Pull tty / serial driver updates from Greg KH:
"Here is the big set of TTY and Serial driver updates for 7.2-rc1.
Overall we end up removing more code than added, due to an obsolete
synclink_gt driver being removed from the tree, always a nice thing to
see happen.
Other than that driver removal, major things included in here are:
- max310x serial driver updates and fixes
- 8250 driver updates and rework in places to make it more "modern"
- dts file updates
- serial driver core tweaks and updates
- vt code cleanups
- vc_screen crash fixes
- other minor driver updates and cleanups
All of these have been in linux-next for well over a week with no
reported issues"

The synclink_gt driver was marked as broken in commit 426263d5fb40
("tty: synclink_gt: mark as BROKEN") in July 2023 because it had severe
structural problems and there had been no evidence of users since 2016.
Since then, no meaningful improvements have been made to the driver,
and it is unlikely that will ever happen due to the lack of interest.
Drop the driver and references to it in comments and documentation.
include/uapi/linux/synclink.h is also removed. The only use of this
header I have found is the linux-raw-sys Rust crate. It generates
bindings for all UAPI headers, but has a hardcoded list of headers and
ioctls, including this one, so that does not indicate that anyone is
using it. I have sent a pull request to remove the include and ioctl
definitions for this header (see the link below).

Both links of the PPPoE section are no longer valid, and the CVS version
is no longer relevant.
- Replace the TLDP URL with the pppd project homepage.
- Update pppd version requirement for PPPoE.
- Update RP-PPPoE project homepage, and clarify that it's only needed
for server mode.

There is already an 'if PPP' condition wrapping several config options
e.g. PPP_MPPE and PPPOE, making the 'depends on PPP' statement for each of
these a duplicate dependency (dead code).
I propose leaving the outer 'if PPP...endif' and removing the individual
'depends on PPP' statement from each option.
This dead code was found by kconfirm, a static analysis tool for Kconfig.

Instead of its intention to define PPPOE_HASH_BITS_1, commit 96ba44c637b0
("net/pppoe: make number of hash bits configurable") actually defined
config PPPOE_HASH_BITS_2 twice in the ppp's Kconfig file due to a quick
typo with the numbers.
Fix the typo and define PPPOE_HASH_BITS_1.

When running large numbers of pppoe connections, a bucket size of 16 may
be too small and 256 may be more appropriate. This sacrifices some RAM
but should result in faster processing of incoming PPPoE frames.
On our systems we run upwards of 150 PPPoE connections at any point in
time, and we suspect we're starting to see the effects of this small
number of buckets.
The legal values according to pppoe.c is anything that when 8 is divided
by that results in a modulo of 0, ie, 1, 2, 4 and 8.
The size of the per-underlying-interface structure is:
sizeof(rwlock_t) + sizeof(pppox_sock*) * PPPOE_HASH_SIZE.
Assuming a 64-bit pointer this will result in just over a 2KiB structure
for PPPOE_HASH_BITS=8, which will likely result in a 4KiB allocation,
which for us at least is acceptable.
Not sure what the minimum allocation size is, and thus if values of 1
and 2 truly make sense. Default results in historic sizing and
behaviour.

Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.
This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.
There are a variety of indentation styles found.
a) 4 spaces + '---help---'
b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation)
f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---'
g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'
In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the
following commend:
$ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/'

The MPPE code uses the sync skcipher to invoke the ecb(arc4) skcipher,
of which only a single generic C code implementation exists. This means
that going through all the trouble of using scatterlists etc buys us
very little, and we're better off just invoking the arc4 library directly.
Note that the SHA1 shash used by this driver has several accelerated
implementations for various architectures, so retaining that part does
make sense.

The CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL config item has not carried much meaning for a
while now and is almost always enabled by default. As agreed during the
Linux kernel summit, remove it from any "depends on" lines in Kconfigs.

The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.
The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.
bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by
removing TTY. The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk
'$3 != "-"' as the list was very long.
