2025-04-03x86: Allow adding non-aligned size for MTRRSimon Glass
At present mtrr_add_request() requires that the size is a power of two. This is too limiting for machines with 4GB (or more) of RAM, since they often must take account of a memory hole at 3GB. Update the function to automatically deal with an unaligned size, using more MTRRs as required. The algorithm is taken from coreboot commit 60bce10750 Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
2025-04-03x86: Add functions to convert between mtrr size and maskSimon Glass
Rather than repeating the same code in several places, add some functions which can do the conversion. Use the cpu_phys_address_size() function to obtain the physical-address size, since it is more reliable with kvm, where the host CPU may have a different value from the emulation CPU. 2024-05-19Revert "Merge patch series "arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay Ethernet""Tom Rini
When bringing in the series 'arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay Ethernet"' I failed to notice that b4 noticed it was based on next and so took that as the base commit and merged that part of next to master. This reverts commit c8ffd1356d42223cbb8c86280a083cc3c93e6426, reversing changes made to 2ee6f3a5f7550de3599faef9704e166e5dcace35. 2023-08-01x86: Return mtrr_add_request() to its old purposeSimon Glass
This function used to be for adding a list of requests to be actioned on relocation. Revert it back to this purpose, to avoid problems with boards which need control of their MTRRs (i.e. those which don't use FSP). The mtrr_set_next_var() function is available when the next free variable-MTRR must be set, so this can be used instead. 2023-07-17x86: Allow listing MTRRs in SPLSimon Glass
Move MTRR-listing code into a common file so it can be used from SPL. Update the 'mtrr' command to call it. Use this in SPL just before adjusting the MTRRs, so we can see the state set up by the board. Only show it when debug is enabled. 2021-08-02x86: mtrr: Abort if requested size is not power of 2Bin Meng
The size parameter of mtrr_add_request() and mtrr_set_next_var() shall be power of 2, otherwise the logic creates a mask that does not meet the requirement of IA32_MTRR_PHYSMASK register. 2021-08-02x86: mtrr: Do not clear the unused ones in mtrr_commit()Bin Meng
Current mtrr_commit() logic assumes that MTRR MSRs are programmed consecutively from index 0 to its maximum number, and whenever it detects an unused one, it clears all other MTRRs starting from that one. However this may not always be the case. In fact, the clear is not much helpful because these MTRRs come out of reset as disabled already. Drop the clear codes. 2021-02-02common: Drop asm/global_data.h from common headerSimon Glass
Move this out of the common header and include it only where needed. In a number of cases this requires adding "struct udevice;" to avoid adding another large header or in other cases replacing / adding missing header files that had been pulled in, very indirectly. Finally, we have a few cases where we did not need to include <asm/global_data.h> at all, so remove that include. 2020-11-10x86: Avoid using hardcoded number of variable range MTRRs in mtrr_commit()Bin Meng
Since commit 29d2d64ed55f ("x86: Add support for more than 8 MTRRs"), the maximum number of variable range MTRRs was increased from 8 to 10. On the BayTrail platform there are only 8 variable range MTRRs. In mtrr_commit() it still uses MTRR_MAX_COUNT which caused a #GP during VESA video driver probe. It should have been updated to use dynamically probed number. This fixes the boot failure seen on Intel Minnow Max board. 2019-12-02common: Move some cache and MMU functions out of common.hSimon Glass

2019-10-08x86: Add a function to set variable MTRRsSimon Glass
Normally U-Boot handles MTRRs through an add/commit process which overwrites all MTRRs. But in very early boot it is not desirable to clear the existing MTRRs since they may be in use and it can cause a hang. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag and have introduced one. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <trini@konsulko.com>
2015-01-23x86: Test mtrr support flag before accessing mtrr msrBin Meng
On some x86 processors (like Intel Quark) the MTRR registers are not supported. This is reflected by the CPUID (EAX 01H) result EDX[12]. Accessing the MTRR registers on such processors will cause #GP so we must test the support flag before accessing MTRR MSRs. 2015-01-13x86: Add support for MTRRsSimon Glass
Memory Type Range Registers are used to tell the CPU whether memory is cacheable and if so the cache write mode to use. Clean up the existing header file to follow style, and remove the unneeded code. These can speed up booting so should be supported. Add these to global_data so they can be requested while booting. We will apply the changes during relocation (in a later commit). Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
