2025-05-21imx: spl_imx_romapi: support raw NAND sectorDario Binacchi
Commit 2a00d73d081a ("spl: mmc: Try to clean up raw-mode options") breaks the boot of the BSH SMM S2 board. As stated in the dropped comment, "Some boards use this value even though MMC is not enabled in SPL, for example imx8mn_bsh_smm_s2". Support load of the U-Boot image from raw NAND sector. Make the raw-mode options depend on SPL_SYS_MMCSD_RAW_MODE in a more direct way. This makes it easier to understand the options with 'make menuconfig'. There are three different ways of specifying the offset: - sector offset - partition number - partition type So make these a choice, so it is more obvious what is going on. Update existing boards to enable SPL_SYS_MMCSD_RAW_MODE where needed. 2023-11-17imx: spl_imx_romapi: fix emmc fast boot mode caseMarcel Ziswiler
This fixes a regression in the eMMC fast boot mode case where the buffer was missing 464 bytes. The code figures out how many bytes must at least be fetched to honor the current read, rounds that up to the ss->pagesize [which is a no-op in the USB download case because that has ->pagesize==1], fetches that many bytes, but then recorded the original upper bound as the new end of the valid data. However, this did not take into account the rounding up to the ss->pagesize. Fix this by recording the actual bytes downloaded. 2023-11-16spl: Only support bl_len when we have toSean Anderson
Aligning addresses and sizes causes overhead which is unnecessary when we are not loading from block devices. Remove bl_len when it is not needed. For example, on iot2050 we save 144 bytes with this patch (once the rest of this series is applied): add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 0/3 up/down: 0/-144 (-144) Function old new delta spl_load_simple_fit 920 904 -16 load_simple_fit 496 444 -52 spl_spi_load_image 384 308 -76 Total: Before=87431, After=87287, chg -0.16% We use panic() instead of BUILD_BUG_ON in spl_set_bl_len because we still need to be able to compile it for things like mmc_load_image_raw_sector, even if that function will not be used. 2023-11-16spl: Refactor spl_load_info->read to use units of bytesSean Anderson
Simplify things a bit for callers of spl_load_info->read by refactoring it to use units of bytes instead of bl_len. This generally simplifies the logic, as MMC is the only loader which actually works in sectors. It will also allow further refactoring to remove the special-case handling of filename. spl_load_legacy_img already works in units of bytes (oops) so it doesn't need to be changed. 2023-10-17arm: imx: Check header before calling spl_load_imx_containerSean Anderson
Make sure we have an IMX header before calling spl_load_imx_container, since if we don't it will fail with -ENOENT. This allows us to fall back to legacy/raw images if they are also enabled. This is a functional change, one which likely should have been in place from the start, but a functional change nonetheless. Previously, all non-IMX8 images (except FITs without FIT_FULL) would be optimized out if the only image load method enabled supported IMX8 images. With this change, support for other image types now has an effect. There are seven boards with SPL_LOAD_IMX_CONTAINER enabled: three with SPL_BOOTROM_SUPPORT: imx93_11x11_evk_ld imx93_11x11_evk imx8ulp_evk and four with SPL_MMC: deneb imx8qxp_mek giedi imx8qm_mek All of these boards also have SPL_RAW_IMAGE_SUPPORT and SPL_LEGACY_IMAGE_FORMAT enabled as well. However, none have FIT support enabled. Of the six load methods affected by this patch, only SPL_MMC and SPL_BOOTROM_SUPPORT are enabled with SPL_LOAD_IMX_CONTAINER. spl_romapi_load_image_seekable does not support legacy or raw images, so there is no growth. However, mmc_load_image_raw_sector does support loading legacy/raw images. Since these images could not have been booted before, I have disabled support for legacy/raw images on these four boards. This reduces bloat from around 800 bytes to around 200. There are no in-tree boards with SPL_LOAD_IMX_CONTAINER and AHAB_BOOT both enabled, so we do not need to worry about potentially falling back to legacy images in a secure boot scenario. Future work could include merging imx_container.h with imx8image.h, since they appear to define mostly the same structures. Signed-off-by: Sean Anderson <seanga2@gmail.com>

2023-10-16imx: spl_imx_romapi: avoid tricky use of spl_load_simple_fit() to get full ↵Rasmus Villemoes
FIT size Currently, spl_imx_romapi uses a somewhat tricky workaround for the fact that a FIT image with external data doesn't directly allow one to know the full size of the file: It does a dummy spl_load_simple_fit(), having the ->read callback remember the largest offset requested, and then does a last call to rom_api_download_image() to fetch the remaining part of the full FIT image. We can avoid that by just keeping track of how much we have downloaded already, and if the ->read() requests something outside the current valid buffer, fetch up to the end of the current request. The current method also suffers from not working when CONFIG_IMX_HAB is enabled: While in that case u-boot.itb is not built with external data, so the fdt header does contain the full size of the dtb structure. However, it does not account for the extra CONFIG_CSF_SIZE added by board_spl_fit_size_align(). And also, the data it hands out during the first dummy spl_load_simple_fit() is of course garbage, and wouldn't pass the verification. So we really need to call spl_load_simple_fit() only once, let that figure out just how big the FIT image is (including whatever data, CSF or "ordinary" external data, has been tacked on beyond the fdt structure), and always provide valid data from the ->read callback. This only affects the CONFIG_SPL_LOAD_FIT case - I don't have any hardware or experience with the CONFIG_SPL_LOAD_IMX_CONTAINER case, so I leave that alone for now. 2022-04-12ARM: imx: romapi: Repair FlexSPI NOR boot offsetMarek Vasut
The FlexSPI NOR boot offset does not require any special handling, the image_offset is correct in either case (0x1000 for FlexSPI NOR and 0x8000 for SD/eMMC) and the offset of u-boot.itb from the start of flash.bin is always 0x58000 on MX8MN/MX8MP, which matches the CONFIG_SYS_MMCSD_RAW_MODE_U_BOOT_SECTOR * 512 - 0x8000 in case CONFIG_SYS_MMCSD_RAW_MODE_U_BOOT_SECTOR=0x300, which is always the case on MX8MN/MX8MP. The CONFIG_SYS_MMCSD_RAW_MODE_U_BOOT_SECTOR is really overloaded in case of the MX8MN/MX8MP, but fixing that needs additional plumbing. 2021-05-24ARM: make gd a function call for LTO and set via set_gd()Marek Behún
On ARM, the gd pointer is stored in registers r9 / x18. For this the -ffixed-r9 / -ffixed-x18 flag is used when compiling, but using global register variables causes errors when building with LTO, and these errors are very difficult to overcome. Richard Biener says [1]: Note that global register vars shouldn't be used with LTO and if they are restricted to just a few compilation units the recommended fix is to build those CUs without -flto. We cannot do this for U-Boot since all CUs use -ffixed-reg flag. It seems that with LTO we could in fact store the gd pointer differently and gain performance or size benefit by allowing the compiler to use r9 / x18. But this would need more work. So for now, when building with LTO, go the clang way, and instead of declaring gd a global register variable, we make it a function call via macro.
