2025-04-23PCI: Add CONFIG_MMU dependencyArnd Bergmann
It turns out that there are no platforms that have PCI but don't have an MMU, so adding a Kconfig dependency on CONFIG_PCI simplifies build testing kernels for those platforms a lot, and avoids a lot of inadvertent build regressions. Add a dependency for CONFIG_PCI and remove all the ones for PCI specific device drivers that are currently marked not having it. There are a few platforms that have an optional MMU, but they usually cannot have PCI at all. The one exception is Coldfire MCF54xx, but this is mainly for historic reasons, and anyone using those chips should really use the MMU these days. 2024-10-28drm: handle HAS_IOPORT dependenciesNiklas Schnelle
In a future patch HAS_IOPORT=n will disable inb()/outb() and friends at compile time. We thus need to add HAS_IOPORT as dependency for those drivers using them. In the bochs driver there is optional MMIO support detected at runtime, warn if this isn't taken when HAS_IOPORT is not defined. There is also a direct and hard coded use in cirrus.c which according to the comment is only necessary during resume. Let's just skip this as for example s390 which doesn't have I/O port support also doesen't support suspend/resume. 2024-09-26drm/gma500: Run DRM default client setupThomas Zimmermann
Rework fbdev probing to support fbdev_probe in struct drm_driver and remove the old fb_probe callback. Provide an initializer macro for struct drm_driver that sets the callback according to the kernel configuration. Call drm_client_setup() to run the kernel's default client setup for DRM. Set fbdev_probe in struct drm_driver, so that the client setup can start the common fbdev client. v5: - select DRM_CLIENT_SELECTION Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Cc: Patrik Jakobsson <patrik.r.jakobsson@gmail.com> Acked-by: Javier Martinez Canillas <javierm@redhat.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20240924071734.98201-76-tzimmermann@suse.de
2023-07-31fbdev: Use _IOMEM_ infix for I/O-memory helpersThomas Zimmermann
Change the infix for fbdev's I/O-memory helpers from _IO_ to _IOMEM_ to distiguish them from other types of I/O, such as file operations. The helpers operate on memory ranges in the I/O address space and the naming should make this clear. Adapt all users. No functional changes. 2023-06-01drm/gma500: Use regular fbdev I/O helpersThomas Zimmermann
Use the regular fbdev helpers for framebuffer I/O instead of DRM's helpers. Gma500 does not use damage handling, so DRM's fbdev helpers are mere wrappers around the fbdev code. By using fbdev helpers directly within each DRM fbdev emulation, we can eventually remove DRM's wrapper functions entirely. v4: * use initializer macros for struct fb_ops v2: * use FB_IO_HELPERS option Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Cc: Patrik Jakobsson <patrik.r.jakobsson@gmail.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20230530151228.22979-6-tzimmermann@suse.de
2023-01-10drm: Only select I2C_ALGOBIT for drivers that actually need itUwe Kleine-König
While working on a drm driver that doesn't need the i2c algobit stuff I noticed that DRM selects this code even though only 8 drivers actually use it. While also only some drivers use i2c, keep the select for I2C for the next cleanup patch. Still prepare this already by also selecting I2C for the individual drivers. 2022-09-03ACPI: video: Add Nvidia WMI EC brightness control detection (v3)Hans de Goede
On some new laptop designs a new Nvidia specific WMI interface is present which gives info about panel brightness control and may allow controlling the brightness through this interface when the embedded controller is used for brightness control. When this WMI interface is present and indicates that the EC is used, then this interface should be used for brightness control. Changes in v2: - Use the new shared nvidia-wmi-ec-backlight.h header for the WMI firmware API definitions - ACPI_VIDEO can now be enabled on non X86 too, adjust the Kconfig changes to match this. 2013-10-11drm: Add separate Kconfig option for fbdev helpersDaniel Vetter
For drivers which might want to disable fbdev legacy support. Select the new option in all drivers for now, so this shouldn't result in any change. Drivers need some work anyway to make fbdev support optional (if they have it implemented, that is), so the recommended way to expose this is by adding per-driver options. At least as long as most drivers don't support disabling the fbdev support. v2: Update for new drm drivers msm and rcar-du. Note that Rob's msm driver can already take advantage of this, which allows us to build msm without any fbdev depencies in the kernel! v3: Move the MODULE_* stuff from the fbdev helper file to drm_crtc_helper.c.
