In order to test the bug and verify the fix I set my rhashtable's max_size very low (4) in order to force getting hash collisions. At that point, rhashtable WARNed in rhashtable_insert_rehash() but didn't actually reject the hash table insertion. This caused it to lose insertions - my master list of stations would have 9 entries, but the rhashtable only had 5. This may warrant a deeper look, but that WARN_ON() just shouldn't happen. Fix this by not returning true from rht_grow_above_100() when the rhashtable's max_size has been reached - in this case the user is explicitly configuring it to be at most that big, so even if it's now above 100% it shouldn't attempt to resize. This fixes the "lost insertion" issue and consequently allows my code to display its error (and verify my fix for it.) Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg Acked-by: Thomas Graf Signed-off-by: David S. Before commit fa76ce7328b2 ("inet: get rid of central tcp/dccp listener timer"), listener spinlock was held and race could not happen. To solve this bug, we change reqsk_queue_unlink() to not assume req must be found, and we return a status, to conditionally release a refcount on the request sock. This also means tcp_check_req() in non fastopen case might or not consume req refcount, so tcp_v6_hnd_req() & tcp_v4_hnd_req() have to properly handle this. (Same remark for dccp_check_req() and its callers) inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() is now too big to be inlined, as it is called 4 times in tcp and 3 times in dccp. The task migration notifier was originally introduced in order to support the pvclock vsyscall with non-synchronized TSC, but KVM only supports it with synchronized TSC. Hence, on KVM the race condition is only needed due to a bad implementation on the host side, and even then it's so rare that it's mostly theoretical. As far as KVM is concerned it's possible to fix the host, avoiding the additional complexity in the vDSO and the (re)introduction of the task migration notifier. Xen, on the other hand, hasn't yet implemented vsyscall support at all, so we do not care about its plans for non-synchronized TSC. We have seen in traces where it will sometimes work, but other times it looks like it fails and it looks like it returns failures if we send multiple large IOs sometimes. Also it looks like it can return 2 different errors. It will sometimes send iscsi reject errors indicating out of resources or it will send invalid cdb illegal requests check conditions. And then when it sends iscsi rejects it does not seem to handle retries when there are command sequence holes, so I could not just add code to try and gracefully handle that error code. The problem is that we do not have a good contact for the company, so we are not able to determine under what conditions it returns which error and why it sometimes works. So, this patch just adds a new black list flag to set targets like this to the old max safe sectors of 1024. The max_hw_sectors changes added in 3.19 caused this regression, so I also ccing stable. The FLAG_NO_RESIDUE was initially added when the DMAengine framework had no support for describing the residue reporting capabilities of the controller. Support for this was added quite a while ago and recently the DMAengine framework started to complain if a driver does not describe its capabilities and a lot of patches have been merged that add support for this where it was missing. So it should be safe to assume that driver on actively used platforms properly implement the DMA capabilities API. This patch makes the FLAG_NO_RESIDUE internal and no longer allows audio controller drivers to manually set the flag. If a DMA driver against expectations does not support reporting its capabilities for now the generic DMAengine PCM driver will now emit a warning and simply assume that residue reporting is not supported. The DAPM state itself is managed by the DAPM core though and the core has certain expectations on how and when the bias_level field should be updated. This patch adds a few helper functions for manipulating the DAPM context state, each function with a description on when it should be used and what its effects are. This will also help us to move more of the bias_level management from drivers to the DAPM core. For convenience also add snd_soc_codec_* wrappers around these helpers. With this change when a Xen guest tries to resume, it won't be calling its set_mode op which needs to be done on each VCPU in order to make the hypervisor aware that we are in oneshot mode. This happens because clockevents_tick_resume() (which is an intermediate step of resuming ticks on a processor) doesn't call clockevents_set_state() anymore and because during suspend clockevent devices on all VCPUs (except for the one doing the suspend) are left in ONESHOT state. As result, during resume the clockevents state machine will assume that device is already where it should be and doesn't need to be updated. To avoid this problem we should suspend ticks on all VCPUs during suspend. While using barrier() works well for the case of gcc, recent efforts from LLVMLinux people suggest to use llvm as an alternative to gcc, and there, Stephan found in a simple stand-alone user space example that llvm could nevertheless optimize and thus elimitate the memset(). A similar issue has been observed in the referenced llvm bug report, which is regarded as not-a-bug. Based on some experiments, icc is a bit special on its own, while it doesn't seem to eliminate the memset(), it could do so with an own implementation, and then result in similar findings as with llvm. The fix in this patch now works for all three compilers (also tested with more aggressive optimization levels). Arguably, in the current kernel tree it's more of a theoretical issue, but imho, it's better