2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>

2025-10-20ASoC: mediatek: mt8188: use snd_kcontrol_chip() instead of ↵Kuninori Morimoto
snd_soc_kcontrol_component() We have very similar name functions (A)(B). Both gets component from snd_kcontrol, but (A) is used in callback functions which is registered through snd_soc_add_component_controls(), (B) is used through snd_soc_dapm_new_widgets(). (A) snd_soc_kcontrol_component() (B) snd_soc_dapm_kcontrol_component() (B) is using very picky way to get component but using it is necessary in ASoC. But (A) is just wrapper function to snd_kcontrol_chip(), and directly using it without wrapper is very common way on ALSA. To reduce confusions of similar function, let's use common way on (A). Merge series from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>: This is a revised series of small and trivial patches to convert to the newer PM macros, e.g. from SET_RUNTIME_PM_OPS() to RUNTIME_PM_OPS(). 2025-02-25ASoC: mediatek: mt8188: Treat DMIC_GAINx_CUR as non-volatileNícolas F. R. A. Prado
The DMIC_GAINx_CUR registers contain the current (as in present) gain of each DMIC. During capture, this gain will ramp up until a target value is reached, and therefore the register is volatile since it is updated automatically by hardware. However, after capture the register's value returns to the value that was written to it. So reading these registers returns the current gain, and writing configures the initial gain for every capture. >From an audio configuration perspective, reading the instantaneous gain is not really useful. Instead, reading back the initial gain that was configured is the desired behavior. For that reason, consider the DMIC_GAINx_CUR registers as non-volatile, so the regmap's cache can be used to retrieve the values, rather than requiring pm runtime resuming the device. 2024-12-05ASoC: mediatek: mt8188-mt6359: Remove hardcoded dmic codecNícolas F. R. A. Prado
Remove hardcoded dmic codec from the UL_SRC dai link to avoid requiring a dmic codec to be present for the driver to probe, as not every MT8188-based platform might need a dmic codec. No Devicetree currently relies on it so it is safe to remove without worrying about backward compatibility. 2024-11-27ASoC: mediatek: Check num_codecs is not zero to avoid panic during probeNícolas F. R. A. Prado
Following commit 13f58267cda3 ("ASoC: soc.h: don't create dummy Component via COMP_DUMMY()"), COMP_DUMMY() became an array with zero length, and only gets populated with the dummy struct after the card is registered. Since the sound card driver's probe happens before the card registration, accessing any of the members of a dummy component during probe will result in undefined behavior. This can be observed in the mt8188 and mt8195 machine sound drivers. By omitting a dai link subnode in the sound card's node in the Devicetree, the default uninitialized dummy codec is used, and when its dai_name pointer gets passed to strcmp() it results in a null pointer dereference and a kernel panic. In addition to that, set_card_codec_info() in the generic helpers file, mtk-soundcard-driver.c, will populate a dai link with a dummy codec when a dai link node is present in DT but with no codec property. The result is that at probe time, a dummy codec can either be uninitialized with num_codecs = 0, or be an initialized dummy codec, with num_codecs = 1 and dai_name = "snd-soc-dummy-dai". In order to accommodate for both situations, check that num_codecs is not zero before accessing the codecs' fields but still check for the codec's dai name against "snd-soc-dummy-dai" as needed. While at it, also drop the check that dai_name is not null in the mt8192 driver, introduced in commit 4d4e1b6319e5 ("ASoC: mediatek: mt8192: Check existence of dai_name before dereferencing"), as it is actually redundant given the preceding num_codecs != 0 check. 2023-10-09ASoC: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-09-11ASoC: mediatek: mt8188-mt6359: support dynamic pinctrlTrevor Wu
To avoid power leakage, it is recommended to replace the default pinctrl state with dynamic pinctrl since certain audio pinmux functions can remain in a HIGH state even when audio is disabled. Linking pinctrl with DAPM using SND_SOC_DAPM_PINCTRL will ensure that audio pins remain in GPIO mode by default and only switch to an audio function when necessary. https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/sound into for-next ASoC: Updates for v6.6 Here's an initial batch of updates for ASoC for this release cycle. We've got a bunch of new drivers in here, a bit of core work from Morimoto-san and quite a lot of janitorial work. There's several updates that pull in changes from other subsystems in order to build on them: - An adaptor to allow use of IIO DACs and ADCs in ASoC which pulls in some IIO changes. - Create a library function for intlog10() and use it in the NAU8825 driver. - Include the ASoC tests, including the topology tests, in the default KUnit full test coverage. This also involves enabling UML builds of ALSA since that's the default KUnit test environment which pulls in the addition of some stubs to the driver. - More factoring out from Morimoto-san. - Convert a lot of drivers to use the more modern maple tree register cache. - Support for AMD machines with MAX98388 and NAU8821, Cirrus Logic CS35L36, Intel AVS machines with ES8336 and RT5663 and NXP i.MX93.

To ensure that DPCM takes into account the backend hardware limitations when user space queries the hw_params of a device, we need to add dpcm_merged_format, dpcm_merged_chan, and dpcm_merged_rate to the FE dai_links. This patch includes only stereo FE dai_links, since multi-channel FEs may be reserved for specific purposes. Therefore, it may not be appropriate to consider BE conditions.
