: hda/ca0132 - Fix recording from mode id 0x8Hsin-Yu Chao
commit 13c12dbe3a2ce17227f7ddef652b6a53c78fa51f upstream. Incorrect ADC is picked in ca0132_capture_pcm_prepare(), where it assumes multiple streams while there is one stream per ADC. Note that ca0132_capture_pcm_cleanup() already does the right thing. The Chromebook Pixel has a microphone under the keyboard that is attached to node id 0x8. Before this fix, recording would always go to the main internal mic (node id 0x7). When a HDMI stream is opened with the same stream tag as a following opened stream to ca0132, audio will be heard from two ports simultaneously. Fix this issue by change to use snd_hda_codec_setup_stream and snd_hda_codec_cleanup_stream instead, so that an inactive stream can be marked as 'dirty' when found with a conflict stream tag, and then get purified. 2014-02-06ALSA: hda/hdmi - allow PIN_OUT to be dynamically enabledStephen Warren
(This is upstream 75fae117a5db "ALSA: hda/hdmi - allow PIN_OUT to be dynamically enabled", backported to stable 3.10 through 3.12. 3.13 and later can take the original patch.) Commit 384a48d71520 "ALSA: hda: HDMI: Support codecs with fewer cvts than pins" dynamically enabled each pin widget's PIN_OUT only when the pin was actively in use. This was required on certain NVIDIA CODECs for correct operation. Specifically, if multiple pin widgets each had their mux input select the same audio converter widget and each pin widget had PIN_OUT enabled, then only one of the pin widgets would actually receive the audio, and often not the one the user wanted! However, this apparently broke some Intel systems, and commit 6169b673618b "ALSA: hda - Always turn on pins for HDMI/DP" reverted the dynamic setting of PIN_OUT. This in turn broke the afore-mentioned NVIDIA CODECs. This change supports either dynamic or static handling of PIN_OUT, selected by a flag set up during CODEC initialization. This flag is enabled for all recent NVIDIA GPUs. 2014-02-06ALSA: hda - hdmi: introduce patch_nvhdmi()Anssi Hannula
(This is a backport of *part* of upstream 611885bc963a "ALSA: hda - hdmi: Disallow unsupported 2ch remapping on NVIDIA codecs" to stable 3.10 through 3.12. Later stable already contain all of the original patch.) Mainline commit 611885bc963a "ALSA: hda - hdmi: Disallow unsupported 2ch remapping on NVIDIA codecs" introduces function patch_nvhdmi(). That function is edited by 75fae117a5db "ALSA: hda/hdmi - allow PIN_OUT to be dynamically enabled". In order to backport the PIN_OUT patch, I am first back-porting just the addition of function patch_nvhdmi(), so that the conflicts applying the PIN_OUT patch are simplified. Ideally, one might backport all of 611885bc963a. However, that commit doesn't apply to stable kernels, since it relies on a chain of other patches which implement new features. Since the recent change of page allocator, page allocations via dma_alloc_coherent() with the limited DMA mask bits may fail more frequently, ended up with no available buffers, when CONFIG_ZONE_DMA isn't enabled. With CONFIG_ZONE_DMA, the system has much more chance to obtain such pages. This ended up with the duplicated controls for the same effect. This patch adds the check of the duplication for avoiding it. After this fix, there will be only one control although it affects both paths; this remaining issue should be fixed later in a different patch. 2014-01-09ALSA: hda - Add enable_msi=0 workaround for four HP machinesDavid Henningsson

While enabling these machines, we found we would sometimes lose an interrupt if we change hardware volume during playback, and that disabling msi fixed this issue. (Losing the interrupt caused underruns and crackling audio, as the one second timeout is usually bigger than the period size.) 2014-01-09ASoC: tegra: fix uninitialized variables in set_fmtStephen Warren
commit 241bf43321a10815225f477bba96a42285a2da73 upstream. In tegra*_i2s_set_fmt(), in the (fmt == SND_SOC_DAIFMT_CBM_CFM) case, "val" is never assigned to, but left uninitialized. The other case does initialized it. Fix this by initializing val at the start of the function, and only ever ORing into it. Update the handling of "mask" so it works the same way for consistency. Update tegra20_spdif.c to use the same code-style for consistency, even though it doesn't happen to suffer from the same problem at present. 2013-12-20ALSA: hda - hdmi: Fix IEC958 ctl indexes for some simple HDMI devicesAnssi Hannula

In case a single HDA card has both HDMI and S/PDIF outputs, the S/PDIF outputs will have their IEC958 controls created starting from index 16 and the HDMI controls will be created starting from index 0. However, HDMI simple_playback_build_controls() as used by old VIA and NVIDIA codecs incorrectly requests the IEC958 controls to be created with an S/PDIF type instead of HDMI. In case the card has other codecs that have HDMI outputs, the controls will be created with wrong index=16, causing them to e.g. be unreachable by the ALSA "hdmi" alias. Fix that by making simple_playback_build_controls() request controls with HDMI indexes. Not many cards have an affected configuration, but e.g. ASUS M3N78-VM contains an integrated NVIDIA HDA "card" with: - a VIA codec that has, among others, an S/PDIF pin incorrectly labelled as an HDMI pin, and - an NVIDIA MCP7x HDMI codec. commit 3690739b013504d33fe9348dd45f6b126aa370fb upstream. AD1986A codec is a pretty old codec and has really many hidden restrictions. One of such is that each DAC is dedicated to certain pin although there are possible connections. Currently, the generic parser tries to assign individual DACs as much as possible, and this lead to two bad situations: connections where the sound actually doesn't work, and connections conflicting other channels. We may fix this by trying to find the best connections more harder, but as of now, it's easier to give some hints for paired DAC/pin connections and honor them if available, since such a hint is needed only for specific codecs (right now only AD1986A, and there will be unlikely any others in future).
