Our last sync with the kernel was 5.1. Even that was a partial one
as some patches from 4.x kernels were already missing making the
transition to a modern kbuild infeasible.
We are so out of sync now, that tracking the patches and backporting
them one by one makes little sense and it's going to take ages.
This is an attempt to sync up Makefile[.lib/.kbuild].
Unfortunately due to sheer amount of patches this is not easy to review,
but that's what we decided during a community call.
One of the biggest changes is get rid of partial linking entirely and
build .a archives isntead of .o.
We diaviate from the kernel on that. Instead of calling a custom script
to create the archive symbol table, we call ar with rcTP (isntead of
rcSTP) since we want a resulting archive that's sauble with the linker.
The only affected platforms are PPC ones. Unfortunately I don't have any
of them around to test, but the objdump of the resulting files --
arch/powerpc/lib/built-in.[oa] looks identical.

1. Convert all linker symbols to char[] type so that we can get the
corresponding address by calling array name 'var' or its address
'&var'. In this way, we can avoid some potential issues[1].
2. Remove unused symbol '_TEXT_BASE'. It has been abandoned and has
not been referenced by any source code.
3. Move '__data_end' to the arch x86's own sections header as it's
only used by x86 arch.
4. Remove some duplicate declared linker symbols. Now we use the
standard header file to declare them.

Fix a regression brings by commit 84f8e36f03fa ("cmd: bind: allow to
bind driver with driver data")
As example, the following bind command doesn't work:
bind /soc/usb-otg@49000000 usb_ether
As usb_ether driver has no compatible string, it can't be find by
lists_bind_fdt(). In bind_by_node_path(), which called lists_bind_fdt(),
the driver entry is known, pass it to lists_bind_fdt() to force the driver
entry selection.
For this, add a new parameter struct *driver to lists_bind_fdt().
Fix also all lists_bind_fdt() callers.

Move this out of the common header and include it only where needed. In
a number of cases this requires adding "struct udevice;" to avoid adding
another large header or in other cases replacing / adding missing header
files that had been pulled in, very indirectly. Finally, we have a few
cases where we did not need to include <asm/global_data.h> at all, so

The Linux coding style guide (Documentation/process/coding-style.rst)
clearly says:
It's a **mistake** to use typedef for structures and pointers.
Besides, using typedef for structures is annoying when you try to make
headers self-contained.
Let's say you have the following function declaration in a header:
void foo(bd_t *bd);
This is not self-contained since bd_t is not defined.
To tell the compiler what 'bd_t' is, you need to include <asm/u-boot.h>
#include <asm/u-boot.h>
void foo(bd_t *bd);
Then, the include direcective pulls in more bloat needlessly.
If you use 'struct bd_info' instead, it is enough to put a forward
declaration as follows:
struct bd_info;
void foo(struct bd_info *bd);
Right, typedef'ing bd_t is a mistake.
I used coccinelle to generate this commit.
The semantic patch that makes this change is as follows:
<smpl>
@@
typedef bd_t;
@@
-bd_t
+struct bd_info
</smpl>

When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and
there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the
area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it
with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the
Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first
line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line)
and with slightly different comment styles than us.
In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility
and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style.
This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared
license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag
contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag
and have introduced one.
