2024-12-17nand: Add a watch commandMichael Trimarchi
This is a debug command to monitor the retention state of the data on the array. The command needs a duplication of the mtd_read_oob() function to actually return the maximum number of bitflips encountered while reading the page. We could write a specific implementation for the Sunxi driver but this is probably enough. nand watch <off> <size> - check an area for bitflips nand watch.part <part> - check a partition for bitflips nand watch.chip - check the whole device for bitflips The output may be a bit verbose and could look like: => nand watch.chip device 0 whole chip size adjusted to 0xff60000 (5 bad blocks) NAND watch for bitflips in area 0x0-0xff60000: Page 0 (0x00000000) -> error -74 Page 1 (0x00000800) -> error -74 Page 2 (0x00001000) -> error -74 Page 3 (0x00001800) -> error -74 Page 4 (0x00002000) -> error -74 Page 5 (0x00002800) -> error -74 Page 6 (0x00003000) -> error -74 Page 7 (0x00003800) -> error -74 Page 8 (0x00004000) -> error -74 Page 9 (0x00004800) -> error -74 Page 10 (0x00005000) -> error -74 Page 11 (0x00005800) -> error -74 Page 12 (0x00006000) -> error -74 Page 13 (0x00006800) -> error -74 Page 14 (0x00007000) -> error -74 Page 15 (0x00007800) -> error -74 Page 16 (0x00008000) -> error -74 Page 17 (0x00008800) -> error -74 Page 18 (0x00009000) -> error -74 Page 19 (0x00009800) -> error -74 Page 20 (0x0000a000) -> error -74 Page 21 (0x0000a800) -> error -74 Page 22 (0x0000b000) -> error -74 Page 23 (0x0000b800) -> error -74 Page 1110 (0x0022b000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 1122 (0x00231000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 1132 (0x00236000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 1362 (0x002a9000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 4990 (0x009bf000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 5728 (0x00b30000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 7116 (0x00de6000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 7160 (0x00dfc000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 7494 (0x00ea3000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 10842 (0x0152d000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 11614 (0x016af000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 11970 (0x01761000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 12536 (0x0187c000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 12687 (0x018c7800) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 14298 (0x01bed000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 18268 (0x023ae000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 18760 (0x024a4000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 21440 (0x029e0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 22336 (0x02ba0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 22592 (0x02c20000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 23872 (0x02ea0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 27584 (0x035e0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 35008 (0x04460000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 37184 (0x048a0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 41728 (0x05180000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 42176 (0x05260000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 43200 (0x05460000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 43328 (0x054a0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 45376 (0x058a0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 47040 (0x05be0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 47552 (0x05ce0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 49344 (0x06060000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 49856 (0x06160000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 62784 (0x07aa0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 65153 (0x07f40800) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 65228 (0x07f66000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 65382 (0x07fb3000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 98624 (0x0c0a0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 101952 (0x0c720000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 107584 (0x0d220000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 118208 (0x0e6e0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 126656 (0x0f760000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 127680 (0x0f960000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Page 129920 (0x0fdc0000) -> up to 1 bf/chunk Maximum number of bitflips: 1 Pages with bitflips: 44/130752 It is also possible to reduce the output with the .quiet suffix in order to just show the summary. => nand watch.chip device 0 whole chip size adjusted to 0xff60000 (5 bad blocks) NAND watch for bitflips in area 0x0-0xff60000: Maximum number of bitflips: 1 Pages with bitflips: 44/130752 Signed-off-by: Miquel Raynal <miquel.raynal@bootlin.com> Signed-off-by: Michael Trimarchi <michael@amarulasolutions.com>

2021-10-23mtd: Remove mtd_erase_callback() entirelyMarek Behún
The original purpose of mtd_erase_callback() in Linux at the time it was imported to U-Boot, was to inform the caller that erasing is done (since it was an asynchronous operation). All supplied callback methods in U-Boot do nothing, but the mtd_erase_callback() function was (until previous patch) grossly abused in U-Boot's mtdpart implementation for completely different purpose. Since we got rid of the abusement, remove the mtd_erase_callback() function and the .callback member from struct erase_info entirely, in order to avoid such problems in the future. 2021-06-24mtd: compare also with OF path and device name in get_mtd_device_nm()Marek Behún
The get_mtd_device_nm() function (code imported from Linux) simply iterates all registered MTD devices and compares the given name with all MTDs' names. With SPI_FLASH_MTD enabled U-Boot registers a SPI-NOR as a MTD device with name identical to the SPI flash chip name (from SPI ID table). Thus for a board with multiple same SPI-NORs it registers multiple MTDs, but all with the same name (such as "s25fl164k"). We do not want to change this behaviour, since such a change could break existing boot scripts, which can rely on a hardcoded name. In order to allow somehow to uniqely select a MTD device, change get_mtd_device_nm() function as such: - if first character of name is '/', try interpreting it as OF path - otherwise compare the name with MTDs name and MTDs device name. In the following example a board has two "s25fl164k" SPI-NORs. They both have name "s25fl164k", thus cannot be uniquely selected via this name. With this change, the user can select the second SPI-NOR either with "spi-nor@1" or "/soc/spi@10600/spi-nor@1". Example: => mtd list List of MTD devices: * s25fl164k - device: spi-nor@0 - parent: spi@10600 - driver: jedec_spi_nor - path: /soc/spi@10600/spi-nor@0 - type: NOR flash - block size: 0x1000 bytes - min I/O: 0x1 bytes - 0x000000000000-0x000000800000 : "s25fl164k" * s25fl164k - device: spi-nor@1 - parent: spi@10600 - driver: jedec_spi_nor - path: /soc/spi@10600/spi-nor@1 - type: NOR flash - block size: 0x1000 bytes - min I/O: 0x1 bytes - 0x000000000000-0x000000800000 : "s25fl164k" Signed-off-by: Marek Behún <marek.behun@nic.cz> Reviewed-by: Miquel Raynal <miquel.raynal@bootlin.com> Tested-by: Patrice Chotard <patrice.chotard@foss.st.com> Reviewed-by: Jagan Teki <jagan@amarulasolutions.com> Cc: Priyanka Jain <priyanka.jain@nxp.com> Cc: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org> Cc: Heiko Schocher <hs@denx.de> Cc: Patrick Delaunay <patrick.delaunay@st.com>