to be pedantic about it. It's clearly visible with gcc/llvm though, with the below code: if we would have used barrier() only here, llvm would have omitted clearing, not so with barrier_data() variant: static inline void memzero_explicit(void *s, size_t count) { memset(s, 0, count); barrier_data(s); } int main(void) { char buff[20]; memzero_explicit(buff, sizeof(buff)); return 0; } $ gcc -O2 test.c $ gdb a.out (gdb) disassemble main Dump of assembler code for function main: 0x0000000000400400 <+0>: lea -0x28(%rsp),%rax 0x0000000000400405 <+5>: movq $0x0,-0x28(%rsp) 0x000000000040040e <+14>: movq $0x0,-0x20(%rsp) 0x0000000000400417 <+23>: movl $0x0,-0x18(%rsp) 0x000000000040041f <+31>: xor %eax,%eax 0x0000000000400421 <+33>: retq End of assembler dump. $ clang -O2 test.c $ gdb a.out (gdb) disassemble main Dump of assembler code for function main: 0x00000000004004f0 <+0>: xorps %xmm0,%xmm0 0x00000000004004f3 <+3>: movaps %xmm0,-0x18(%rsp) 0x00000000004004f8 <+8>: movl $0x0,-0x8(%rsp) 0x0000000000400500 <+16>: lea -0x18(%rsp),%rax 0x0000000000400505 <+21>: xor %eax,%eax 0x0000000000400507 <+23>: retq End of assembler dump. As gcc, clang, but also icc defines __GNUC__, it's sufficient to define this in compiler-gcc.h only to be picked up. For a fallback or otherwise unsupported compiler, we define it as a barrier. Similarly, for ecc which does not support gcc inline asm. But it only added support for controls based on the mixer abstraction. This patch add support for mux controls (DAPM controls based on the enum abstraction) to be auto-disabled as well. As each mux can only have a single control, there is no need to tie the autodisable widget to the inputs (as is done for the mixer controls) it can be tided directly to the mux widget itself. Note that it is assumed that the first entry in a autodisable mux control will always represent the off state for the mux and is what the mux will be set to whilst it is disabled. Where a mux has multiple input and one output and selects one of the inputs to be connected to the output, the demux has one input and multiple outputs and selects one of the outputs to which the input gets connected. This similarity makes it straight forward to support them in DAPM using the existing mux support, we only need to swap sinks and sources when initially setting up the paths. The only slightly tricky part is that there can only be one control per path. Since mixers/muxes are at the sink of a path and a demux is at the source and both types want a control it is not possible to directly connect a demux output to a mixer/mux input. The patch adds some sanity checks to make sure that this does not happen. Drivers who want to model hardware which directly connects a demux output to a mixer/mux input can do this by inserting a dummy widget between the two. For example, pty slave | input worker | pty master | | | | n_tty_read() pty_write() | | input avail? no add data | | sleep schedule worker --->| | . |---> flush_to_ldisc() | . pty_close() | fill read buffer | . wait for worker | wakeup reader --->| . | read buffer full? |---> input avail ? yes |<--- yes - exit worker | copy 4096 bytes to user TTY_OTHER_CLOSED <---| |<--- kick worker | | **** New read() before worker starts **** | | n_tty_read() | | input avail? no | | TTY_OTHER_CLOSED? yes | | return -EIO Several conditions are required to trigger this race: 1. the ldisc read buffer must become full so the input worker exits 2. the read() count parameter must be >= 4096 so the ldisc read buffer is empty 3. the subsequent read() occurs before the kicked worker has processed more input However, the underlying cause of the race is that data is pipelined, while tty state is not; ie., data already written by the pty slave end is not yet visible to the pty master end, but state changes by the pty slave end are visible to the pty master end immediately. Pipeline the TTY_OTHER_CLOSED state through input worker to the reader. 1. Introduce TTY_OTHER_DONE which is set by the input worker when TTY_OTHER_CLOSED is set and either the input buffers are flushed or input processing has completed. Readers/polls are woken when TTY_OTHER_DONE is set. 2. Reader/poll checks TTY_OTHER_DONE instead of TTY_OTHER_CLOSED. 3. A new input worker is started from pty_close() after setting TTY_OTHER_CLOSED, which ensures the TTY_OTHER_DONE state will be set if the last input worker is already finished (or just about to exit). Remove tty_flush_to_ldisc(); no in-tree callers. When adding routes it is very likely, however, that adjacent routes will require adjacent widgets. For example all the routes for a mux are likely added in a block and the sink widget will be the same each time and it is also quite likely that the source widgets are sequential located in the widget list. This patch adds a cache to the DAPM context, this cache will hold the source and sink widgets from the last call to snd_soc_dapm_add_route for that context. A small search of the widget list will be made from those points for both the sink and source. Currently this search only checks both the last widget and the one adjacent to it. On wm8280 which has approximately 500 widgets and 30000 routes (one of the largest CODECs in mainline), the number of paths that hit the cache is 24000, which significantly improves probe time. And when a ktime helper was changed to utilize ktime_divns, it caused a regression on some IR blasters. See the following bugzilla for details: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1200353 This patch fixes the problem in ktime_divns by checking and preserving the sign bit, and then reapplying it if appropriate after the division, it also changes the return type to a s64 to make it more obvious this is expected. Nicolas also pointed out that negative dividers would cause infinite loops on 32bit systems, negative