2025-10-17media: v4l2-mem2mem: Don't copy frame flags in v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata()Laurent Pinchart
The v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata() function takes a boolean copy_frame_flags argument. When true, it causes the function to copy the V4L2_BUF_FLAG_KEYFRAME, V4L2_BUF_FLAG_BFRAME and V4L2_BUF_FLAG_PFRAME flags from the output buffer to the capture buffer. There is no use cases in any upstream driver for copying the flags. KEY/P/B frames are properties of the bitstream buffer in some formats. Once decoded, this is no longer a property of the video frame and should be discarded. It was considered useful to know if an uncompressed frame was decoded from a KEY/P/B compressed frame, and to preserve that information if that same uncompressed frame was passed through another M2M device (e.g. a scaler). However, the V4L2 documentation makes it clear that the flags are meant for compressed frames only. Drop the copy_frame_flags argument from v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata(). The change to drivers was performed with the following Coccinelle semantic patch: @@ expression src; expression dst; expression flag; @@ - v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata(src, dst, flag); + v4l2_m2m_buf_copy_metadata(src, dst); include/media/v4l2-mem2mem.h and drivers/media/v4l2-core/v4l2-mem2mem.c have been updated manually. 2025-10-17media: vim2m: Drop unneeded v4l2_m2m_get_vq() NULL checkLaurent Pinchart
The v4l2_m2m_get_vq() function never returns NULL. In the set format handler, the check may have been intended to catch invalid format types, but that's not needed as the V4L2 core picks the appropriate VIDIOC_S_FMT ioctl handler based on the format type, so the type can't be incorrect. In the get format handler, the return value is not used for any purpose other than the NULL check, which was therefore probably intended to catch invalid format types. That's not needed for the same reason as in the set format handler. Drop the unneeded return value checks and, as the function has no side effect, the unneeded function call as well. 2025-10-14media: vidtv: initialize local pointers upon transfer of memory ownershipJeongjun Park
vidtv_channel_si_init() creates a temporary list (program, service, event) and ownership of the memory itself is transferred to the PAT/SDT/EIT tables through vidtv_psi_pat_program_assign(), vidtv_psi_sdt_service_assign(), vidtv_psi_eit_event_assign(). The problem here is that the local pointer where the memory ownership transfer was completed is not initialized to NULL. This causes the vidtv_psi_pmt_create_sec_for_each_pat_entry() function to fail, and in the flow that jumps to free_eit, the memory that was freed by vidtv_psi_*_table_destroy() can be accessed again by vidtv_psi_*_event_destroy() due to the uninitialized local pointer, so it is freed once again. Therefore, to prevent use-after-free and double-free vulnerability, local pointers must be initialized to NULL when transferring memory ownership. 2025-09-09media: vivid: fix disappearing <Vendor Command With ID> messagesHans Verkuil
The vivid driver supports the <Vendor Command With ID> message, but if the Vendor ID of the received message didn't match the Vendor ID of the CEC Adapter, then it ignores it (good) and returns 0 (bad). It should return -ENOMSG to indicate that other followers should be asked to handle it. Return code 0 means that the driver handled it, which is wrong in this case. As a result, userspace followers never get the chance to process such a message. Refactor the code a bit to have the function return -ENOMSG at the end, drop the default case, and ensure that the message handlers return 0. That way 0 is only returned if the message is actually handled in the vivid_received() function. 2025-08-13media: Replace file->private_data access with file_to_v4l2_fh()Laurent Pinchart
Accessing file->private_data manually to retrieve the v4l2_fh pointer is error-prone, as the field is a void * and will happily cast implicitly to any pointer type. Replace all remaining locations that read the v4l2_fh pointer directly from file->private_data with usage of the file_to_v4l2_fh() function. The change was generated manually. No functional change is intended, this only paves the way to remove direct accesses to file->private_data and make V4L2 drivers safer. Other accesses to the field will be addressed separately. 2025-07-08media: vivid: fix wrong pixel_array control sizeHans Verkuil
The pixel_array control size was calculated incorrectly: the dimensions were swapped (dims[0] should be the height), and the values should be the width or height divided by PIXEL_ARRAY_DIV and rounded up. 2025-04-25media: vim2m: Add parametized support for multiplanar APIMatthew Majewski
