2026-04-06eth: remove the driver for acenic / tigon1&2Jakub Kicinski
The entire git history for this driver looks like tree-wide and automated cleanups. There's even more coming now with AI, so let's try to delete it instead. 2025-10-13Use CONFIG_EXT4_FS instead of CONFIG_EXT3_FS in all of the defconfigsTheodore Ts'o
Commit d6ace46c82fd ("ext4: remove obsolete EXT3 config options") removed the obsolete EXT3_CONFIG options, since it had been over a decade since fs/ext3 had been removed. Unfortunately, there were a number of defconfigs that still used CONFIG_EXT3_FS which the cleanup commit didn't fix up. This led to a large number of defconfig test builds to fail. Oops. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next Pull networking updates from Jakub Kicinski: "Core & protocols: - Wrap datapath globals into net_aligned_data, to avoid false sharing - Preserve MSG_ZEROCOPY in forwarding (e.g. out of a container) - Add SO_INQ and SCM_INQ support to AF_UNIX - Add SIOCINQ support to AF_VSOCK - Add TCP_MAXSEG sockopt to MPTCP - Add IPv6 force_forwarding sysctl to enable forwarding per interface - Make TCP validation of whether packet fully fits in the receive window and the rcv_buf more strict. With increased use of HW aggregation a single "packet" can be multiple 100s of kB - Add MSG_MORE flag to optimize large TCP transmissions via sockmap, improves latency up to 33% for sockmap users - Convert TCP send queue handling from tasklet to BH workque - Improve BPF iteration over TCP sockets to see each socket exactly once - Remove obsolete and unused TCP RFC3517/RFC6675 loss recovery code - Support enabling kernel threads for NAPI processing on per-NAPI instance basis rather than a whole device. Fully stop the kernel NAPI thread when threaded NAPI gets disabled. 2025-07-03netfilter: conntrack: remove DCCP protocol supportPablo Neira Ayuso
The DCCP socket family has now been removed from this tree, see: 8bb3212be4b4 ("Merge branch 'net-retire-dccp-socket'") Remove connection tracking and NAT support for this protocol, this should not pose a problem because no DCCP traffic is expected to be seen on the wire. As for the code for matching on dccp header for iptables and nftables, mark it as deprecated and keep it in place. Ruleset restoration is an atomic operation. Without dccp matching support, an astray match on dccp could break this operation leaving your computer with no policy in place, so let's follow a more conservative approach for matches. Add CONFIG_NFT_EXTHDR_DCCP which is set to 'n' by default to deprecate dccp extension support. Similarly, label CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_DCCP as deprecated too and also set it to 'n' by default. Code to match on DCCP protocol from ebtables also remains in place, this is just a few checks on IPPROTO_DCCP from _check() path which is exercised when ruleset is loaded. There is another use of IPPROTO_DCCP from the _check() path in the iptables multiport match. Another check for IPPROTO_DCCP from the packet in the reject target is also removed. So let's schedule removal of the dccp matching for a second stage, this should not interfer with the dccp retirement since this is only matching on the dccp header. Cc: "David S. 2021-03-10MIPS: Enable some missed configs in loongson3_defconfig to support bpftraceTiezhu Yang
bpftrace is a high-level tracing language for Linux enhanced Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) available in recent Linux kernels (4.x). bpftrace uses LLVM as a backend to compile scripts to BPF-bytecode and makes use of BCC for interacting with the Linux BPF system, as well as existing Linux tracing capabilities: kernel dynamic tracing (kprobes), user-level dynamic tracing (uprobes), and tracepoints. According to Linux Kernel Requirements in bpftrace/INSTALL.md [1], the kernel needs to be built with the following options: CONFIG_BPF=y CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y CONFIG_BPF_JIT=y CONFIG_HAVE_EBPF_JIT=y CONFIG_BPF_EVENTS=y CONFIG_FTRACE_SYSCALLS=y CONFIG_FUNCTION_TRACER=y CONFIG_HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE=y CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE=y CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES=y CONFIG_KPROBES=y CONFIG_KPROBE_EVENTS=y CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_UPROBES=y CONFIG_UPROBES=y CONFIG_UPROBE_EVENTS=y CONFIG_DEBUG_FS=y So enable some missed configs in loongson3_defconfig to make sure the above configs are set after make loongson3_defconfig. In the current code, we can not build under !CONFIG_NUMA and !CONFIG_SMP on the Loongson64 platform, it seems bad for the users who just want to use pure single core (not nosmp) to debug, so do the following things to give them a chance: (1) Do not select NUMA and SMP for MACH_LOONGSON64 in Kconfig, make NUMA depends on SMP, and then just set them in the loongson3_defconfig. (2) Move szmem() from numa.c to init.c and add prom_init_memory() under !CONFIG_NUMA. (3) Clean up szmem() due to the statements of case SYSTEM_RAM_LOW and SYSTEM_RAM_HIGH are the same. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace Pull sysctl system call removal from Eric Biederman: "As far as I can tell we have reached the point where no one enables the sysctl system call anymore. It still is enabled in a few defconfigs but they are mostly the rarely used one and in asking people about that it was more cut & paste enabled than anything else. This is single commit that just deletes code. Leaving just enough code so that the deprecated sysctl warning continues to be printed. If my analysis turns out to be wrong and someone actually cares it will be easy to revert this commit and have the system call again. There was one new xtensa defconfig in linux-next that enabled the system call this cycle and when asked about it the maintainer of the code replied that it was not enabled on purpose. As of today's linux-next tree that defconfig no longer enables the system call. What we saw in the review discussion was that if we go a step farther than my patch and mess with uapi headers there are pieces of code that won't compile, but nothing minds the system call actually disappearing from the kernel" Link: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/201910011140.EA0181F13@keescook/ * 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace: sysctl: Remove the sysctl system call
2019-11-26sysctl: Remove the sysctl system callEric W. Biederman
This system call has been deprecated almost since it was introduced, and in a survey of the linux distributions I can no longer find any of them that enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. The only indication that I can find that anyone might care is that a few of the defconfigs in the kernel enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. However this appears in only 31 of 414 defconfigs in the kernel, so I suspect this symbols presence is simply because it is harmless to include rather than because it is necessary. As there appear to be no users of the sysctl system call, remove the code. As this removes one of the few uses of the internal kernel mount of proc I hope this allows for even more simplifications of the proc filesystem.
