The devicetree is already in dts/upstream. The CONFIG_DRAM_SUNXI_* settings are chosen such that the register values in the DRAM PHY's MMIO space are as close as possible to those observed when booting with the preinstalled vendor U-Boot. When CONFIG_OF_UPSTREAM is enabled, the device tree name provided by SPL already includes the vendor directory (e.g., "allwinner/board-name"). The existing logic in misc_init_r() unconditionally prepends "allwinner/" for ARM64 builds, resulting in an incorrect path like "allwinner/allwinner/board-name.dtb". This patch modifies the logic to only prepend the vendor prefix if CONFIG_OF_UPSTREAM is NOT enabled. This ensures compatibility with both legacy builds and the new upstream devicetree structure. 2025-06-24sunxi: add support for the Allwinner A100/A133 SoCAndre Przywara
The Allwinner A100 SoC has been around for a while, mostly on cheap tablets, but didn't generate much interest in the community so far. There were some efforts by two Allwinner employees in 2020, which led to basic upstream Linux support for that SoC, although this momentum dried up pretty quickly, leaving a lot of peripherals unsupported. The A100 was silently replaced with the seemingly identical Allwinner A133, which is reportedly a better bin of the A100. So far we assume that both are compatible from a software perspective. There are some more devices with the A133 out there now, so people are working on filling the gaps, and adding U-Boot (and TF-A) support. Based on the just added pinctrl, clock and DRAM support, this adds the missing bits, mostly addresses and values for the SPL. The A133 seems to be an predecessor to the H6, so we can share a lot of code with that (and the H616 code), and just need to adjust some details. The AXP803 has been around for about a decade now, but so far we didn't need SPL support, since the DRAM rail was wired up correctly at reset. Now some boards using the A133 SoC use the (compatible) AXP707 with DDR4 memory, which requires the SPL to set the required 1.1V voltage manually. Add the descriptions for the DC/DC regulators of the AXP803, and enable that when CONFIG_AXP803_POWER is enabled. 2025-01-22sunxi: pinephone: detect existed magnetometer and fixup dtbAndrey Skvortsov
In newer 1.2 PinePhone board revisions LIS3MDL magnetometer was replaced by AF8133J. They use the same PB1 pin in different modes. LIS3MDL uses it as an gpio input to handle interrupt. AF8133J uses it as an gpio output as a reset signal. It wasn't possible at runtime to enable both device tree nodes and detect supported sensor at probe time. AF8133J has reset pin (PB1) connected to the SoC. By default AF8133J is in a reset state and don't respond to probe request on I2C bus. Extra code would be needed to handle reset signal. Therefore this code uses LIS3MDL magnetometer instead of AF8133J. Introducing new dts 1.2b with AF8133J sensor would require probing in SPL. That would lead to pulling in into SPL I2C controller driver, RSB controller driver, introducing new AXP803 driver to power-up sensors for probe. It's working, but SPL is pretty size-constrained on A64 and doesn't have much space. Therefore fdt fixup is done in U-Boot proper without introducing new board revision and new dts. 2025-01-22power: pmic: sunxi: guard DCDC5 separatelyAndre Przywara
So far all sunxi boards programming the DCDC1 power rail on the AXP PMIC also set the DCDC5 rail, so we could handle both with the same DCDC1 guard. Some boards using the AXP313 will need to set DCDC1 now as well, and since the AXP313 only has three buck converters, there will be no DCDC5, so this trick is not going to work anymore. Don't try to be too clever, and just protect programming the two DCDC rails with two separate guards. This has the interesting side effect of fixing operation on A80 boards, using the AXP809 PMIC. Apparently programming DCDC5 right after DCDC1, but before the other three rails caused some glitch, which made the board hang during Linux boot, during the PSCI handler in U-Boot. Just keeping the old setup order (DCDC1,2,3,4,5) will make those boards boot to the Linux prompt again. This switches all boards with the Allwinner H616/H618/H313/H700 SoCs over to use OF_UPSTREAM. We are doing it for this SoC family only since the DTs between the U-Boot and the kernel repo are exactly identical, whereas other families have one compatibility fix in U-Boot to allow booting older kernels. Other will follow if this plays out well. The biggest chunk otherwise is adding support for an Anbernic game console, using the H700 SoC. For that we need to enhance the DRAM support code, and pick two DT commits from the mainline kernel/DT rebasing repo, followed by the defconfig patch. On top of that two small fixes for the old Allwinner A80. Gitlab CI passed, and I booted that briefly on some boards, including an H616 and an H618 one (with LPDDR4).