2019-04-12mtd: fix Coverity integer handling issueMiquel Raynal
A Coverity robot reported an integer handling issue (OVERFLOW_BEFORE_WIDEN) in the potentially overflowing expression: (mtd_div_by_ws(mtd->size, mtd) - mtd_div_by_ws(offs, mtd)) * mtd_oobavail(mtd, ops) While such overflow will certainly never happen due to the numbers handled, it is cleaner to fix this operation anyway. The problem is that all the maths include 32-bit quantities, while the result is stored in an explicit 64-bit value. As maxooblen will just be compared with a size_t, let's change the type of the variable to a size_t. This will not fix anything but will clarify a bit the situation. Then, do an explicit cast to fix Coverity warning. Addresses-Coverity-ID: 184180 ("Integer handling issues") Signed-off-by: Miquel Raynal <miquel.raynal@bootlin.com>

Some MTD sublayers/drivers are implementing ->_read/write() and not ->_read/write_oob(). While for NAND devices both are usually valid, for NOR devices, using the _oob variant has no real meaning. But, as the MTD layer is supposed to hide as much as possible the flash complexity to the user, there is no reason to error out while it is just a matter of rewritting things internally. Add a fallback on mtd->_read() (resp. mtd->_write()) when the user calls mtd_read_oob() (resp. mtd_write_oob()) while mtd->_read_oob() (resp. mtd->_write_oob) is not implemented. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag and have introduced one. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <trini@konsulko.com>

2013-10-09mtd: driver _read() returns max_bitflips; mtd_read() returns -EUCLEANPaul Burton
Linux modified the MTD driver interface in commit edbc4540 (with the same name as this commit). The effect is that calls to mtd_read will not return -EUCLEAN if the number of ECC-corrected bit errors is below a certain threshold, which defaults to the strength of the ECC. This allows -EUCLEAN to stop indicating "some bits were corrected" and begin indicating "a large number of bits were corrected, the data held in this region of flash may be lost soon". UBI makes use of this and when -EUCLEAN is returned from mtd_read it will move data to another block of flash. Without adopting this interface change UBI on U-boot attempts to move data between blocks every time a single bit is corrected using the ECC, which is a very common occurance on some devices. For some devices where bit errors are common enough, UBI can get stuck constantly moving data around because each block it attempts to use has a single bit error. This condition is hit when wear_leveling_worker attempts to move data from one PEB to another in response to an -EUCLEAN/UBI_IO_BITFLIPS error. When this happens ubi_eba_copy_leb is called to perform the data copy, and after the data is written it is read back to check its validity. If that read returns UBI_IO_BITFLIPS (in response to an MTD -EUCLEAN) then ubi_eba_copy_leb returns 1 to wear_leveling worker, which then proceeds to schedule the destination PEB for erasure. This leads to erase_worker running on the PEB, and following a successful erase wear_leveling_worker is called which begins this whole cycle all over again. The end result is that (without UBI debug output enabled) the boot appears to simply hang whilst in reality U-boot busily works away at destroying a block of the NAND flash. I have tested that it works on a board which is currently out of tree, but which I hope to be able to begin upstreaming soon. 2013-05-31mtd: resync with Linux-3.7.1Sergey Lapin
This patch is essentially an update of u-boot MTD subsystem to the state of Linux-3.7.1 with exclusion of some bits: - the update is concentrated on NAND, no onenand or CFI/NOR/SPI flashes interfaces are updated EXCEPT for API changes. - new large NAND chips support is there, though some updates have got in Linux-3.8.-rc1, (which will follow on top of this patch). To produce this update I used tag v3.7.1 of linux-stable repository. The update was made using application of relevant patches, with changes relevant to U-Boot-only stuff sticked together to keep bisectability. Then all changes were grouped together to this patch. 2010-10-11Followup fixes on the mtdparts spread patchsetScott Wood
Consolidate some code in mtd_get_len_incl_bad(), and fix a condition where a valid partition could be reported as truncated if it has a good block at the end of the device (unlikely, since the BBT is usually there). Fix mid-block declarations in net_part_size(). Signed-off-by: Scott Wood <scottwood@freescale.com> Reviewed-by: Ben Gardiner <bengardiner@nanometrics.ca>
2010-10-11mtd: add an mtd method for get_len_incl_bad()Ben Gardiner
The logic to 'spread' mtd partitions needs to calculate the length in the mtd device, including bad blocks. This patch introduces a new function, mtd_get_len_incl_bad that can return both the length including bad blocks and whether that length was truncated on the device. This new function will be used by the mtdparts spread command later in this series. The definition of the function is #ifdef'd out in configurations that do not use the new 'mtdparts spread' command.