Add support for the mulitiplaner API. The device can now act as either a multi-planar or a single-planar device depending on a module parameter, similar to the way vivid behaves. Multiplanar support was added by implementing the appropate try/get/set mplane functions, and by modifying the queue_setup() and buf_prepare() functions to handle multiple planes. Implementation was inspired by vivid. Signed-off-by: Matthew Majewski <mattwmajewski@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl>

2025-04-07media: vivid: fix FB dependencyArnd Bergmann
It's not enough to have a dependency on CONFIG_FB, as that can be in a loadable module when vivid itself is builtin: drivers/media/test-drivers/vivid/vivid-osd.o: in function `vivid_fb_init': vivid-osd.c:(.text+0xdc0): undefined reference to `fb_alloc_cmap' vivid-osd.c:(.text+0xe26): undefined reference to `register_framebuffer' Change the dependency to only allow configurations that can be built, but change the FB to FB_CORE so this is also possible when using DRM with FB compatibility rather than full fbdev. 2024-11-08media: vicodec: add V4L2_CID_MIN_BUFFERS_FOR_* controlsHans Verkuil
Stateful codecs must support the V4L2_CID_MIN_BUFFERS_FOR_OUTPUT and V4L2_CID_MIN_BUFFERS_FOR_CAPTURE controls. The vicodec driver was missing support for these controls. Add them. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Reviewed-by: Sakari Ailus <sakari.ailus@linux.intel.com>
2024-10-28media: v4l2-core: v4l2-dv-timings: check cvt/gtf resultHans Verkuil
The v4l2_detect_cvt/gtf functions should check the result against the timing capabilities: these functions calculate the timings, so if they are out of bounds, they should be rejected. To do this, add the struct v4l2_dv_timings_cap as argument to those functions. This required updates to the adv7604 and adv7842 drivers since the prototype of these functions has now changed. The timings struct that is passed to v4l2_detect_cvt/gtf in those two drivers is filled with the timings detected by the hardware. The vivid driver was also updated, but an additional check was added: the width and height specified by VIDIOC_S_DV_TIMINGS has to match the calculated result, otherwise something went wrong. Note that vivid *emulates* hardware, so all the values passed to the v4l2_detect_cvt/gtf functions came from the timings struct that was filled by userspace and passed on to the driver via VIDIOC_S_DV_TIMINGS. So these fields can contain random data. Both the constraints check via struct v4l2_dv_timings_cap and the additional width/height check ensure that the resulting timings are sane and not messed up by the v4l2_detect_cvt/gtf calculations. 2024-10-28media: test-drivers: drop vb2_ops_wait_prepare/finishHans Verkuil
Since commit 88785982a19d ("media: vb2: use lock if wait_prepare/finish are NULL") it is no longer needed to set the wait_prepare/finish vb2_ops callbacks as long as the lock field in vb2_queue is set. Since the vb2_ops_wait_prepare/finish callbacks already rely on that field, we can safely drop these callbacks. This simplifies the code and this is a step towards the goal of deleting these callbacks. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Reviewed-by: Shuah Khan <skhan@linuxfoundation.org>
2024-10-28media: vivid: fix buffer overwrite when using > 32 buffersHans Verkuil
The maximum number of buffers that can be requested was increased to 64 for the video capture queue. But video capture used a must_blank array that was still sized for 32 (VIDEO_MAX_FRAME). This caused an out-of-bounds write when using buffer indices >= 32. Create a new define MAX_VID_CAP_BUFFERS that is used to access the must_blank array and set max_num_buffers for the video capture queue. 2024-10-12media: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König
After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/media to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. 2024-08-25media: vicodec: allow en/decoder cmd w/o CAPTUREDeborah Brouwer
Vicodec will ignore en/decoder commands if the CAPTURE queue is not streaming. But this prevents CMD_STOP from being used during a dynamic resolution change to mark the last source buffer. Since CMD_STOP is ignored, but doesn’t fail, there is no warning that the command needs to be resent, and CAPTURE will continue to attempt to dequeue buffers waiting, futilely, for one with V4L2_BUF_FLAG_LAST. Fix this problem by carrying out en/decoder commands even if CAPTURE is not streaming. 2024-08-09media: Drop explicit initialization of struct i2c_device_id::driver_data to 0Uwe Kleine-König
These drivers don't use the driver_data member of struct i2c_device_id, so don't explicitly initialize this member. This prepares putting driver_data in an anonymous union which requires either no initialization or named designators. But it's also a nice cleanup on its own. While add it, also remove commas after the sentinel entries. Signed-off-by: Uwe Kleine-König <u.kleine-koenig@pengutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil-cisco@xs4all.nl>