It has since expanded to become an important part of U-Boot, with three phases now present: TPL, VPL and SPL Due to this history, the term 'SPL' is used to mean both a particular phase (the one before U-Boot proper) and all the non-proper phases. This has become confusing. For a similar reason CONFIG_SPL_BUILD is set to 'y' for all 'SPL' phases, not just SPL. So code which can only be compiled for actual SPL, for example, must use something like this: #if defined(CONFIG_SPL_BUILD) && !defined(CONFIG_TPL_BUILD) In Makefiles we have similar issues. SPL_ has been used as a variable which expands to either SPL_ or nothing, to chose between options like CONFIG_BLK and CONFIG_SPL_BLK. When TPL appeared, a new SPL_TPL variable was created which expanded to 'SPL_', 'TPL_' or nothing. Later it was updated to support 'VPL_' as well. This series starts a change in terminology and usage to resolve the above issues: - The word 'xPL' is used instead of 'SPL' to mean a non-proper build - A new CONFIG_XPL_BUILD define indicates that the current build is an 'xPL' build - The existing CONFIG_SPL_BUILD is changed to mean SPL; it is not now defined for TPL and VPL phases - The existing SPL_ Makefile variable is renamed to SPL_ - The existing SPL_TPL Makefile variable is renamed to PHASE_ It should be noted that xpl_phase() can generally be used instead of the above CONFIGs without a code-space or run-time penalty. This series does not attempt to convert all of U-Boot to use this new terminology but it makes a start. In particular, renaming spl.h and common/spl seems like a bridge too far at this point. The series is fully bisectable. It has also been checked to ensure there are no code-size changes on any commit.

The Anbernic RG35XX series of devices are based around an Allwinner H700 SoC with 1GB of RAM, 2 SD cards, and multiple input buttons. This bootloader has been tested on the Anbernic RG35XX-2024 and RG35XX-H, but should be suitable for the entire lineup of H700 based devices. The Tanix TX1 is a tiny TV box, featuring the Allwinner H313 SoC with up to 2GB of DRAM and 16GB of eMMC. There is no SD card or Ethernet port on this small device, but it can be booted via the USB debug "FEL" mode. The bootloader could then be written to the eMMC. Add the defconfig for that board, and add the devicetree file to the Makefile, for it to be built. The DRAM parameters were taken from the vendor firmware on the eMMC. Nothing really major here, some rework of the SPL PMIC drivers, adding support for the AXP717 on the way, which is showing up on newer boards now, most prominently some Anbernic handheld gaming devices. The rest is enabling Ethernet and SPI boot on the Allwinner V3s SoC, plus two fixes. This also updates the "traditional U-Boot" DTs to that of kernel v6.9. I will look into upgrading some SoCs to dts/upstream in the coming cycle, though this will not cover all SoCs for now, as we carry some non-mainline fix to improve compatibility with older kernels. Will see how it goes, but for now we stick with the "old way". The branch survived the gitlab CI run, and Linux boot testing on some selected boards.

On boards using the AXP717 PMIC, the DRAM rail is often not setup correctly at reset time, so we have to program the PMIC very early in the SPL, before running the DRAM initialisation. Using the new generic AXP SPL driver, add the Kconfig options and platform bits needed to support an AXP717 PMIC chip in I2C mode. The driver used for the Allwinner I2C IP is using proper DT and DM enablement for a while: we enable the clock gate and de-assert the reset line in the driver's probe() routine, and the pinmux setup is taken care of by the DM framework. This means the explicit call to the i2c_init_board() routine is not needed for U-Boot proper. As the board_init() function in board.c is only called for U-Boot proper, we can remove the call, something that the comment there hinted at already. Fix the comment for the board_init() function on the way: we were not really doing board specific setup there. The OrangePi Zero 2W is a tiny development board featuring the Allwinner H618 SoC, shipping with up to 4GB of LPDDR4 DRAM, a mini-HDMI connector, two USB Type-C sockets and a 16MB SPI NOR flash. There is an FPC connector to connect an expansion board, which sports two more USB Type-A sockets and a 100MBit Ethernet port. Support for the expansion board is not in the DT yet, probably a DT overlay would cover this in the future. Add a defconfig file selecting the right drivers and DRAM options. Since the .dts file was synced from the Linux kernel repo already, we just need to add one line to the Makefile to actually build the .dtb. The DRAM parameters were derived from the values found in the BSP DRAM drivers on the SPI NOR flash. 2023-11-12sunxi: board: simplify early PMIC setup conditionsAndre Przywara