dividers is unlikely for users of this function, but out of caution this patch adds checks for negative dividers for both 32-bit (BUG_ON) and 64-bit(WARN_ON) versions to make sure no such use cases creep in. Alternatively, we could introduce a per kmem cache flag disabling accounting for all allocations of a particular kind, but (a) we would not be able to bypass accounting for kmalloc then and (b) a kmem cache with this flag set could not be merged with a kmem cache without this flag, which would increase the number of global caches and therefore fragmentation even if the memory cgroup controller is not used. Despite its generic name, currently __GFP_NOACCOUNT disables accounting only for kmem allocations while user page allocations are always charged. To catch abusing of this flag, a warning is issued on an attempt of passing it to mem_cgroup_try_charge. This pose a problem for netfilter conntrack in state LAST_ACK, because this challenge ACK is (falsely) seen as ACKing last FIN, causing a false state transition (into TIME_WAIT). The challenge ACK is hard to distinguish from real last ACK. Thus, solution introduce a flag that tracks the potential for seeing a challenge ACK, in case a SYN packet is let through and current state is LAST_ACK. When conntrack transition LAST_ACK to TIME_WAIT happens, this flag is used for determining if we are expecting a challenge ACK. This is a problem because some users (tipc) set a ceiling on the maximum table size and when that is reached the hash table may degenerate. Others may encounter OOM when growing and if we allow insertions when that happens the hash table perofrmance may also suffer. This patch adds a new paramater insecure_max_entries which becomes the cap on the table. If unset it defaults to max_size * 2. If it is also zero it means that there is no cap on the number of elements in the table. However, the table will grow whenever the utilisation hits 100% and if that growth fails, you will get ENOMEM on insertion. As allowing oversubscription is potentially dangerous, the name contains the word insecure. Note that the cap is not a hard limit. This is done for performance reasons as enforcing a hard limit will result in use of atomic ops that are heavier than the ones we currently use. The reasoning is that we're only guarding against a gross over- subscription of the table, rather than a small breach of the limit. Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu Signed-off-by: David S. Zeroing the v6 flowinfo overwrites the v4 sin_addr with 0, meaning that every place that calls sctp_v4_map_v6 gets ::ffff:0.0.0.0 as the result. Reorder things to guarantee correct behaviour no matter what the union layout is. This impacts user space clients that open an IPv6 SCTP socket and receive IPv4 connections. Prior to 299ee user space would see a sockaddr with AF_INET and a correct address, after 299ee the sockaddr is AF_INET6, but the address is wrong. I never saw it before, it went through DaveM. (He only does this to make us other maintainers feel better about our own mistakes.) cpumask_set_cpu_local_first's purpose is say "I need to spread things across N online cpus, choose the ones on this numa node first"; you call it in a loop. It can fail. One of the two callers ignores this, the other aborts and fails the device open. It can fail in two ways: allocating the off-stack cpumask, or through a convoluted codepath which AFAICT can only occur if cpu_online_mask changes. Which shouldn't happen, because if cpu_online_mask can change while you call this, it could return a now-offline cpu anyway. It contains a nonsensical test "!cpumask_of_node(numa_node)". This was drawn to my attention by Geert, who said this causes a warning on Sparc. It sets a single bit in a cpumask instead of returning a cpu number, because that's what the callers want. It could be made more efficient by passing the previous cpu rather than an index, but that would be more invasive to the callers. Hence the standard percpu counter batch of 32 means that the counter is effectively a global counter. Currently Xfs uses a batch size of 128 so that it doesn't take the global lock on every single modification. However, Xfs also needs to compare accurately against zero, which means we need to use percpu_counter_compare(), and that has a hard-coded batch size of 32, and hence will spuriously fail to detect when it is supposed to use precise comparisons and hence the accounting goes wrong. Add __percpu_counter_compare() to take a custom batch size so we can use it sanely in XFS and factor percpu_counter_compare() to use it. The following objects are supported :- o kcontrols including TLV controls. o DAPM widgets and graph elements o Vendor bespoke objects. o Coefficient data o FE PCM capabilities and config. o BE link capabilities and config. o Codec <-> codec link capabilities and config. o Topology object manifest. The file format is simple and divided into blocks for each object type and each block has a header that defines it's size and type. Blocks can be in any order of type and can either all be in a single file or spread across more than one file. Blocks also have a group identifier ID so that they can be loaded and unloaded by ID. The core also passes any block that is does not understand to client component drivers for enumeration. The core exports some APIs to client drivers in order to load and unload firmware topology data as use case require. Currently the core deals with the following object types :- o kcontrols. This includes TLV, enumerated and bytes controls. o DAPM widgets. All types with any associated kcontrol. o DAPM graph. o FE PCM. FE PCM capabilities and configuration can be defined. o BE DAI Link. BE DAI link capabilities and configuration can be defined. o Codec <-> codec style links capabilities and configuration.