So far we have a convoluted #ifdef mesh that guards the early AXP PMIC setup in board.c. That combination of &&, || and negations is very hard to read, maintain and especially to extend. Fortunately we have those same conditions already modelled in the Kconfig file, so they are actually redundant. On top of that the real reason we have those preprocessor guards in the first place is about the symbols that are *conditionally* defined: without #ifdefs the build would break because of them being undefined for many boards. To simplify this, just change the guards to actually look at the symbols needed, so CONFIG_AXP_xxx_VOLT instead of CONFIG_AXPyyy_POWER. This drastically improves the readability of this code, and makes adding PMIC support a pure Kconfig matter. Doing this revealed one bug in Kconfig: there is no axp_set_dcdc4() for the AXP818, even though CONFIG_AXP_DCDC4_VOLT includes that PMIC. This is mostly about support for the Allwinner R528/T113s SoC, which is reportedly the same die as the Allwinner D1, but with the two Arm Cortex-A7 cores activated instead of the RISC-V one. Using sunxi code outside of arch/arm proved to be difficult, so apart from enabling this Arm SoC, the patches also prepare for more refactoring to get the D1 nicely supported some day: - We get rid of some Kconfig (hard-)coded GPIO pins, responsible for enabling regulators. - The GPIO code is moved out of arch/arm, into drivers/gpio. - Some definitions are moved out of header files under asm/arch. - Some T113s/D1 specific definitions are guarded by a generic Kconfig symbol (CONFIG_SUNXI_GEN_NCAT2). - The DRAM controller initialisation code is located under drivers/ram. - The base SoC .dtsi files are shared (under arch/riscv, as in Linux). Of course there are also the usual new SoC specific patches, like clock and pinmux descriptions, alongside a rework of the pinctrl code, since Allwinner changed the GPIO register layout, for the first time since sunxi's inception. On top of this the PSCI code sees some update, to provide SMP services for R528/T113s boards. Many thanks to Sam for providing this code and staying strong through the review cycles. The final patch enables support for one popular board, I hope to see more DTs and defconfigs contributed in the future! 2023-10-22pinctrl: sunxi: remove GPIO_EXTRA_HEADERAndre Przywara
U-Boot's generic GPIO_EXTRA_HEADER is a convenience symbol to allow code to more easily include platform specific GPIO headers. This should not be needed in a DM world anymore, since the generic GPIO framework handles that nicely. For Allwinner boards we still need to deal with non-DM GPIO in the SPL, but this should become the exception, not the rule. Make this more obvious by removing the definition of GPIO_EXTRA_HEADER, and just force every legacy user of platform specific GPIO to include the new sunxi_gpio.h header explicitly. The CONFIG_MACPWR Kconfig symbol is used to point to a GPIO that enables the power for the Ethernet "MAC" (mostly PHY, really). In the DT this is described with the phy-supply property in the MAC DT node, pointing to a (GPIO controlled) regulator. Since we need Ethernet only in U-Boot proper, and use a DM driver there, we should use the DT instead of hardcoding this. Add code to the sun8i_emac and sunxi_emac drivers to check the DT for that regulator and enable it, at probe time. Then drop the current code from board.c, which was doing that job before. This allows us to remove the MACPWR Kconfig definition and the respective values from the defconfigs. Since we need SATA only in U-Boot proper, and use a DM driver for AHCI there, we should use the DT instead of hardcoding this. Add code to the sunxi AHCI driver to check the DT for that regulator and enable it, at probe time. Then drop the current code from board.c, which was doing that job before. This allows us to remove the SATAPWR Kconfig definition and the respective values from the defconfigs. We also select the generic fixed regulator driver, which handles those GPIO controlled regulators. Please note that the OrangePi Plus is a bit special here, it's a H3 board without native SATA, but with a USB-to-SATA bridge. The DT models the SATA power via a VBUS supply regulator, which we don't parse yet in the USB PHY driver. Use the hardcoded CONFIG_USB3_VBUS_PIN for that board meanwhile. 2022-12-14sunxi: remove unused CONFIG_MMC_SUNXI_SLOTAndre Przywara
There is a CONFIG_MMC_SUNXI_SLOT definition in our sunxi_common.h config header, which was used to note the first MMC controller to initialise. The definition in that header was always set to 0, with no easy way of overriding this, and certainly none of the existing boards made any use of that (non-)feature. Remove that definition and replace it with a constant 0 in the only user, in board.c. It turns out that this is safe, as this is only used in the SPL, and the BROM also unconditionally initialises MMC0. This also removes the last legacy config symbol with SUN*I in it from the whitelist.
